LOL....I'm saying to myself...Look at him waiting for that solo...rhe anticipation....lol And then we get the double priceless look when the second lead comes in..... just awesome ... great reaction!
They are usually pretty, modest, polite and diligent Japanese girls. Band-maid and babymetal are also like that. Japanese ROCK girls are very mysterious.
Lovebites brilliant great reaction , The base player and drummer are the founding members they were in the same band Destrose which disbanded . There influences are in retro metal such as Iron Maiden , Judas Priest , Hallowell and Dragon force whom they have toured with . I heard in an interview they describe their skilss as the drummer having played from a very young age , the base player wants to play like iron maidens base player, the guitarist was learning classical piano but discoverdcguitar in her early teens but still plays piano on stage sometimes both at the same time and the other guitarist is a mad shredder the vocalists comes from an R&B background and this is her first experience with heavy metal. Some more titles When Destinies Align, the crusade, Rising, there are a couple of live vids lovebites summer sonic . Lovebites, live at Wacken 2018 are the best sound and picture quality as these are not crowd shot.
This was great. The drums are the star of this show for me. They drive this forward relentlessly and produce the illusion of speed for the rest of the band. During a good bit of the song, the instrumentalists are just passengers in the drummer's race car. At its essence, during those sections of the song, they're playing a progression of whole note chords. The wonderful twin solos stand out all the more because of the simplicity of the rest of the song. Those solos are going to represent a ridiculous amount of shared rehearsal to fully synch for live performances. Much respect. The music of Japan is a new world for me and there are bands who are just KILLING it over there.
@@ChrisPage68 I understand where you're coming from, was only describing a section of the song. :-) My mind envisioned speeding down a highway with a powered model plane in hand. Once launched forward, the plane (the twin guitar leads) soar upwards with the energy of both the plane's engine and the speed of the car (rhythm section). Really interesting stuff.
4:30 - Haruna Yosai (the incredible drummer) is like Steve Rogers--she can do this all day. Lovebites' sets are usually 2+ hours long and they barely have anything in their setlist that can be considered a "slow song", at least in terms of giving Haruna any kind of real break. She's amazing!
🙂 I just clicked on the Notification for your Reaction to Judgement day, so I decided to take a look back at your Lovebites history. Cripes, you started a little earlier than I did! No spoilers, but you are gonna LOVE the sound of what I'm starting to call Lovebites². FAMI!!!
@Tim Gove already provided "the novel" as he called it, so just a little historical background. Miho (bass) and Haruna (drums) were part of the legendary heavy metal band Destrose, whose alumni have founded at least 6 or 7 all-girl metal bands over the years (you'll get requests for all of them at some point!) They wanted something more challenging than straight metal, so they founded Lovebites and recruited the two guitarists and then the vocalist. To answer one of your surmises: Yes, all of the girls are classically trained, as are most of the members of Band-maid and many other top groups. Formal music education is a requirement in Japanese elementary and secondary schools, and many Japanese take further training at the college level. Haruna is 4'9" tall, uses heavy gauge drumsticks, and has been called a "pocket nuke". You'll notice that, like Akane of Band-Maid, she smiles a lot as she plays. Miho is sometimes underrated because she's understated compared with the flash of the guitarists, but she's the soul of the band. I think a strong back line is the key to a really enduringly great band, and they've got that in spades. And then, the guitarists! Midori played mostly in straight-ahead metal bands before joining Lovebites; she usually has a clean, bell-like tone, and is a consummate shredder. Miyako's previous bands were death-metal bands; she also has a strong jazz and funk background (she also does most of the composing, and a lot of the keyboard work on their albums). Her tone is dirtier and more distorted, and she uses more pinch harmonics and tapping than Midori. The result, when they duel or harmonize, is an amazingly rich sound. Oh, I could go on....Thank you for doing this!
Yes, both guitarists are formerly educated. Miyako with Dean Guitar was educated as a concert pianist from young age and took up guitar in high school. She composes most of their songs. Midori (with the White ESP guitar) studied at a music school on the guitar. Both are top tier musicians as you can see.
Asami the vocalist was a R&B singer before this. The bands name comes the song of the same name by Halestorm. Asami and Lzzy of Halestorm performed live together on stage while touring together. Miho the bassist and Haruna the drummer have been together since their days in Destrose. Destrose has several spin off groups including this one. Fate Gear, Mary's Blood and Mardeles. All of which are very good as well. The drums are a signature of Haruna's with the star cymbals. She has had them ever since her days in Destrose. Miya the guitarist without the highlights in her hair. plays keyboard and sings backup vocals. She is so good that she looks almost bored while playing. She has also given guitar lessons, hint, hint. Miya and Midori were showcased at a couple guitar maker booths at NAMM in L.A earlier this year. Lovebites has won at least award and placed very high on heavy metal ratings lists. Lovebites has toured at several venues inside and outside Japan. Mostly in Europe. They have yet to tour the USA, but I think their time has come. They work very hard at their craft.
@@ChaseCarneson If you want to check out something live from them there are a few videos of them form "Bloodstock 2018" outdoor festival. For comparison of the same song here is one link. th-cam.com/video/xYdJHaqy_JM/w-d-xo.html
It’s actually specifically Haruna’s trademark, used in both bands. They stand out in silhouette distinctively, and she has her own personal merch, crafts sales, T-shirts featuring the stars, to be sold with online seminars and such. Branding baby, it’s a business, work every day. You don’t play Wacken after just a year without being prepped, they are a targeted machine, and the target is Birmingham. Only one of them drinks alcohol apart from holidays, gotta keep your fighting weight! (It’s 5oclock somewhere, kanpai!🍻)
Well, studio version have an impecable mix and engineering, because it was mixed by Mikko Karmila and mastered by Mika Jussila in a finish studio. The same people who work with Stratovarius, Nightwish, Sonata Artica and a lot more groups, so the work it´s really very good. Lovebytes in live are also really good but of course the differences are mostly on the technical side. It´s difficult to mix a live performance like those people do in a studio And yes, they tour sometimes with Dragonforce. There´s even an hilarious part in one of their concerts when they go on the stage and after present all the members, appears Herman Lee in a white dress as "the lost member of Lovebites". Yes, Herman Lee is a boy but like he says "they are occidental people, can´t tell the difference" The punk reference reminds me a really, really good also from Japan, also all female and possibly the oldest still active in the country: Shonen Knife. A punk-rock band from Osaka founded in 1981 and still active. They have play all around the world in small venues (but really prestigious ones) like the famous Bataclan in France. The singer is now about 59 years and still rocking on stage. They do really fun music. Simple but fun. Must try someday Here an example th-cam.com/video/ifsOob7KPcY/w-d-xo.html Curt Kobain loves them 🤘 Oh, and someday you must see some playing Mikio Fujioka. He was a guitar player in the "Kami Band" (Babymetal). Sadly he died 2018 but he was a true master of guitar (teacher for profesional players and author of many book of music theory). He play a lot using the tremolo arm. Just see here th-cam.com/video/IW7u9luvW3M/w-d-xo.html This is a promotion video of EPS where Mikio play some pieces, really nice
About former musical education, you're right: Miyako (the Dean guitarplayer who's sweeping) has been trained to classical piano since early childhood (and still play wonderfully, sometimes on stage - I even saw her playing the guitar with one hand and the piano with the other). Influenced by Rachmaninov and Chopin, as well as Gary Moore and many others. She's Lovebites main composer.
Lovebites are my second favorite band after Band-Maid. diff genre but i love many styles of music. I subbed and look forward to future reactions, especially Band-Maid and Lovebites :) so much incredible talent in Japan, especially the ladies, they are gonna save Rock n Roll.
Your face when the solos started was priceless. Was kind of expecting it to blow you away, it happened to me the first time I heard them. I own all of their 3 albums, and they are one of the best metal bands in the world, period. I suggest you react to their new song "When Destinies Align", from their new album " Electric Pentagram". Thank me later. Got yourself a new subscriber. Great stuff.
@@ChaseCarneson I suggest watching 4K music video about "When destinies align" (and put the lyrics on). Most live recordings are pretty bad quality. Another great song after that is "Crusade" and in their music video it shows a lot of live action. Best Live performance quality is probably from Wacken 2018 concert. You can just start from first song. they all rock :D
I have been following Japanese music for some time now, but just recently learned that there are hundreds of thousands of Japanese children that start their formal music career around age five, Japan seems to be full of technically, proficient instrumentalist of a wide variety, very mind blowing,,,
You absolutely want to see their official Tokyo 2020 live gig video of "Holy war"... it's just balls to the walls amazing stuff :) And enable the lyrics... they're just pure heavy metal!
Miyako the guitarist that plays the Dean guitar has been formally trained with the piano but self taught with guitar. She is also gives online music lessons in Japan
Earlier this year, 3 or 4 weeks apart, LOVEBITES streamed two different 90 minute concert recordings on their youtube channel. They absolutely kill it live! I only wish I'd known there was so much great rock and metal coming out of Japan sooner (I started this journey myself just this Jan when a BAND-MAID video popped up in my recommends...best thing youtube ever did for me!).
One of my favorites! Both their first and third albums are great in my opinion. The singers style took some time to get used to for me, I think the throatiness might be a result of her singing in English? Wild speculation. As for live stuff it's a bit hard to find since they haven't released any official live videos on TH-cam as far as I know. Their live DVD pops up every now and then but is usually (and rightly so) taken down again. When Destinies Align is another great track, from their third album (this is from the first), but there's only a normal video for that one. If you're interested in another great Japanese band in the same genre (there's loads of them) Unlucky Morpheus is great. I think you would appreciate the composition of the song(s) Cadaver/Revadac.
Nice insights at a 'just right' depth. I really can't get enough of these ladies. Japanese, all female, Iron Maiden kinda. It's just scorcher after scorcher with them. Please see "When destinies align", "Breaking the wall", " Rising" or " The crusade".
This band is going to be big! Such talented musicians. Haruna on the drums is a beast and then there's Miyako and Midori on guitars....just wow! And yeah, they're great live too! :)
Love these ladies, great review, glad you enjoyed. Bassist Miho called her former drummer Haruna and said “we need to recreate classic thrash and powermetal, fully respecting European originators and all in English”. Done. Haruna is a 4’9” powerhouse. Miyako on the Dean is a classical pianist who likes electro-death metal and Gary Moore, she’s also become their main songwriter, passing Miho’s thrash and studio 6th member keyboardist Mao’s symphonic prog. Midori on the ESP is outrageously technically good, 8 finger tapping, clean speed for days, string skipping, super high whammies harmonics... they both sweep but Miyako’s 3strings, tho the arpeggios made your jaw drop, are still mortal, Midori’s full guitar stuff is not. And then there’s the song where the harmonized lead they both play with overhanded tapping. Show offs. Oh, they started guitar at ages 18 & 20, so Miyako had only 8-9 years experience when she recorded this (I don’t know Midori’s age.) Singer Asami was a pro chorus girl in rock bands, and likes R&B & Soul (Mariah Carey?), but was always told her power should front a rock band. Careful, some of my fav dvd tracks have been taken down, tho probably pausing during review like you do will do the trick. Song “Epilogue” live is still up, power ballad, was hoping for Empty Daydream or End of the World tho. And the thrash songs (Hammer of Wrath, Break the Wall) are either down or poor recordings. So instead, this is another blaster w dual guitars, their bread n butter, “We the United” live, often their set closer. th-cam.com/video/bGZHpxRNJj8/w-d-xo.html As you check their live stuff, keep in mind they’ve only been playing live 2.5yrs, whilst putting out over 40 songs, their shows have definitely gotten better. There are at least two full sets (5 songs each?) that are pro shot; Wacken 2018 and Summer Sonic 2019, simple “lovebites live” TH-cam search found em, each about 30mins
Guitar World interviewed both Lovebites’ guitarists this winter ... www.guitarworld.com/features/lovebites-its-easier-to-develop-lead-guitar-techniques-if-you-have-a-good-sense-of-rhythm
It's Helloween’s 1987 album Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part I and its 1988 sequel, …Part II that can be said to have kick started the power metal genre, including machine gun style drumming; however power metal can be traced back to the 1st few Rainbow albums where Richie Blackmore welded the influence of Middle European classical composers Beethoven and Bach to the amplified power of hard rock.
Haruna, the drummer in Lovebites, is one of the many Japanese female metal artists that started out in Destrose ("the incubator of Japanese female metal"). A live video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qvu
Revisiting after all this time, happy monetising Chase! When this was originally released, the ad free version wasn't available, they reposted the uninterrupted version a year or so ago on the Lovebites official channel. Still a banger, they play Shadowmaker at the newer concerts as a fan favourite.
I really enjoyed your reaction. I dig this band. There is another Japanese band that, overall, I don't enjoy as much as Lovebites or Band-Maid, but the band possesses a young lady who is widely considered to be the best metal shred guitarist in Japan and near the top worldwide. Her name is Saki and she plays with a band called Mary's Blood. A good piece that shows some of her talent is "Marionette." It can be found here: th-cam.com/video/MLM2unV0kwU/w-d-xo.html
You're insight into a song after just one listen is crazy, you have a great ear! Would love to see your reaction to Architects, maybe Royal Beggars or A Match Made in Heaven!
Well done! Discovered this group only today. They are so good. Some simpleness, compare to Jinger, Unleash the archers, or Nightwish, but for japan powermetal bant they are GREAT!
Just for a little perspective: all of the above are bands exist more than ten years at this date. Nightwish over twenty. They had a lot of time to develop their songwriting. Lovebites existed one year when they recorded this song.
I've recently binged all of your reaction vids (thanks to Band-Maid "Thrill"). I was hoping you'd get to Lovebites, too, and this one didn't disappoint. I appreciate the fact that you don't mug for the camera. Your reactions are genuine, and your technical insights are so much more interesting than the stereotypical over-the-top "OMG I can't believe it" reactions that so many others do. Subscribed. A suggestion: "CADAVER/REVADAC" by Unlucky Morpheus. th-cam.com/video/_yrNRhIreyE/w-d-xo.html The two songs are actually mirror images of each other, composition-wise, with the beats, notes, and vocal melodies of REVADAC being performed in "reverse" order. It's quite amazing.
good reaction brother, they are the first female (Japanese) band to appear on Wacken and Bloodstock, you can check the video on TH-cam. Also won the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2018 and toured with Dragonforce last year in the UK, not many Japanese bands can be like this if they were really good. IMHO
Definietly need more lovebites.. I like them, they're just awesome...break the wall, the crusade, when destiny's align, rising are also good songs.. Their new album electric pentagram is their best album(at least for me).. Love 'em.. Nice reaction btw..

Sooooo glad you reacted to this one! This was the first song I heard from Lovebites and it just blew me away. I looked them up and watched all their other promo videos then instantly ordered all their albums and the most recent of their EPs (and now their new single, which features new tracks). They're my favourite new band discovery in the last 15, maybe 20 years. I would strongly recommend their official video for the song Rising if you want to try more. As for Dragonforce... Lovebites supported them in the UK last year. Wish I'd known about them then... Anyway. Live. Maybe try Wacken 2018, it probably has a better sound mix than most live videos currently available. I'd recommend The Crusade, which starts here: th-cam.com/video/MXQ0PjOKmHw/w-d-xo.html or you can just go from the start of the concert with The Hammer of Wrath th-cam.com/video/MXQ0PjOKmHw/w-d-xo.html. Shadowmaker is here: th-cam.com/video/MXQ0PjOKmHw/w-d-xo.html
i know you will find this hard if not impossible to believe but they are even better live! the fan cam videos don't do them justice most of the time because the sound leaves something to be desired but the live concert called 'the daughters of the dawn' i believe is still on youtube. -they keep taking it down and then it keeps coming back.and the 'battle in the east ' concert is another one of the same. there are NO holes in this band. best power metal band on the planet. the drummer is an absolute beast along with all the other players especially the 2 guitarists.you need to do more lovebites and you will be lovebitten. i would give you a link for one of their lives but they keep getting copyrighted so the latest mv is the way to go.so you may want this-one of their best:th-cam.com/video/hLFelI93VkM/w-d-xo.html
I love to see your reaction while the melody in...😂😂. If we've seen them outside...maybe we thought they're model. But if we've seen them in the stage... They're Monsters.... ❤️❤️ Lovebites..👍👍
If you enjoyed this you should check out Oiran by Nemophila. They’re a Japanese metal band formed by top female musicians who all have experience in other bands (some of them are currently in other bands). The video is filmed in a studio and you can clearly see what everyone playing. The song is kickass too, the vocalist and drummer are especially good.
I believe this is true of Miyako (the guitarist on the far left in this video). She was classically trained since age 3 with piano and specialized in the works of Rachmaninoff. Incredibly, she didn't pick up the guitar until age 18 when she was in college, and she taught herself from a guitar-instruction book series! Shortly after college she joined the bands: A Drop of Joker (2013) and 21g (2014)--neither of which gave her much challenge or opportunity to shine (imo). She was the last member to officially join the band (2017) and I think it was Miho (Lovebites' founder, leader and bassist) who wanted Miyako in the band to balance out Midori's (guitarist on the far right in this video) more aggressive style. Prior to joining Lovebites in 2016, Midori was already a contracted session guitarist who had earned a reputation for her incredibly fast soloing skills. So I think in Midori's case, she was already well versed in power-metal but just wanted to put down her roots in a good, creative band like Lovebites. Either way, Midori and Miyako are truly great combo.
@@ChaseCarneson They're my favorite band! They just keep getting better. Lovebites is 3 years old. Influence is Iron Maiden . They did 8 shows warming up for Dragon force last year in England. Name is from Halestorms Love bites and so do I!
When the main riff started and your face just went like (⊙_⊙) I just laughed out loud... it was so perfect :D They just come at you like a freight train!
I see influences on this from the bands "X Japan" and "Show-Ya", both bands formed in 1981. I'll list an example of each band. Here is X Japan - The song Kerenai (live-farewell tour 1997) th-cam.com/video/4-zXzhfP2YM/w-d-xo.html Here is Show-Ya (Shoya) - The song - lovers (live guessing 1989) th-cam.com/video/OeIHVk3ivlE/w-d-xo.html
I've always been impressed by their skills since the first time I've seen them. Yet, for some reason, while I don't dislike their music, I'm not es enthusiastic about it as I should by all rights be and I don't know why. I still highly enjoyed your insights about their playing :)
Don't feel bad; I have the exact same take. They're clearly very good musicians, but their songwriting just doesn't click with me. I also must confess, I don't particular care for the singer's vocal style. She has power, but she seems to stay in the same dynamic range all the time. It might be because all their lyrics are in English and it makes it harder for her to connect her performance to the content of what she's singing...? I'm not sure, there's just a little something missing for me in it.
I think it's completely okay to have appreciate and respect but not fall in love with the songs themselves. We all have different tastes and that's a great thing.
@@Doug_Hannon yup, me too. Technically very impressive stuff but the composition (and I guess overall style) doesn't just do it for me... But I guess you can never please everyone :)
hey chase!.loving your reactions.another great lovebites track to listen to is "the crusade"i would also recommend another great all-female band aldious."we are" is a popular video.lastly try a band called mardelas.the singer marina was previously in another band with the bassist/drummer from lovebites!
You will probably never see another drummer with star cymbals; those are Haruna's trademark. She's been sporting them since she started in bands. I laugh when ppl see the stars in a Destrose video and say look! Another drummer has them! Nope. That is a very young Haruna.
Awesome! I´m standing up and applauding. I have listened to japanese metal since 2010 when i heared Aldious with vocalist RAMI for the first time. Then i discovered FUKI and all of her bands and projects and from there i became hooked on japanese bands and different styles and blends of music genres. But i had never listened to Lovebites until today, even tho i have seen them mentioned before in other reaction videos. These musicians are all great, the guitarists did some crazy harmonies and that duel, omg. The scales were of the charts. But someone needs to talk about the Bass player. She is super good, and i love when the bass is played without a pick, it creates a better flow and altough superficial it looks awesome. Sorry for the long reply and not mentioning Chases excellent breakdown here but i am shocked!
@@ChaseCarneson I watched them now, thanks Chase. What a great band, and the bassist, i didnt notice it at first but she used to be in the band DESTROSE. Her way of almost dancing with the bass while she play is quite unique. I hope you get to watch and react to DESTROSE they have an awesome vocalist in Marina who now is the lead singer for Mardelas. Oh and the drummer was also in DESTROSE :)
Really liked your Nightwish reactions, so that's why I'd like to recommend some more stuff from Finland. :) Wintersun - Time (Live Rehearsals At Sonic Pump Studios) Amorphis - Amongst Stars OR The Bee Tuomas Holopainen - A Lifetime of Adventure (From Tuomas' solo project, love the entire album!) Insomnium - While we sleep BEAST IN BLACK - Blind And Frozen (They are so cheesy for a metal band it's awesome.) Turmion kätilöt - Sikiö
Chase Carneson, you are technically one of the best reacters, here in youtube. We are waiting for your professional expertise on the new 2020s live songs from Lovebites : "Thunder Vengeance" "Holy War" "Raise Some Hell" "Dancing with the Devil" "Swan Song" Let's go, there's work to be done ...please and thank you
I was drawn to the reactor realm by the charismatic voice, tank, vin and sori etc Thought I'd better not grow my catalogue too much but then I saw a collab by you and Julia Nilon and now that I'm finding Lovebites I have to admit that your expertise is way up there and you def know what you're talking about so...I dig it tons! :D Keep it up! Great reaction this one is. Plus, liking Nightwish never hurts espec as I'm a Finn and been following them right from the start in the 90s.
Amazing reaction / analysis as usual, thanks! I discovered them just a couple of days ago, I listened to "Holy War" and blew me away instantly. My favorites so far are "Golden Destination" and "When Destinies Align" but I have listened just a few songs. I want to go slow... not like what happened recently to me with another Japanese metal girl group... ;)
Love this band and the Japanese female metal scene is ridiculously good. If you want to see maybe the best of the Japanese female guitarist check out Mary’s Blood-Marionette Live from the Blitz. Funny the now defunct band Destrose led to Lovebites, Mary’s Blood and other metal bands.
There's an Japanese Alt-Idol group called BiSH (6 vocalists) who are billed as a punk band without instruments. They write a lot of their own songs, do their own choreography and stage dive. Even if you don't do a reaction, it may be worth checking them out to get a wider view of Japanese music (they've had No.1's on both Album and Singles charts). Here's a highlight reel (th-cam.com/video/InIeAjytVi0/w-d-xo.html), a live (th-cam.com/video/QdcvUZ4VtOQ/w-d-xo.html) and an MV ()th-cam.com/video/i90zUjc_J30/w-d-xo.html).
I'm surprised no one has suggested "When destinies align" to you. Studio or live, both are excellent. It's one to consider when you come back around to Lovebites.
If you are new to the Japanese rock/metal scene, you will be surprise to learn that there are actually quite a few excellent female musicians in Japan. Miyako is my favorite member in this band, I do enjoy lovebites's solo parts very much but I reckon their musical style is not as diverse as some other Japanese female bands do. I bought their albums but I rarely been able to listen to all the songs without skipping or fast forwarding.... the style is more or less the same. This is the reason as to why I enjoy Band Maid more personally because they often blend different genres of music styles into their songs. Rinne, rock in me, puzzle, blooming, bubble... all different styles. there are some serious female talents in Japan... shredding is not something unique to one or two bands... even young teens like Lisa X or ASTERISM's HAL-CA can outshine quite many male adult guitarists in my opinion.
love your reaction and your explaination on this song. I always amused to watch one's first experience on Lovebites songs XD So ready for next song? ;) "When Destinies Align" and "The Crusade" (this one is their tribute to Iron Maiden) Miho (bass) and Haruna (drums) were from disbanded band (Destrose) and as the rest of members start another metal band (Mary's Blood). You should try to listen Mary's Blood too; "Marionette" (th-cam.com/video/MLM2unV0kwU/w-d-xo.html)
Just stumbled upon this channel today and spent the last couple hours with your vids. Great work! Since you so far exclusively reviewed some of Lovebites' more speedy / thrashy numbers I think it would make sense at some of their melodic numbers with my personal favorites being: Empty Daydream th-cam.com/video/lXh_uMM94jU/w-d-xo.html A Frozen Serenade th-cam.com/video/HS6toqnK384/w-d-xo.html The former particularly shows off Miyako's diversity in not only providing stellar guitar work, but also her ability in playing the piano and singing backing vocals. I can promise you some serious goosebumps with this one! The latter is probably my favorite Lovebites-song due to its drop dead gorgeous guitar solos in the last third. Sadly they haven't played it live yet afaik so this vid features only the song by itself. Be sure to check those out.
Chase, I have included a link to a band I have not see you react to, yet. I looked through your videos list, but that's is, so if you have reviewed/reacted to them you have my apologies. With that said, I would like to introduce you to Wagaki Band, I think this is the first video I watched, but it's been a day or two. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/ponTbDDMYjw/w-d-xo.html This is another Japanese rock band, with a few metal elements. The unique thing about this band is they are a fusion of Contemporary and Traditional Japanese instrumentation. If you are not familiar: The Traditional instruments include: Daiko Drums, a Bamboo flute (forgot the actual name), the Koto (horizontal harp-like thing), and the Shamisen (3 string banjo looking thing) I am still learning the performers names but here's what I believe I know: contemporary: Drums: Wasabi; Lead guitar, Machia; Bass, Asa (looks like a girl, but IS a guy); Traditional: Koto, ?; Daiko drums, ?; Bamboo Flute, ?; Shamisen, Beni; and last but not least: Vocals: Suzhanna is lead vocals, Machia is 2nd vocals, Asa does some vocals but normally almost imperceptible, at least to me. Occasionally Machia will wear a mask used in the Japanese theater called "Noe" and when he does, you will see movement that is associated with that art. Now, for the most racist statement I have published to date: I believe they have ALL had some formal martial arts training, I assume this from movements and other videos I have watched. The link above is a pair of songs: the first is actually instrumental and titled, "Homura", the 2nd is "Akatsuki no ito", which is sung by both Suzhanna and Machia. I hope you enjoy this performance as much I have have and will continue to do.
LOL....I'm saying to myself...Look at him waiting for that solo...rhe anticipation....lol And then we get the double priceless look when the second lead comes in..... just awesome ... great reaction!
Hm. Looks like the new DVD material is being taken down, so the next best bet would be Wacken 2018 - th-cam.com/video/MXQ0PjOKmHw/w-d-xo.html
Honestly!!! I knew a solo was coming but I had no idea the scale of it. Was intense.
Actually just had them release the claim on this one so hopefully it stays that way.
@@ChaseCarneson Yeah, you may think you know what's coming. But, as you say, the scale...Their skill and artistry is just epic level.

They are usually pretty, modest, polite and diligent Japanese girls. Band-maid and babymetal are also like that.
Japanese ROCK girls are very mysterious.
Chase: 'I'm waiting for that solo to kick in.' Me: Be careful what you wish for!
Some very good points in this. Thanks for the support and comment.
There are NO passengers in Lovebites.
She's remarkable. Super impressed by her consistency and pace.

When Destinies Align is another great song by Lovebites. Alas, it's another Official Video but it will knock your socks off.
🙂 I just clicked on the Notification for your Reaction to Judgement day, so I decided to take a look back at your Lovebites history. Cripes, you started a little earlier than I did! No spoilers, but you are gonna LOVE the sound of what I'm starting to call Lovebites². FAMI!!!
Your first lovebites experience 😎
One word ,as Asami the singer say at all concert
"We re Lovebites ,and we play Heavy Metal"
Enjoy your ride
And she's damn right 🤘
These ladies are weaponized with pure musical Talent 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes, Miyako began classical piano lessons at the age of three.
And both begun at 17/18 years with guitars. Miyako (brunette) studied and learned the guitar with the Manual for Dummies!😂
another great reaction with a very talented band
"When Destiny's Align" (official video) is another video to check out, and "Rise" from 2019 is good too..... (Live)
Really??? R&B? That's cool. Thanks for that, super interesting.
@@ChaseCarneson If you want to check out something live from them there are a few videos of them form "Bloodstock 2018" outdoor festival. For comparison of the same song here is one link. th-cam.com/video/xYdJHaqy_JM/w-d-xo.html
Nice reaction. You are right l believe the guitarist have a classical background. So that's why they are so tight and great finger work.
Makes sense. Thanks for the support and comment.
Hey as a big fan of Lovebites i serch for reactions on them daily and wow your the finest reactor yet lol NOW more Lovebites !!! When Destinies Align!
That really means a lot. Thanks for the kind words and support!
The star cymbals are a carry over from the bassist's and drummer's previous band Destrose
It´s difficult to mix a live performance like those people do in a studio
And yes, they tour sometimes with Dragonforce. There´s even an hilarious part in one of their concerts when they go on the stage and after present all the members, appears Herman Lee in a white dress as "the lost member of Lovebites".
Yes, Herman Lee is a boy but like he says "they are occidental people, can´t tell the difference"
The punk reference reminds me a really, really good also from Japan, also all female and possibly the oldest still active in the country: Shonen Knife. A punk-rock band from Osaka founded in 1981 and still active. They have play all around the world in small venues (but really prestigious ones) like the famous Bataclan in France. The singer is now about 59 years and still rocking on stage. They do really fun music. Simple but fun. Must try someday
Here an example
th-cam.com/video/ifsOob7KPcY/w-d-xo.html
Curt Kobain loves them 🤘
Oh, and someday you must see some playing Mikio Fujioka. He was a guitar player in the "Kami Band" (Babymetal). Sadly he died 2018 but he was a true master of guitar (teacher for profesional players and author of many book of music theory). He play a lot using the tremolo arm. Just see here
th-cam.com/video/IW7u9luvW3M/w-d-xo.html
This is a promotion video of EPS where Mikio play some pieces, really nice
Thank you for that. Lots more coming soon, appreciate the support.
I barely listen to other than those too bands, since discovering them
Dude, you NEED to react to "When Destinies Align" by this band. It's insane.
Fun fact: Haruna (the drummer) is the smallest among them all and has a nick Pocket Nuclear Reactor from the way she's blasting the drums.
Nice one, Peter. Thanks for the recommendation. Yeah, I was blown away FOR SURE!!!!!
I have been following Japanese music for some time now, but just recently learned that there are hundreds of thousands of Japanese children that start their formal music career around age five, Japan seems to be full of technically, proficient instrumentalist of a wide variety, very mind blowing,,,
Best reaction I've seen on Lovebites on every aspect so far!
You absolutely want to see their official Tokyo 2020 live gig video of "Holy war"... it's just balls to the walls amazing stuff :)
And enable the lyrics... they're just pure heavy metal!
This is like the masterpiece theater of metal reaction videos 😂😂
I mean that in the best possible way
Miyako the guitarist that plays the Dean guitar has been formally trained with the piano but self taught with guitar.
Awww missed it. Well, I'm sure there will be more.
Simply put, these ladies are the real deal. They are even better live.
FACTS!!!
Thanks for the support!
So instead, this is another blaster w dual guitars, their bread n butter, “We the United” live, often their set closer. th-cam.com/video/bGZHpxRNJj8/w-d-xo.html
As you check their live stuff, keep in mind they’ve only been playing live 2.5yrs, whilst putting out over 40 songs, their shows have definitely gotten better. There are at least two full sets (5 songs each?) that are pro shot; Wacken 2018 and Summer Sonic 2019, simple “lovebites live” TH-cam search found em, each about 30mins
Thanks for the awesome insight and support. Really appreciate it.
Chase Carneson , good reviews, like the production/musician angles, keep it up. I might not have written a novel if I could sleep tho! Here n there...

Well done! Discovered this group only today. They are so good. Some simpleness, compare to Jinger, Unleash the archers, or Nightwish, but for japan powermetal bant they are GREAT!
Agreed, Their complexity comes in the form of lead work and not the technicality of complex songwriting and structure.
@@ChaseCarneson They have more complex songs too 😉
Just for a little perspective: all of the above are bands exist more than ten years at this date. Nightwish over twenty. They had a lot of time to develop their songwriting. Lovebites existed one year when they recorded this song.

I loved Lovebites before it was cool. I’m just glad they’re getting around now, because they are certainly amazing, and deserve the recognition.
From what I've heard, the guitarists wanted something more challenging to play. In comes powermetal!
Lovebites doesn't have a bad song Live I recommend anything from Daughers of the Dawn

Amazing group of ultra talented musicians....

The guitar gods say "You're not supposed to stop during a guitar solo". But I get it 😊
You will probably never see another drummer with star cymbals; those are Haruna's trademark.
So glad you enjoyed it. There are a few other Lovebites reactions up so take a look when you get a gap.

Her way of almost dancing with the bass while she play is quite unique. I hope you get to watch and react to DESTROSE they have an awesome vocalist in Marina who now is the lead singer for Mardelas. Oh and the drummer was also in DESTROSE :)
Did you just come back from work on here? 😆 Can't believe I've never seen this one before. Thanks youtube for recommending!
I may have 😂😂😂 but lookin cool! Glad to see you discovering my oldies.
Really liked your Nightwish reactions, so that's why I'd like to recommend some more stuff from Finland. :)
Wintersun - Time (Live Rehearsals At Sonic Pump Studios)
Amorphis - Amongst Stars OR The Bee
Tuomas Holopainen - A Lifetime of Adventure (From Tuomas' solo project, love the entire album!)
Insomnium - While we sleep
BEAST IN BLACK - Blind And Frozen (They are so cheesy for a metal band it's awesome.)
Turmion kätilöt - Sikiö
Chase Carneson, you are technically one of the best reacters, here in youtube.
We are waiting for your professional expertise on the new 2020s live songs from Lovebites :
"Thunder Vengeance"
"Holy War"
"Raise Some Hell"
"Dancing with the Devil"
"Swan Song"
Let's go, there's work to be done ...please and thank you
I was drawn to the reactor realm by the charismatic voice, tank, vin and sori etc Thought I'd better not grow my catalogue too much but then I saw a collab by you and Julia Nilon and now that I'm finding Lovebites I have to admit that your expertise is way up there and you def know what you're talking about so...I dig it tons! :D Keep it up! Great reaction this one is. Plus, liking Nightwish never hurts espec as I'm a Finn and been following them right from the start in the 90s.
That scream in the end .... ♪♫♪
their live version of this song is even better.
Amazing reaction / analysis as usual, thanks!
I discovered them just a couple of days ago, I listened to "Holy War" and blew me away instantly. My favorites so far are "Golden Destination" and "When Destinies Align" but I have listened just a few songs. I want to go slow... not like what happened recently to me with another Japanese metal girl group... ;)
Better live, awesome live, breath taking live, unbelievable
love lovebite! these ladies are soooo amazingly good...
You should react to "when destinies align"... Is simply overwhelming
The lead singer was a R&B ,and Soul singer before she joined the band.
Oh yeah? That's interesting
Great power metal! Reminds me of Edguy song "Babylon" live in Sao Paolo that I checked awhile ago on TH-cam. A bit of Tobias Sammet in her voice maybe
Thanks.Love it.
Thank you, Keith!
Hi, from Brasil. Best reaction so far!
Thanks.
Thank youuuu. Appreciate the support 🇧🇷
Those guitars are having a conversation 👌👌👌🤘🤘🤘 live are also great
Hey, here's your jaw, I picked it up on the floor, I think you dropped it when the duet solos kicked in!
😂👌
By Now, I'm sure you saw them live, it's even better.
I'm surprised no one has suggested "When destinies align" to you. Studio or live, both are excellent. It's one to consider when you come back around to Lovebites.
I know...I had the same expression when the guitar matched that high note too))))
Great demotivator music for those learning guitar. And seems like they are very good live from what I have seen on youtube.
Don't be pessimistic... ;-)
Hahaha practise makes perfect. I mean this is perfect...but still.
Lol...exactly what I heard from some guy. If a beginner watch them, he will throw the guitar through the window to the thrash can 😃
@@morganolsson1993 I saw that video too :D
Angra next for more power metal. Carry On, Heroes of Sand or even something from the latest album.
I always amused to watch one's first experience on Lovebites songs XD
So ready for next song? ;)
"When Destinies Align" and "The Crusade" (this one is their tribute to Iron Maiden)
Miho (bass) and Haruna (drums) were from disbanded band (Destrose) and as the rest of members start another metal band (Mary's Blood).
You should try to listen Mary's Blood too; "Marionette" (th-cam.com/video/MLM2unV0kwU/w-d-xo.html)
Appreciate the support recommendations.
Her English is better in the newer Live videos. I've been in awe ever since I first heard them.
Please never stop in the middle of a chorus !!! ^^ Awesome video anyway, thank you :-)
I'll try my best haha.
Hi, would really like to see your reaction to Blind Guardian - The Bard's Song & Valhalla - Live at Wacken Open Air 2016. Best regards
So glad you found the angry bridesmaids. More of that punk beat here: th-cam.com/video/0YGwUhg2XNk/w-d-xo.html
You should see the sweeps in Holy War, my god it's straight out of the heavens.
Just stumbled upon this channel today and spent the last couple hours with your vids. Great work!
Since you so far exclusively reviewed some of Lovebites' more speedy / thrashy numbers I think it would make sense at some of their melodic numbers with my personal favorites being:
Empty Daydream
th-cam.com/video/lXh_uMM94jU/w-d-xo.html
A Frozen Serenade
th-cam.com/video/HS6toqnK384/w-d-xo.html
The former particularly shows off Miyako's diversity in not only providing stellar guitar work, but also her ability in playing the piano and singing backing vocals.
Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/ponTbDDMYjw/w-d-xo.html
This is another Japanese rock band, with a few metal elements.
Can you do that?
Hold my beer and get my heels!
😂 I BELIEVE!!!!!
Arpeggio sweeps while tapping at the same time!!! Anybody wanna buy a guitar?
😂
