Yes, more Lovebites. This is the first metal band in probably 35 yrs that I listen to virtually everyday. Live is better than studio. Try 'Thunder Vengeance' or 'Holy War' from "Five of a
Kind" DVD. Any song from this Feb 2020 concert is excellent. All songs are in English.

Recommended songs: Holy War, Swan Song, Shadowmaker(from Five Of A Kind)
Old school thrash: Break The Wall, The Hammer Of Wrath, Thunder Vengeance

Like others have pointed out, all-female or mostly-female bands of various "rock" varieties are not a novelty in Japan, there have been hundreds of them over the years. Much of this , in the early days, was due to the Runaways touring Japan in the late 70's, which resulted in a sort of Beatlemania-type reaction. In their wake, many Japanese girls formed bands of their own, the first being "Girls", who were sort of a Japanese Runaways tribute band in a way, at least in their appearance and the fact that their first single was a cover of "Cherry Bomb" by the Runaways. Their other songs didn't sound like the Runaways, and they weren't really a great band or anything, but it was a starting point. Then punk happened in Japan just like it did in the West, and there were several all-female bands of the punk/new wave/post-punk/garage varieties. Shonen Knife are the most well known in the West, sort of a cute Ramones-inspired trio, but there were many others like the 5.6.7.8's, The Flamenco A-Go-Go, and Supersnazz. The first straight up all-female heavy metal band was Show-ya, whose guitar player Miki Igarashi aka "Sun-go" is considered the mother of female metal lead guitar players. They weren't always metal, but by the late 80s they pretty much were. Some of the bands who came along in the 90s/2000s were incredibly heavy and intense, as well as being technically gifted. Super Junky Monkey in particular caused a stir with their intricate genre mixing type of punk/metal/rap/funk/noise rock. They were often compared to Mr. Bungle and Rage Against The Machine. Bleach and Yellow Machinegun were both pretty brutal too. eX-Girl were wildy experimental and amazing. Late punk type bands were Gito Gito Hustler, Lolita No.18, lots more... there was (and still is) a record label called Benten founded by Audrey Kimura, that only features all-female bands on its label, and there are too many to list. I could go on and on naming great all-femal bands, but it would end up being a novel. Lovebites are the latest in what's described as a "boom", but it's not really a boom as it's been going on for almost 15 years ever since bands like Aldious and Destrose came along. In fact Lovebites and several other bands feature Destrose alumni. Most Japanese metal bands have a distinctly Japanese sound, but Lovebites are the exception as they make a point of playing 80s style European power metal and 80s style thrash, as well as singing exclusively in English, so they're quite unique among Japanese metal bands in that respect. Sorry for the long comment, I didn't plan it that way when my fingers started going.

A Couple of things about LoveBites.
    1. They sing in English. They only have one song (I think) that they sing in Japanese. But everything else is all in English.
    2. They are heavily influenced by NWOBHM, Power Metal, and Thrash; with the bands being Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Dio, etc.
    3. They focus on what you talked about before, which is breaking the stereotype that metal bands have to be hairy sweaty men, or dress like sleazy women. They want to prove that you can dress like beautiful women, love your Louis Vuitton purse, and still throw down as hard as Slayer. Case in point: They were all doing this, and do this live.. IN HEELS.
    4. Speaking of live, when they play live, they will ALWAYS wear white. They do that on purpose: the tallest person in the band is Midori or Miyako (one of the guitarists), and they are around 5' 4" at the most! So imagine if they were in jeans or black, at a show, which you could barely see them. They wear white so they can stand out and be seen.
    6. They were named best band y Metal Hammer. That's a big deal.
    7. They are signed to Nuclear Blast Records, and are the only band from Japan signed to a western world label. Oh, and that label is the same one that Nightwish and Sabaton are on.
And all of that is just for starters. These ladies are the real deal. Thunder Vengeance from the Five of a Kind show should be your next video, followed by Holy War, then Hammer of Wrath. You won't be disappointed.

Excellent reaction. I'm a huge fan of both Lovebites and Band Maid. One is power metal while the other is hard rock. But the songwriting abilities both exhibit are amazing. Band Maid never plays two verses exactly the same way. They change the phrasing to keep it more interesting. Fun fact: The drummers of the two bands are close friends. The list of all female Japanese metal/rock bands goes on and on, and you'll surely get many suggestions. But another one of my favorites is Aldious. They lean a little more to "thrash metal". Check them out if you get a chance. Loved the reaction! Subscribed and looking forward to more!

Yes, "Rinne (Reincarnation)" is arguably the heaviest song they've released. Though for the benefit of reactors, Band Maid is really a live band and their live clips are much better, generally speaking. But "Rinne" is one case where the music video is better. Asami is basically what would happen if Bruce Dickinson had hooked up with Lita Ford and produced a baby girl who likes cosplaying as Mariah Carey (with a better voice, obviously).
Midori (smiling guitarist) was a pharmacy student. She now dispenses face-melting riffs. Alongside Gary Moore-influenced Miyako, their harmonies bring to mind Glenn Tipton and KK Downing of Judas Priest in their heyday. Lastly, nailing the bottom end to the deck is Lovebites' boss-lady Miho - Iron Maiden's Steve Harris, but in a white dress. Do not challenge her to a beer-drinking contest. It will not end well for you! 😋

So much to say... but 1st of all, you were so right that there are tons of great Metal musicians, bands etc that we westerners didn't know about. My take is that western media and majors didn't even air them or distribute them outside of their country. Add to that a certain disdain for non-American or UK rock and metal bands, the exceptions always coming from white countries (Germany, Sweden, Norway etc), so we assume that Metal is just a white guys genre. It's not, and It never was.
IMHO Babymetal changed that narrative in 2014 when they played in the UK at the Sonisphere festival: they were totally unknown, unexpected, and the few who have heard of them mocked them as a joke. How could a japanese band, fronted by 3 teenage girls, ever be "Metal". But they killed it, and won a very hardcore, unforgiving British Metal audience (the "Iron Maiden fans" as described by Henri Rollins ;) - and the rest is history. Now western Metalheads are "discovering" all these asian bands who were just unavailable, and barely underrepresented on Internet until 2010-2012.
We can also blame their local management, who never believed that they could make it overseas. Thank Odin for the Internet!

Nice reaction guys first you just sow the winners of the 2018 year in category for best new metal band. Lovebites are formed in Tokyo from ex Destrose band members Miho the bassist and composer and Haruna the drummer in 2016. The other members are Asami the vocalist and songwriter, Midori the lead guitarist and backing vocals (the first solo, the smile lady) and Miyako the second lead guitarist and pianist and composer. Lovebites are influenced by 80s metal, Miho the bassist she wants some day to become that good like a Stive Harris the Iron Maiden bassist. Their last album Electric pentagram is nominated for one of the best 20 metal albums for 2020 year. Also they always playing on high heels. Can you tell me how many bands you know to play on the stage on high heels. I can recommend some songs from their last concert Five of kind in Zepp Diversity Tokyo from this year like Thunder vengeance, Holly war, Rise some hell, Dancing with the devil, Swan song, even Shadowmaker have to see live again, Edge of the world, Break the wall, Hammer of wrath, We the United. And not in the last place the song Epilogue from their previous concert Daughters of the down from 2019. And guys next time when they start touring again and come near to your home don't miss them just take the tickets and go. I know by my self I sow them twice in UK and Wacken Germany in 2018 and 2019 year. They are the best all female power metal band in the world at the moment. And they are better on the stage. Enjoy it. Hope my information is helpful for you. Stay metal.

Fact is that western world were not very opened to eastern culture. It slowly changed with the introduction of animes during the 80' but even with that, they often changed the openings.
On the other side, eastern world were always very opened to western musics and metals bands made Japan tours.
The problem is that before internet, western medias imposed what they thought as good or commercial songs. Now, with internet, we can at last discover by ourselves many new, great or different, bands and artists from all the world. We can escape the influence of the western medias.

This is a starter list of all-female or (in two cases, mixed, female-led) metal, punk and hard-rock bands. It's mostly alphabetical, except for the first three, which are at the top of the list for historical reasons. They set the table for the explosion of Japanese female hard-rock, punk and metal bands.

Crossfaith a Japanese heavy metal band from Osaka that was formed in 2006. hey are characterized by performing a style of metalcore with dubstep and other forms of electronic music influences, and for their intense live performances. Crossfaith - 'Leviathan' (Live at BLARE FEST. 2020) th-cam.com/video/zK3tjL0Q_FI/w-d-xo.html Founded in 2012 by Serbian singer/pianist Jelena Dobric and lead guitarist Melik Melek Khelifa , and joined shortly thereafter by the guitarist Yosri Ouada, Persona quickly established themselves with the release of Elusive Reflections (2016) and Metamorphosis (2017). With an exotic and graceful atmosphere flowing through their modern metal sound, yet unafraid to flex some more extreme muscles when needed, Persona will not be held captive by the usual conventions of the female-fronted metal genre. Relocating to Germany in 2019 and solidifying a new line-up with Eike Nehen on the bass and Simon Schröder filling out the rhythm section, Persona have begun work on their third full-length, which will showcase the next step in the band’s impressive evolution. Great reaction to a great band! If you want another recommendation try The Warning. They are an all female heavy rock trio of sisters from Mexico. They aren't as metal as Lovebites but are just as talented. Their album Queen of the Murder Scene might just suit your tastes. The themes of the album are unrequited love, obsession, psychosis and ultimately murder. Sounds dark I know, but its delivered with such passion and talent I think you might like it. The girls are aged 20, 18 and 15 and are showing how female rock can be inspiring just like Lovebites, Band Maid and Babymetal.

Fun fact of LOVEBITES is Miyako (the twin guitarist with the long black hair) is also a classic pianist and highly skilled. I seen some articles that she creates some of the materials we get to hear and witness. My greatest takeaway is the level of daring these girls are proving they are virtuoso to their craft where certain elements you can hear the symphony play the lyrics like an argument going into a small battle before we get the rifts solos and bridges etc these ladies produce. I'm a fan of LOVEBITES where my partner genuinely loves them the same as I do. I loved this reaction overall and looking forward to more of your guys reaction!

I think Lovebites are the best metal band right now. They are obviously great musicians but they are also great songwriters and lyricists. There are so many different levels to their sound. If you go down the rabbit hole and listen to more of their music, besides power metal, you will hear traditional 80s style metal as well as thrash. They all impress the hell out of me with their talent but the one who impresses me the most is Haruna, the drummer. She is a 4'9" giant behind the kit. The tempo she carries throughout most of their songs is mind-blowing. I have all their albums and I have yet to hear a song that I don't like. If you decide to react to any more of their songs, any song you pick is a winner. The one I recommend the most is Break The Wall (live). You will hear the thrash side of Lovebites.

So you’ve been Lovebitten, as expected.
Lovebites is (mostly) a power metal band but they have influences from Metallica, Iron Maiden, Helloween, Slayer, Dragon Force, Gary Moore, Whitesnake, etc., and they’re developing their own style. I recommend their live performances; they really shine live, especially their latest concert earlier this year “Zepp Divercity, Tokyo 2020”. Other recommended live performances are “Daughters of the dawn”, “Battle in the east”, “Wacken”. Avoid “Bloodstuck” (bad audio).
My song suggestions: “When destinies align”, “Hammer of wrath”, “Shadowmaker” (live), Holy war”, “Break the wall”, “Rising”, “Signs of deliverance”, “Swan song” (with classical piano), “Scream for me”, “Raise some hell”, “Under the red sky”, and a special mention to “Thunder vengeance” (mind blowing), “Dancing with the devil” (classic rock and bluesy vocals), “Empty daydream” (nice piano and vocals with catchy mid tempo), “Epilogue” (epic power ballad, great vocals, nice piano, scorching old school guitar solos) and “Edge of the world” (epic power ballad, nice vocals, nice guitar solos and song build up)
Some other Japanese all-female rock bands are: Aldious, Mary’s blood, Bridear, Scandal, Hagane, Nemophila, Fate Gear, Show Ya, etc.
Japanese bands with women in an important role: Asterism, D_Drive, Unlucky Morpheous, Iron bunny, Mardelas, etc.
Other good Japanese bands: Galneryus, Jupiter, Versailles, Maximum the hormone, Ningen Isu, X-Japan, etc.

If I'm not mistaken in Japan the color used to represent death is white, instead of black. I'm not a specialist but maybe it has to do with why they are wearing white? Can anyone deny or confirm this?

Nice reaction coffee lovers! I tried so hard with this band but I don't like the singing :/ The musicians are amazing, especially Miyako (the dark haired guitarist, who is also classical trained pianist!).
    Some suggestions for you:
1/ Doll$boxx "Shout Down" or "Dragonet"
2/ Light Bringer "Resistance" or "Noah"
3/ Unlucky Morpheus "Black Pentagram" or "CADAVER/REVADAC" (these 3 bands have the same singer!!)
4/ Sokoninaru "Tenohira De Odoru" or "METALIN"
5/ Maximum The Hormone "Yoshu Fukushu"
    6/ Mary's Blood "Marionette"
7/ Aldious "We Are" or "SWEET TEMPTATION"
    8/ BAND-MAID ---> any song, they're all 👌🏻
    Cheers

  • @WhatDayIsItTrumpDay
    @WhatDayIsItTrumpDay 3 ปีที่แล้ว

For another Japanese all female metal band, try MARY'S BLOOD. They're even heavier than LOVE BITES, and their vocalist is easier to understand. The Love Bites vocalist unfortunately suffers from a thick Japanese accent. You can tell it by how she uses her mouth to sing. It's too contracted. And the words come out less enunciated than they otherwise would be if she'd just open her mouth more.
Now then, for a non-Japanese all female metal band, check out the Swiss metal called BURNING WITCHES. They are like a modern day mesh of Mötley Crüe and Judas Priest. So yes, they're like a post-Painkiller Priest with a bit of early Mötley Crüe thrown in. Their best hit so far is "Hexenhammer." It's a 6:42 heavy rocker about burning Witches at the stake.

My introduction song to Lovebites. When I heard the intro it was instant love, and that solo between Miyako and Midori is delicious. It's funny when you see someone who's introduced to Band Maid gets directed to Lovebites afterwards. Both bands are absolutely amazing and get better as time goes on and definitely worth keeping an eye on. If you love the sound of Lovebites keep with them. Their latest album Electric Pentagram was amazing. Japan is in no short supply of amazing artists especially female groups. If you like metal than I'd definately recommend Unlucky Morpheus. Their vocalist is absolutely amazing with her voice. All 3 bands are also amazing live if you can find live footage
