The best & most robust cars I've ever driven. I travel 35k each year & I've had my MK4 Titanium 140 for 5 years. Bought at 99,000 miles. The most robust & reliable as well as cost effective car I have ever owned.

Great video! I always loved the Mondeos. In fact I still have a 05 Mk3 and it still drives like new with 91k, and hasn't cost me a bean in repairs other than tyres, battery (still on only it's second) and a pair of coil springs. In fact it still has the original exhaust! And the a/c is icy cold - never needed to re-gas! Well built cars indeed.

Every 2 years. The reason every 2 years for the ac service is the receiver drier which will be full of mould and debris, that and the fact by law whenever the compressor circuit is opened, the refrigerant needs to be emptied and refilled with new stuff. EPA law and all that.

Just do the maintenance! With the dual clutch, If the oil changes are neglected, sludge from the clutch plates will start to cause sticky solenoids, which can cause jerry clutch operation.
THAT will break up the damper spring retainers, putting shards of plastic through the box. Once that happens it's not long till it stops working.
So do the oil changes! DIY too, because there's a procedure to it, (it's on TH-cam) and many service centres don't do it right.

these are, without doubt in my mind, the best family cars ever made. far more practical real world than any SUV because you dont have to lift heavy stuff too high to load them into the car, younger kids can get in and out by themselves rather than needing a lift into the car/stepladder, better fuel economy and handling than an SUV with equivalent ride quality, amazingly comfortable, economical, big boot for all the family stuff/for holidays etc. shame people hadnt realised this sooner as the last EVER mondeo (for Europe at least, it will live on for the Chinese market ONLY i believe in mk6 form) came of the production line in March 2022. i have had them all except the mk3, but i have driven loads of examples of them so know them well enough to comment on also. had i written this comment 3 days ago, i still owned my mk4 facelift, a car which i had owned for 7 years with no issues, however i saw a newer car in a used car dealers and fell in love with that so went and bought it. the replacement? a mk5 Mondeo! its almost like when Tony Blair coined the phrase 'mondeo man' he had someone like me in mind!

I agree that latest Mondeo generation is one of the best looking large, yet affordable saloon/ hatchback on roads. Design is brilliant.

S hammer and big chisel made it run fine and no engine light. Fabric interior, black then white above the doors. It feels quality, but it shakes when I brake. I chose 2010 Ford Mondeo Edge 2L TDCi 138 horse power with automatic transmission as my first car 2 years ago. Found it on Autotrader for £2995. Pristine condition of interior, no scratches on body, just general wear and tear you can expect from 10 years old car. I absolutely love it! Very unique Thunder Metallic colour [ something between grey and blue. Lovely, conservative, yet not boring. I love the car`s conservative design outside and inside. In past 2 years it needed some repairs and about £1500 spent on them so far. I give it a love and it serves well. Now with many new parts it drives better then when I bought it and mechanics said that it still looks solid underneath, so many more years of life left in it. May well keep it for another 5+ years. Interesting fact is that everyone seems to like it. It is simply likeable car on first sight. Conservative, elegant, solid and comfortable and large. When it comes to fuel economy one could not ask for more. If you drive for comfort and pleasure instead of dynamic style, you get 60+ mpg easily. Here is the receipt: High quality engine oil, fresh transmission fluid, tyres inflated to 32-34 psi, engage cruise control, run it at 60 mph at 1800 rpm. Cruise it leisurely like Jay Leno. Get 750-820 miles on full tank.

It surprises me that a very nice looking cars like the Ford Mondeo MK4 and MK5, aren't the number one choice of favourite family cars. The beautiful looking MK5 Mondeo is the worst less loved Mondeo because you can hardly find them on UK roads, which is a shame. Many people rather choose the Vauxhall Insignia, which as far as I am concerned is not a better car than the Mondeo

Great stuff. I've had the 2.5T petrol version (same engine as a Focus ST), for a few years now (maybe 5, 6?). It's a lot thirstier than the diesel (270-280 miles around town on a 70ltr tank but up to 500 miles on the motorway).
One thing is that most are not saloons, they are hatchbacks (as mine is), but with an extended shape that looks almost coupe / saloonesque. I like that. Reminds me of the older Mondeo and Sierra hatchbacks from whence it came. The Saloon doesn't look quite as nice imho, lacking the drama of the long boot of a Sapphire for example, that really set it apart from the hatchback Sierra. Also put a silhouette of the Mondeo MK4 hatchback alongside a Jaguar XF and there's very little difference in it!
They do have cavernous hatches though! You can fit a lot in them, more so with the seats down. I've moved a fridge in one before. That said, they do come in estate guise too, should you want the extra boot height, as the hatchback suffers from that somewhat when loads get really full.

I've owned 2 MK4's in the past 3 years (both 2.5T), one Titanium X and now own a Titanium X Sport and they are comfy, sophisticated, drive very nicely and very spacious. I personally wouldn't go near the base/basic models, but from Titanium X up, either 2.2 diesel or 2.5T, I would recommend... if the price is right.😉

Suppose I could get a Mk5 but despite looking similar in the interior I don't think it looks as good as the Mk4 exterior wise. The only benefit to me would be Mk 5 can be had with LED headlights.

Have a 2010 2 litre tdci titanium, bought it 6 months ago from my mechanic, it was his own car, he felt sorry for me bringing my 2006 1.6 petrol avensis to him every week with some problem or other and spending a small fortune to keep it running. The ford is a miser on fuel if driven sensibly but also a hell of a lot of fun if you want to Bury the pedal in the floor. I would honestly keep it forever if it ran forever, but sadly the climate change agenda will put it off the road permanently in the next 5 years I imagine. Great car, I wouldn't accept a brand new m5 as a replacement if someone offered, I had one, they're dirt.

Thanks for the good videos. I have driven my way through 5 Mondeo cars in 22 years. I love the MK3 but my latest one, MK4 2010 Ecoboost 50000 miler has been the biggest pain ever and I hate it. Gearbox takes about 2-3 seconds to engage 1st which leaves you stranded at junctions, it does this in spite of the £350 3 yearly gearbox oil changes... and even holds reverse with the stick in drive if you catch it right... the car proceeds in opposite direction to that indicated and selected by the stick. The car is too big and wide, awful visibility with crap bloated handling with no steering feel at all. The most unreliable of all the ones I have had. Two brand new throttle bodies in 20k miles, Numerous spurious error messages from the over keen computer including thinking the nearly new battery is flat all the time when it isn't because the Ford software engineer set the level wrong(!) Yes, I hate my Mondeo, basically it failed it's MOT today on that damn stupid adaptive headlight leveller and it going to cost £550 for a new headlight because you can't replace the leveller module and I can't find a used one anywhere... did I mention my knackered rear swing arm bushes that cost a fortune to replace. Do you want to buy a Mondeo? 🙂

Having had it since 98k I’d say the down points are some of the trim is a bit flimsy and the front pillars cause blind spots which can catch you out.
