A great looking car I must say. It is rather sad Ford killed it off in favour of horrible suv's.

Thanks for the comment. The Mondeo has always been a good looking car and I was a bit undecided about this Mk4 (Gen3) when launched, but I think it looks great now... and it really is brilliant to drive. Thanks for watching and continued support.

Not Ford killed it. We, people did. Car makers naturally shift production to what buyers prefer and discontinue what does not sell.

Shocking to think that Ford has/will stop making the:
      Ka
      Fiesta
      Focus
      Mondeo
These were the motoring fabric of the UK.

The step up from Titanium X to Titanium X Sport really makes a difference to how the car looks and feels IMHO. The slightly lowered sports suspension, subtle bodykit and red sticking for the interior really do make it a nice thing to look at AND drive!

Bought one last summer too, same year colour 70k miles top gear cat back exhaust, belts brakes tyres done 3.5 k, love it! You hit the nail on the head performance ford on a budget and a real wolf in sheep's clothing, keep it on the boost and wait for the boy racers in their fiesta Sts to try their luck then boost it :) really does shift, it makes them look silly to their girlfriends in their passenger seats, doesn't fail to make me smile, well apart from the 21.4 mpg it does and £30 a month road tax but who cares, great video

Recently got myself a 2.5 t titanium (non x) hatchback in Black. '07 with less then 150k km (92k miles) on the clock. It has most of the goodies on your example car, but it really doesn't give away the fact it carries that turbo charged 5-pot Volvo machine in the engine bay.
It' 's a great comfortable travelling machine and the massive boot easily takes my road bike without taking any of the wheels out.
However, bury your right foot and it WILL go forward!
It does have a bad drinking habit but then again, so do I.
Love the enthousiasm you show on your channel. You're a true petrol head indeed! Keep up the good work.

Pleasure to drive comfortable on long journeys and always puts i smile on my face.Reliability has been great with only tyres oil changes and i did the cambelt. I've had my Titanium X Sport 2.5T for 11 years and don't ever want to part with it. I think the sport trim (as per the James Bond one, which was and maybe still is on display at the National Motor Museum Beaulieu ) makes it look a lot better, and the interior trim with Piano Black centre console and red stitching also is another winner. Interestingly the X Sport in Australia (and maybe other pacific regions) was badged as the XR5 Turbo.

So... I just bought this model of car last autumn and wanted something interesting, but didnt know i had bought this beauty of a sleeper. I was planning on using this car to get used to 'more horsepower' and then move on to something 'more known' and then try to upgrade that car.
However i quickly came to understand this car is something different 😅
Im very new to modding my car, and wasnt planning on doing it to this car, but i did entertain the idea and went looking online for common mods. I could only find some peope that did a bit of mapping mods to it but to me thats 'cheating' because the whole engine should be beefed up to reliably deliver the improved power.
I see you just mentioned the whole shebang 😂 Can you point me in some direction on how you came to these parts?

I've always quite fancied on of those in estate guise. It's a pity Ford never bothered with a proper ST version for this shape of the Mondeo because all the basics were already there for a great fast Ford. But then I suppose if it wore an ST badge it would go for a heck of a lot more than it currently does! If ever there was a car that proves how important badging is with cars, this is it! Stick on a decent cat-back, turn up the boost a bit and let that 5 pot growl!

Thanks for the comment. The Mk4 Mondeo 2.5 Turbo is brilliant and there are still good examples around. As you say, it is a pity they did not make an ST variant of the Mk4, but I get a sense Ford were going for a more premium brand with the Mk4... and, to be fair, they achieved it. Thanks for watching.

@@cornishcarcollectors tbf they did the mk4 dirty cos the Titanium X Sport 2.5T is an ST in all but name. They should have given it maybe 5-15 more bhp so noone could complain it had less power than the ST220 and noone would have blinked an eye. Personally for the better ride and mod cons I think the TXS is better to live with than the ST220 but hey ho.

Wonderful video. And what a lovely car too. I forgot that the mk4 had a 5 pot variant. I've had one mk4. It was a titanium x 2.0 diesel. 140 bhp. Had a remap and de-cat and it still had 140bhp But at the wheels lol. I've had 3x titanium x sport which I consider to be the replacement for ST. Actually I've had the 3 variants of the mk4.5 titanium x sport. 2.2 diesel manual box. 2.2 diesel auto box and the ecoboost. 3 absolutely Brilliant cars. I'm hankering after another ecoboost as it happens. They look Awesome and go like stink. However the mk4 5 pot turbo seems a ruddy good alternative considering its very tuneable lol.

What a great video I really enjoyed the content I used to have a Mondeo Mk1 many years ago it was a 2 liter Si I had the power engineering zetec Turbo conversion which was really the engine that Ford should have put in the Mondeo in the 1st place it was only 1 of only 7 that they ever did.
I remember an advert for the ST200 which was described as the motorway missile when it was pictured next to a Polaris missile which was quite funny but it was true the ST200 was of a brillant tourer and a fantastic car.
The titanium x you featured us fully loaded all the extras and a great engine indeed and you are perfectly right in anyone on a budget for a fast ford then it ticks the boxes as put a decent set of alloys on and it transform the cars appearance.
The only real problem is finding a real good one as so many Mondys of this nature were bought up by the comapny sales reps putting big mileage on them although there ate still real bargains to be found like the one above you have just sold
The ST220 is a brilliant car as well and so much car for your money the only downside is of course the fuel consumption which isnt brillant but more importantly the road tax bands changed from the 06 plates onwards i believe and if im correct a years tax on the later spec ST220 is around £560 a year.
Anyway a great video so much content and information which brought back some classic momories of my Mk1 Si the Power Engineering conversion produced 205bhp and 250 torque as back then in 1995 when i had it done was very impressive.

      @cornishcarcollectors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for the comment and kind words about the video, much appreciated. Your Mk1 Si Turbo sounds an amazing car! I am fortunate enough to have had a Mk1 Ghia, Mk2 ST200 (never an ST24), a couple ST220s (never an ST TDCi) and the two Mk4 2.5 Turbos. Each of these cars were brilliant in their own way, but my favourite was the ST200 because it drove so nicely and felt special with the Recaro leather seats, ST200 clocks and gearknob, and the Imperial Blue. The ST220 was very smooth, a great car but felt less sporty. I'm sad the Mondeo has been discontinued.
Thanks for watching and hope to hear from you again in the future.

Worth noting that the 2.5T in the mondeo / Focus ST / Smax/ Kuga has a small K04 turbo running at low boost. But in the MK2 Focus RS, they threw away the K04 and went with a bigger K16 turbo, very similar to what the big Volvos were using in the old T5 cars. The turbo in the stock 2.5T engine is a bit of a bottleneck and cannot push enough air to make good power after 5,000rpm. It's designed for low end/midrange grunt... Anyone who's remapped an ST will know that they absolutely FLY are low RPM, but at high rpm the power falls off a cliff.

    • @cornishcarcollectors
      @cornishcarcollectors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for the comment. As you say, the ST is a decent 'off the lights' performer and provides lots of smiles, but the RS is a different animal all together. Thanks for watching.

I bought this car and had exactly these thoughts. It felt like there was an alignment issue. So i did some realignment (badly needed, i think some people were caught offguard when test riding it). And i put some proper brand tires on it... and its behavior started to make sense.
Its so fun to drive now, but its actually the torque pull (to the right) that i enjoy the most😅
If you put it right at that point of drift the car gets in this controlled state of drifting and the torque is so good that it will just go wherever you want it to go.

3:06 no big wheels? Mate, those wheels are 18" which are pretty big in my book. SUV's riding around on 20" wheels just makes those Mondeo wheels seem to be small

Running costs - it's a thirsty engine, so just like Legacy R SpecB and Alfa's V6, it's no longer what buyers want. 25mpg is OK on a sports car but for daily driving...

If the past few years are anything to go by then you are right, values should rise... but I am not sure by how much as we seem to be in a bit of a 'bubble' at the moment. I certainly intend to look after it whilst driving it on nice days. Restoration first... let's see if you still think there is opportunity for value to appreciate once all the bills are in! Thanks for the comment Andrew. Sourcing accurate performance numbers proved pretty difficult, which is why I looked to Parkers for objective / consistent data. Not entirely sure how accurate Parkers is, but it put the ST220 as slower to 60 than 5.5 seconds. Whatever it is, the Mondeo 2.5T remains a strong performer amongst similar cars from Ford over the years. Thanks for watching.

I've got a 2008 XR5 with the Volvo 5 pot which to be honest is now just being run until it dies. Build quality in the first year or two was terrible especially with the power steering rack defect. It's not worth spending the money on it as parts are VERY expensive for it although when she picks her skirts up she really, really moves fast. The downside is I've never had such a badly built car.
The best thing though is that engine; superb bit of engineering from Volvo.

I think, of all the Mk4 Mondeos the 2.5T will be the most or amongst the most desirable. It's a cracking car and the engine makes it, that 5-cylinder makes it special. I do not believe it will go so far as the Sierra Cosworth or ST200, but I do think they'll hold and slowly increase in value.
