Well worth upgrading, years ago when we rallied a Ford Escort, I upgraded to and electronic system, only to find the old HT leads were not up to the new high output. I found that out by using what I thought were insulated pliers to pull a lead off when looking for a miss fire, anyway after my arm stopped hurting and walk 20 yards to pick the pliers up, I know that they can hurt. So be careful around them, I now I am now.
Another trick is to put a washers or two between the oil pump pressure release valve and the block, this will bump the oil pressure up, but don't go to far.
The lotus twin cam kent based engines distributor cap is side entry and far easier to work with if you did not already know and the distributer is also mechanical advance only with no vacuum advance on them as twin 40,s or 45s don’t give a lot of manifold vacuum anyway, hope this may be of some help if you find the engine goes off at higher RPM. They are a good upgrade however they can fail , i am now on my second one , i now carry a spare.
what brand of accuspark for motorcraft distributor ? how much?
