I have a 78 corvette with saginaw transmission, what's the part number to get a hurst complete shifter for it? I only find for a muncie and t10 transmission, or they are the same? Thanks
Looking at a friends transmission and the reverse is all the way left and down. It's a stock gm shifter and the reverse lever will not go any other way. He bought this to put in his Nova. He has a Chevelle with a Saginaw trans and stock shifter that is left and up. The levers are different. Where can he find a different lever for the reverse?
The Hurst installation kit comes with new levers. This should correct the issue. I would keep a lookout for a used Hurst shifter over using a stock shifter. Hope this helps. As always, thanks for watching!
Is there any way you can say where you got the parts from. I can’t find any shifter parts for this trans. Or a like. Or what magazine you got them from.
Sure, I purchased both the shifter and the install kit from a vendor at the Charlotte Auto Fair. I left a link in the description for both the shifter and the install kit from JEGS. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Just to clarify, when you say reverse is down is it all the way to the left and then down? If so, it sounds like the linkage is set up wrong. Are the shift levers pointed up or down on the side of the transmission?
Yes it would. You would need a ten spline clutch with the proper throw-out bearing and also a standard Chevrolet bolt patterned bellhousing for the small block. You'll have to check what size flywheel you have to make sure you get the right bellhousing to fit. They made a 153 tooth flywheel and a 168 tooth flywheel. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
That's awesome. The Chevelle is my personal favorite muscle car. Do you know how many grooves are on the input shaft? The number of grooves will tell you what gear ratio the transmission is. How much power do you think the 327 will make? It will depend upon how much power the car is making and what style of driving it will be used for. For a typical street car I think that it should handle it fine. For hard launches with sticky tires, it might not last. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Good luck with your project.
@@whiteoutram0516 I could be wrong, but 475 hp would probably exceed what the Saginaw could handle. You could run it for now and start gathering the parts to swap in a stronger 4 speed such as a Muncie or Super T-10. I would have any of these transmissions gone through before putting that kind of power through a 50 year old gearbox. Personally I like the 4 speeds, but a Tremec TKO 5 speed would be a good transmission for that kind of power and also give the benefit of having overdrive. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions and I'll try to answer them. As always, thanks for watching!
@@whiteoutram0516 Since you have already had it rebuilt, run it and enjoy the car. You could also look into picking up a spare Saginaw just in case something happens. You can typically find these relatively cheap. It would be an easy swap as you would only have to pull the transmission and bolt the other in.
Yes you should be able too. What kind of car are you working on? Make sure to keep up with your retaining clips as they can go flying. Also, make sure the levers on the shifter are aligned during reassembly for proper operation. Hope this helps! If you have any other questions let me know. As always, thanks for watching!

Love that shifter, do you have a Part #? Good video
The part number for the shifter itself is 530-3910002. The Saginaw 4 speed install kit is 3737919. Thanks for watching!
Great video, question I have a 4 speed for my Camaro and the reverse is down not up. Is there a way to fix that?

Would this fit s small block chevy? Thanks if so how?

How do u think a saginaw will handle a hot little 327 my 65 chevelle has a saginaw in it and I'm putting a pretty nasty 327 in front of it

@@bustedlugnutzspeedshop7456 I haven't checked the input shaft but I will motor should make around 475 its what the builder told me

@@bustedlugnutzspeedshop7456 I'm gonna eventually put a 5 or 6 speed in it but the 4 speed was just rebuilt so it's already ready to be put in lol
