I love the fly fishing stuff. I fly fish a lot of the same areas you do only from a hobie kayak. I like that you showed how it can be sometimes while fly fishing. When you tie your own flies and put in the time the reward seems so much better than it does with a spinning rod. Just picked up a new toy myself gonna be trying around that same area this weekend. Hardy Zane Carbon 8wt and a Hardy Marksman Z 8wt rod. It ridiculous how accurate and smooth it is. Good luck tight lines and please keep the content coming, from Cape Coral Florida
That’s awesome man. And for sure. I saw someone fly fishing the exact line in a kayak today haha. Didn’t happen to be you? This video was filmed today in one part
@@christian_masterson nah wasn't me this time. I haven't been down there in a couple weeks. Been launching at Ding darling off sanibel. A bunch of snook and reds, and got a bunch of nice trout and jacks on a gurgler I tied. Snook and reds came on shrimp and bait fish patterns. Some areas on the back side of sanibel that has some flats and when the tied gets right you and cruise the edge and sight cast reds and snook. Makes for a great day.
There’s a huge opportunity to showcase fly fishing down here in SWFL on TH-cam. Only a few videos here and there. I wanted to get into it years ago but kids got in the way. Definitely keep this content up.
Great video ! I have luck early mornings for tarpon using a gurgler on a Gamakatsu Sc-15 1/0 . Decent weight in the rear and light in the body so I get the lean back pop when I strip . Good luck and keep the videos coming
Great video Christian!! Love me some fly fishing...Man, if u getta chance...Go hit one of my favorite spots, Andros...bonefish are a blast..its amazing!! God Bless brother..
I like to throw a baitfish pattern this time of year until the water really cools down. Especially in that location. Green back white body. Should do you well. Just my opinion. Good stuff keep it up.
Consider moving the fly with the rod tip rather than striping. It is like walking the dog. Rod snap, strip, rod snap, strip. The rod will move the fly in a more natural panic mode. Best to you. Great videos!
@@christian_masterson You are a master at animating your gulp with spin gear. Do the same with the flyrod. Found your paddleboard episode. Perfect combo! Ow water, stealthy paddleboard, stalk on foot...heaven
Love the peaceful vids like this. I was thinking about getting into fly fishing have any recommendations for a rod and reel? Also what part of Florida are you from?
If the fish were there and following quite a bit, it was likely either bad time of the day with tide or it was the fly. Tarpon, snook, and reds all have different feeding patterns. For instance I find tarpon not very aggressive with smaller shrimp patterns and just follow, but baitfish patterns or toads they will attack.
Hey Christian, maybe a baitfish pattern with a lot of flash in a threadfin or Pilchard pattern , check out ,head first fishing he had a friend of mine ties up a fly called the “ thunder struck minnow “ by Cliff Nigh , it’s great on poons and snook ,
More of this!!!! Your style of storytelling and videos while fly fishing is what I've been wanting on TH-cam. Keep it up man.
💪💪💪
Love that your videos are full of great videography and narration, with or without catching fish!
🤙
Best video producer in FL fishing!
Appreciate that
Nice video. I really like your cadence and tone of the video. Well done.
Thank you, I appreciate that!

Haha sounds like a plan

Looks like a nice rod and you cast well. Tie up a Tuscany bunny on those still mornings, poons can’t resist. Great video.
Sounds good man I’ll look into it. Thanks

Honestly not really. I’m not very smart into the different fly game stuff. I know line is most important piece for casting. I’m from Naples!
@@christian_masterson hahah I gotcha no problem! I’m in Sarasota if you ever wanna make a video catching some 300lb+ Goliath grouper just lmk!

Yup that's the reality. That being said, we always bring conventional rods because the conditions can change and not favor the fly rods.
Yessir
Do you still have that micro skiff for sale ? CM
Yes I do. Fishing on it today haha.
Whats your line and reel?
Just got new line and my reel is a Allen Kraken 8 weight
What blank is that?
It’s a custom rod from Jonathon hill over at yellowfin rods! Go check him out. He’s based out of Colorado. Great stuff. 8 weight rod
What time of year if u don’t mind me asking…
Whenever this was posted. Prob 2 days before then
