Hilarious. The best line is "I didn't think that far ahead." What I like is that your video shows a lot of the pitfalls to avoid. I learn way less when I watch the perfect videos. Thank you so much. In the next few days I hope to split the case for a 73.
Well i watched this with the sound off and thought the same with the fork but after reading his comment that he was just after the crank it made some sense i guess? No matter what though doing it the right way is way easier on yourself and whatever parts you want to save.
Cool Video, I have a 72 VW trike I'm working on, well, not right now there's 4 feet of snow outside and its under tarps, hoping to have it running this summer. Then I will build a body for it, I'm going with a Steampunk theme.
Some people should not be allowed to work on VW engines..Would have been so much easier with a decent work bench and more than one rag.... Also, why not remove the cylinder head studs before splitting the case ?
by the way removing the pulley in the bloxk is extremely easy even without the motor running you get a cheater bar on the flywheel nut and a 30mm wrench stand on both wrenches opposing each other and then put sporadic pressure on the nut and it will eventually come free
How about spending a couple of bucks and getting a decent work bench leaving adequate room to place the block and move the loose parts out of the way...the problem with TH-cam is that everyone thinks they can do a presentation that is worthy of watching...
oh you told me off good. But i did these videos for my mother since we lived so far away from each other. This was a way for her to watch me fix up this old beat down bug. Sadly she passed away before i could get it back on the road. After her passing i felt no need In making videos. J-bugs does have great videos, Im sure they would Appreciate to hear how (unsharp) you think i am.

When he hit that fork into the sealing surface the first thing I thought was rip case
the case was trash to begin with. i was after the crank.

you probably forever have oil leaks in the places you forced that pickle fork

Sure made that job hard on yourself...live & learn

What would you call that splitter fork thing you were using?
It's a ball joint remover. Lol I was using the wrong tool for this job.
If you want to see how this is done correctly go to the next video ie) J-Bug 1600 cc super beetle video...those guys, unlike this, are sharp...

Ohhhhhhhhh noooooooo.....
Dont worry. It was a junk case. The rear seal area is heavily corroded and won't hold the seal anymore.
this guy has no idea
