  • Joel’s engine is eating up rear main seals, has some bad end play and is now puking oil out from what we believe is a bad main bearing.
    Here is how to split a VW case.

      Big W Adventures I feel like the other larger TH-cam people have already covered it all, but maybe I say what they have already said a little different.
      Hope you’re doing well, enjoy your day!

      Good Old Mike's Garage thanks brother. Even fighting the flu this weekend we managed to get him back on the road.

    My Late father who rebuit Volkswagen at 2different Volkswagen dealerships used old cylinder heads as a slidehammer after all the case bolts and oil pump were removed .

    Impressive work...now, if you tell me you can remove a door hinge pin, from a '67 Beetle, while door is on the car, you will be VW Man of the Year!" (No longer need mine done, I found a work around, but I don't think it's physically possible!)

      William Cronin I haven’t done much with door pins as of yet.

    Nice find! I have to say, the guy who designs a vertically split case engine needs to be boiled in the oil that leaks out of that engine...

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would have to agree with you on that one.... however if you use a good case sealant and make sure the case halves aren’t warped, you won’t have a leaker.

    Nice job brother! =) What caused the issue?

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      CT this was a unknown engine when he got it a while back. The endplay wasn’t right but he drove it anyway for a while.
      I got him going again, built up a new short block... video comes out Saturday.

    Those case spitters that go in oil pump cavity can distort the crank case line bore the Germans that came around to the Volkswagen Dealership s didn't like them i had one.

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sure it could definitely do that if you cranked on it real hard and left hardware on the case when trying to split the halves.

    Nice job but I would pressure wash the case before touching that thing. Just sayin.

    Ouch, but it happens. Check the webs of the case near the main bearing supports. I had one like that that cracked the center main web.

      Vintage Speed VW we aren’t using this case, it’s best to death past another thrust cut. We split another case yesterday that is in good shape, we’ll build that one for him..... budget build, almost no money.

    I have a engine stand. I've not had any issues mounting a chev 350 or Honda 3.2
    Do I need that mount I see in vw repair videos? I have not come across one with my stand engine mount.

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey David. You should be able to adjust your engine stand to work with the VW engine. Not sure if you’ll have enough clearance with the flywheel on but there’s ways around it. Do what you can with what you have 👍

      You’ll definitely mess up the sealing edges of the case without it! 👍
