Well done Ian hope you are proud of yourself.. back aboard, headed south for canal. Rewarded with great couple of days, FW tomorrow. Welcome in Edinburgh on way home if you come back on east coast. But Norway down to Netherlands and south coast would be a fun run…

Great achievement well done, Mylor must feel a world away now. Nice to see you've had half decent weather. I recon you'd gain 0.25 knt if the inflatable wasn't being pulled ? I remember pulling a tender tether line in by hand when we were sailing in Croatia, about 15knt of wind and a bit of swell, and couldn't believe how much effort it took to pull the tender nearer the boat, there was more resistance than I imagined. I hope your weather is better currently than east cumbria, we've just lost power at the house as the winds are about 40 mph !! Summer 😢😢😢

Thanks Graham 👍🏻 Yep right about the dinghy, but then I would leave Gabrielle for dust… couldn’t accept such an unfair advantage 😉😂 Weather has been on and off, same as the uk, but I don’t think we’ve had anything quite as bad.

Well done! I am considering getting a bigger boat and have looked at some 37 and 38ft boats. I was concerned about single handing, particularly manouvering in close quarters with a boat that size but you seem to manage very well with an even bigger boat. Do you have any advice on this score? Best wishes from Plymouth. James

Thank you James 👍🏻 I wouldn’t class myself as an expert, so it’s just my opinions here. I sized my boat on two main factors, the live aboard space, and being a solid platform in big seas, rather than being tossed about like a rag doll. I was looking for between 40 and 45 foot. GG just sneaks in at just below 40 but she was a sail away boat and I was desperate to sail away 😁 The handling based on length isn’t an issue. It’s all about understanding the wind an current and the prop walk. Once you get to know the boat and how she behaves you’ll be fine. Choose the boat that’s right for your circumstances and what you want to do. A bigger issue is the bigger the sail area, the bigger the strain on you sailing in heavy weather. Handling the sails on GG can be tiring in strong winds.

No, just dirty. I wouldn’t recommend buying a light coloured one, after a few years it won’t look good any more. I have died it black now.
