I have Reed slightly above Jared on my big board right now because I like his passing and defense better, but I actually think McCain could become the better and more creative scorer eventually.
Was just thinking this. The gap in their game may not be that big right now. Yet, one is projected in the top 7, the other a mid-first. McCain is looking to be a nice consolation if you're looking for this archetype of player. As teams drafting in the mid-first range are typically just looking for specific skillset than potential, McCain might even look better from the get-go.
i think fred vanvleet is the best comp for him they can shoot 3s, run the pnr, play D and play on the right way but they can't finish at the rim because of their height great video!
@@FloorandCeiling Let's GO Sixers!! Great breakdown. My buddy is a Duke lifer and says this kid is comparible to the uncomparible one who's name is not allowed to be brought up in any conversations for some reason. You can compare Jordan but not Curry.. Well I'm saying it. Mr. Chef Curry wit the pot himself. This kid has Curry vibes.
Yeah, I think McCain has more passing chops than what he could show off at Duke because the ball largely went through others. He was much more of an on-ball in high school.
I’m with you. I think the difference between McCain and Sheppard is a lot smaller than people think. Both guys are late lottery picks to me with similar ranges.
@smoothhoops3739 off the ball Sheppard seems to have to advantage but on the ball, I'd give to edge to McCain due to his strength. I think Shepp will be targeted by opposing defenses a great deal until he proves he can handle it.
I think KJ Simpson from Colorado is closer to Pritchard's NBA role, while I actually think McCain's best case scenario could be more similar to Jalen Brunson.
I like his mid-range ability. The mid-range becomes more useful in close games and in the play-offs. Athleticism is definitely a concern but looks like pace and savviness makes up for it.
Agreed. It's important to note here that he played in the midrange even more in high school, so I'm sure there's more to his game there than what McCain showed at Duke.
I see him as closer to a Seth Curry type of player, but McCain is there to address the off-ball guard with 3pt shooting need that Philly has been looking to address with Curry, Korkmaz, Shake, Springer, etc
Even then, Derrick White sees the ball a lot for the Celtics. He's a really important player for them, even if he does play more a role - or I guess, he's not as much of a star as Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown. If McCain can get to that level of volume, he'll have a great career.
@@Life-Of-Dmac There hasn't been an official measurement recently (at least publicly), but having spoken with him and seen him in person before, it's around the same as his height. The NBA Draft Combine will clear this up probably.
As of today McCain is a scorer with a rather selfish game, he passes the ball little and almost always when he is in trouble, but his ease and good percentages in the three-point shot could give him the role of an unblocker coming off the bench. He seems to me a similar profile to Bones Hyland. But for the future (in 2 or 3 years) he has interesting qualities as he is neither a bad passer nor a bad defender, but he needs to gain body and ability to better understand team play.
I think McCain can facilitate for others, but that was covered at Duke by other players so he was mostly focused on scoring. In the short term, he'll probably be better off the bench but I also see an outcome where McCain becomes a valuable starter for a team. I feel comfortable drafting him in the lottery.
Lakers' draft decision should be really interesting this year. In hindsight, there's been some criticism for drafting Jalen Hood-Schifino, especially with Jaime Jaquez available, but I think that'll turn out to be a good selection in due time.
More of a 3rd guard, but will probably have one of the longest careers of anyone in this class. Great content.
Thanks, appreciate you! Really like how you pointed out the idea of a 3rd guard. NBA teams like that a lot nowadays.
Mcaid vs Reed, who would you pick?
I have Reed slightly above Jared on my big board right now because I like his passing and defense better, but I actually think McCain could become the better and more creative scorer eventually.

He was held back by his coach, don't be surprised if he ends uo as the best guard in this draft
id be very surprised
Explain how he was held back? Seems like you never watched a Duke game
I’d love to hear an explanation on this one, especially the best guard talk
i think fred vanvleet is the best comp for him

great video!
Appreciate you! Going off what you’re saying, it makes sense why he’s being linked with Houston so much.
He can be good right away next to a good to great scoring/ playmaking guard like Maxey in Philly. Fox in Sacramento or Herro in Miami
McCain to Philly is one of my favorite possible fits in this draft. Thanks for watching!

At a team that always has plenty of guards like Miami but no true point guards could he become more of a facilitator to get on the floor?
Yeah, I think McCain has more passing chops than what he could show off at Duke because the ball largely went through others. He was much more of an on-ball in high school.
Very little difference b/w him and Reed Sheppard. Either Sheppard is overrated or McCain is underrated.

Reed is higher because of defense and passing. But McCain is also underrated tbf

Good Analysis!

Will he have like a Payton Pritchard role in the nba?

@@FloorandCeiling off topic but which team do you think is the best fit for Dillingham? Spurs?
@@smoothhoops3739 Definitely San Antonio. I think his representatives at Klutch are gonna do everything they can to make that happen
I think he will be a very good role player similar to the level of Derrick white

I think guards need some type of real paint pressure to collapse defenses these days so I see him as a future bench roleplayer
That’s fair but I think McCain will be able to bend defenses with his shooting. Thanks for watching!

Today’s Combine: 6'3.5" wingspan
Future okc
I could see this, but only depending on how the picks before play out. In other words, I don't think McCain will be OKC's priority.

Miami Heat 🔥💪
I like him as a Heat target, though I think my favorite fit there would be Devin Carter.

would love the Lakers to draft him if they are trading Gabe away
