      Thank you so much Clark for spreading the word about alcohol & for inspiring people to quit. I hope the entire world quits! Then Earth would have a true awakening. No one is "woke" if they're drinking alcohol.

      I resonated with this video so much. I have been preaching for a while not to everyone around me that getting sober is the best decision I have ever made. Every reason and how well you explained it in this video, so well spoken and I wish I could force people to by themselves watch this at least once. Thank you for reminding me I’m not alone on this journey of complete sobriety

    987 days here, and at 42 my life has been transformed. Best shape of my life, clear head. Tons of new interests and hobbies. Flying airplanes again, riding motorcycles. Marriage could not be salvaged, but I am the best father to my little girl that I could have imagined becoming.. Growing professionally. I do not recognize the man I was four years ago. Still having trouble forgiving myself for some of my mistakes, which I initially attributed to alcohol. Now with a clear head I am able to reflect back on past lives and see where alcohol was a symptom of something deeper.
    With time we heal. To anybody else on this journey, stick with it, folks. It will transform your lives.

Hangovers were using to last the entire week!I hope last week was my last time, no more bottled or canned demons in my life!

      @Mrbeest_1st brother, find your why and it will stick. I made a terrible decision and hurt somebody dear to me, and everything imploded.. I still kept going for a good 8 months afterwards. One evening, I was nursing a gnarly hangover when my daughter climbed on my swollen booze gut and just looked at me. And she had these big, sad eyes. She was 19 months old. And I looked at her and basically just died inside a little, because I was such a piss poor excuse for a father. I made a promise to her right there that I would put that poison down once and for all. That was January 30th, 2022. And it's wild, because I knew I had a problem for a while now, but was in total denial. Multiple failed attempts at moderating.. When that little baby girl looked at me, that was all it took.. she was my why. Find your why, brother

      Three years now. My interest in drinking alcohol ist completely gone. What helped me to overcome the cravings was using some activities as a replacement. Going for a walk, a workout, a turn with the bicycle or motorbike, chit chat with someone. And I quit caffeine too, because it inhibits natural relaxation. And I kept reminding myself of the reason why I quit: I no longer treat my body like a trash can.

    I quit alcohol in April 2021. Never been back to the drink. I don't miss it at all. I don't crave the feeling of it either. Alcohol is a fake experience with connecting to others honestly. My body has shifted into a vibration I never knew was possible. My exercise results are better now in my 50's than in my drinking 30's. My emotional and mental clarity is off the charts, too, by now. HIGHLY recommend to quit a habit that will slowly erode you away. The choices you make are way more responsible, too.
    To alter your state of being with something like alcohol is actually a subtle way of self bullying 💛🌟💫

      Here are the top 7
      1. Mouth and Throat Cancer: Excessive alcohol consumption can damage the tissues in the mouth and throat, increasing the risk of cancer.
      2.Esophageal Cancer: Alcohol, especially when combined with smoking, is a significant risk factor for esophageal cancer.
      3.Liver Cancer: Chronic alcohol abuse can lead to liver damage, including cirrhosis, which can increase the risk of liver cancer.
      4.Colon and Rectal Cancer: While the exact mechanisms are not fully understood, heavy alcohol consumption has been linked to an increased risk of colorectal cancer.
      5.Breast Cancer: Even moderate alcohol consumption has been associated with a slightly increased risk of breast cancer in women.
      6.Pancreatic Cancer: Some studies suggest that heavy alcohol use may contribute to the development of pancreatic cancer.
      7.Larynx Cancer: The voice box, or larynx, is another area that can be damaged by excessive alcohol consumption, increasing the risk of cancer.

    25 years old, just got over 3 months sober, I decided to stop because I hated hangovers and I also realized that almost all bad choices I’ve made in my 20s so far involved excessive drinking. I didn’t drink super frequently (1-2 times per week) but when I did I would drink quite a bit. I’ve noticed that I am so much more clear headed, and my weekends start at 7 am opposed to 1pm. Sean - good for you! I'm going to give you a little "old man advice" (I'm 59) that you can take or leave...but I hope you take it. Do a quick estimation of what the amount of money you were previously spending each month on alcohol...and include the bar food, etc you bought for yourself (and drinks/food for a girlfriend or dates, etc). You will likely be surprised at the amount of money that directly related to alcohol (I sure was...it was around $300/month). Whatever your amount is...whether its $40 or $400...start putting that amount into savings or a 401k or IRA each month. You are used to not living on that money anyway...and starting this at your age and doing JUST THAT would guarantee you a millionaire retirement. I shit you not 👍 Cheers to your journey 😬

    I stopped about seven years ago. All the good things happened, but the social part was and continues to be challenging. a.) frequently drinkers don't like to hang out with people not drinking, and b.) it becomes difficult for me to hang after everyone is on their third round - the conversation suffers. Overall it's been a vastly net-positive path. Highlighting that not drinking is a possibility, an alternative, is a terrific service. Thank you for the video Clark.

      I have your drinking pattern. I recently put on a Dexcom G7 glucose monitor to check out different foods and how it affects my blood sugar and sleep. I found out just with two glasses of wine, I had small, but too much glucose spikes throughout the night. I tried it again during the week without drinking and had the best sleep ever with zero alcohol. Think I am going to limit myself to two drinks Friday night two drinks Saturday night for now and work my way to having a glass or two on very special occasions. I found that my desire to have the wine goes from about 4 PM until 9 PM at bedtime. I started eating my dinner earlier then occupying my “drinking time“ by going to the gym and just walking on the treadmill. Best of luck.

    Thanks Clark! Love this: authentic delivery, great content, and this resonates with me... I'm only 9 days into my own freedom from alcohol journey. My reasons for ditching alcohol weren't due to any "rock bottom", more of a health/wellbeing decision, recognising all that I gain from being free from drinking poison... I'm feeling better than I can remember: sleeping better, more mentally alert/active (had terrible brain fog while drinking), and even feeling my relationships with others are far better, like I'm actually giving people more eye contact, presence... It's nice to know my mind and body are now able to heal after, some less than ideal treatment over the last several years. And I love your advice around accepting discomfort. This absolutely nails for me why I continued to drink, despite there being no net benefit: a very low tolerance to work stress, triggered at about 6.00pm when I justified the "need" to drink to "unwind". (There's nothing relaxing about the horrors of the next morning, as we all know!) We live in a society where quick fixes are all the go, but realising alcohol fixes absolutely nothing, is empowering. Thanks again! Fantastic advice - and all really positively delivered. :)

    • @TotallyLikeCosmic
      @TotallyLikeCosmic 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Hey Charlie, sorry about your dad. I lost my mum and step-dad to drinking a few years ago. Congrats on 7 days! I'm on 9 days, so right there in the same zone! I'm 46, and I've known I've had a drinking problem (binge drinking/unsafe levels) for probably ten years or more... Honestly, I wish I'd known all I know now about how harmful alcohol is. Had I known, I wouldn't have continued to entertain the idea of "moderation" or "just drinking socially"... it's all just a fallacy, and like Clark mentioned in his video, I just kept watching my drinking increase as time wore on. And, because it messes with mental health over time, I found my goals slipping away, feeling impossible, out of reach... Since stopping drinking, I've been feeling great, much happier, and my goals are back in reach. So my realisation over time is that the best time to quit for good is right now. Keep going! Don't let your brain try to tell you that you've done well and "deserve" a drink, or let yourself romanticise that drink over Christmas or holidays... You're always better off without booze to drag you down. We can always think of our parents - it's a painful but useful reminder - and know that alcohol is not our friend. Wishing you all the best. :)

      @Primordial_one fantastic! Before you know it, you'll have years under your belt. Being able to say "I don't drink" or "I don't smoke" comes naturally and when I say it out loud. I know it's true and that it always will be. Keep it up, and if you need any additional support I highly recommend listening to Andrew Huberman's podcast about what alcohol does to your body and a you tuber named Sober Leon, he uses his first principal approach which allows you to see alcohol for what it truly is and the social influence and how to deal with people that try to pull you back in. I actually still hang out with all of my friends that drink, but everyone knows that this is a permanent choice for me and no one ever even tries to sway me. I do shots of pickle juice whenever they want to include me in a "cheers". These are friendships that I've had for over 30 years so I wasn't willing to part ways, nor were any of my friends, I appreciate their respect, I wish everybody had this type of support, I am grateful as I know this is rare.

    I quit December 3rd 2022 so I’m at day 746 as of time of writing. I quit because I decided to take my health more seriously. I’m getting older, I’m 45, and I’ve always been a cardio and gym kinda guy but it always felt like starting over at the gym after a night of drinking. But now it doesn’t feel that way.
    I too also noticed the sleep quality goes thru the roof which is a huge motivator for me to stay sober. I notice the mental clarity too and I read a lot now, at least one book a month sometimes more.
    I get a lot more done but do get bored quite a bit but always find something to do. I definitely have more drive to accomplish things that’s for sure.
    Sober life is good, hoping I reversed some damage to liver after 30 years of drinking. Didn’t have any actual diagnosed liver problem or anything just assuming all the years of drinking may have takin a toll. But I read our livers are very resilient and will repair itself so hopefully that’s the case. I’ve been taking a lot of liver supplements too like milk thistle. Anyway thanks for the video I’m catching up to ya, trying to get to 1000 days too.

I know I must have a focus...a purpose...a goal or I'll fall back on stupid useless drinking. I now have signed up to the gym and up at 3:30am to get ready and at the gym by 5am. My friends are really supportive, but there's still a little sense of loneliness from not being involved in the drinking with everyone. I have to leave early, etc. I'm known as the "girl who doesn't drink now" lol. But one benefit is that I've definitely improved my charisma when I'm not drinking... Congrats on 1000 days man! Ive been a musician my entire life, my drinking evolved into drug use, and then became my normal.....it was not normal. I got sober in 2020, and have not looked back. It's taken meetings, help, a program, and a deep dive into myself that includes a much more spiritual existence. When I looked back at my life, I realized how much addiction had shaped my life and my choices. "Choices" I say, but it was making my decisions for me. Sobriety has enabled me to tackle issues in therapy that have changed my life. I quit bands and divorced the music scene for two years, and have come back to it with a new love devoid of all of the validation BS, and performance anxiety that I had before. To be honest, it's not just being sober, it's actively recovering from addiction. For me, its like fitness...I have to absolutely be active in my recovery to keep my sobriety. Which sounds possibly arduous, but honestly it's not. The friends I have, the relationships I have, and the life (far from perfect) Im living is far superior. One day at a time, I will never go back.

    Great video! I quit 10 months ago, for health reasons. I'm about to turn 60 and I just figured it was time to cut way back. My goal at the beginning was to just stop drinking during the week, but I found I didn't miss it much, and found it easy to not drink on the weekends, either. And you're right about the time coming back into my life...I found myself with a lot of extra time and an increase in my energy...so I started taking care of a lot of chores around the house I had been putting off because I was either preparing for a weekend of partying or too tired/unmotivated to do it. Over the last several months I have cleaned, sanded, and stained my decks and gotten the house itself prepped for a new coat of paint (which I will do myself as soon as spring temp arrive). Saving a ton of money I used to spend on booze and bar food...and increasing the value of my property at the same time. Win/win ... and BONUS, I am working myself into much better shape in the process. Not going back to the old ways 👍

I started physically feeling “off”. Not sleeping that great, gaining weight, stomach acting weird, etc. I woke up in the middle of the night recently to a headache and dehydrated. I told myself, “You know this can’t be good for your brain”. I have a friend from church with dementia and it’s getting really bad. I don’t know what part alcohol may play in this but I’m not willing to chance it. Today I can’t say I’ll never drink again but I can say I’m backing way off. being sober, straight edge, completely drug free is actually so insanely beneficial to almost every aspect of life. you take so much drugs to silence your thoughts but actually not taking any type of drug for a prolongued amount of time makes your thoughts go silent, it is some weird magic. I mean it's a spectrum, you don't have to always aim for the extremes, but if you don't need to drink or avoid drinking alcohol or consuming any drug for 6 out of 7 days a week, that is what I would recommend as the default action for anyone trying to get a grip on their consumption. decrease frequency, decrease volume, then eventually you can just completely jump off and after 3 or 6 weeks you will eventually feel amazing, Clark is not lying here!

    A lot of the benefits you mention aren’t necessarily always accurate for alcoholics and people who have drank many many years. Often times your sleep gets worse after you quit. Eventually it will get better but many people actually report insomnia when quitting. Also the mental clarity part. A lot of people will actually experience more mental fog for months after quitting while their body is trying to heal. Most people who drink a lot actually feel like crap for a long time after getting sober but it does get better with time. 24 years sober so far! Haven't had alcohol once in my life and I don't think that I ever will. It just seems to have a lot of downsides, and quitting is a lot harder than never starting

    I recently went keto-carnivore due to autoimmune issues, and subsequently was forced to reevaluate my daily drinking habit. I realized I'd rather feel great without alcohol than like crap and use it to mask my pain.

    5 years, 13 days. I agreed with every part of the iceberg, so to those drinkers who are sober curious, this video is spot on. Especially the last bit about what you stand to gain by going sober as opposed to what you are giving up. Well done!

    Another awesome video Clark 👏 I stopped drinking almost 2 years ago and to be honest I was only going to do it for 30 days but I just kept going with it and I genuinely feel now like there's a part of myself that got to finally grow up and it would never have been possible if I kept drinking....and I had no idea 💡 lol

    Outstanding piece. All rings true after 60+ years of ups and downs. I won't list them all, but I've found many other things get better as well once you take the jump. Doesn't happen overnight but hang in there.

    drink every Friday, Saturday and Sunday just pounding them down. Did that for about eight years go to work and feel like crap Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday all day Friday I was anticipating like you said the drink and was happy about it until I started noticing the side effects over the last three months of borderline psychosis trying to creep in I said that’s enough that was a month ago. I’m never going back after a week and a half my brain fog went away. Body started feeling a lot better started to lose a weight started exercising taking better care of myself

    A lot of people are stopping because the price of alcohol has gone up recently to where it is not worth it for many people. This video has a lot of gems in it. "Two pint buzz" - understood. Good one!

    • @colinrussell2017
      @colinrussell2017 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That two pint buzz is usually where I go "Hey! I'm having a good time! Lets have a third!"
      Then we're off to the races and the finish line is around seven pints.
      Personally, I find it far easier to just not start than to try and moderate.
      It's like popping open a bag of potato chips to have just one.
      Good luck with that!😂

    • @paulbrown5839
      @paulbrown5839 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@colinrussell2017 Exactly the same here Colin. If you have ever been a binge drinker, moderation is very hard to sustain. For those who have always been light drinkers, it's doable.

    Spot on, every level! ❤ Okay, this time around I'm only on day 64, but I'm a repeater anyway, so I know it's true! I started a personal vlog, very much like why you said you're doing this clip, YOUR experience, and I'm the same, I'm doing it just as a reminder for ME to look back on.
    Your bit on respect is deeper for me, I realise drink leaves people without any respect, both towards others and themselves.... I haven't exactly experienced others respecting me more without drink, but at least I've my self respect back! ❤
    And the boredom, or realizing how much time you do have! Boredom very quickly turns into inspiration, motivation, or as you said, drive to just do something, even cleaning!
    ❤ No, spot on, this clip, thank you ❤

    I've spent my life avoiding alcohol. I find it interesting how people initially love it, then get older and celebrate leaving it behind forever
    I'd like to discuss coming out of our shell and connecting with people without the use of alcohol. It always seemed like a crutch from the outside looking in

      it's a carb craving that got twisted
      if you make sure to consume about 25 grams of protein every four hours outside of sleep, you can crush the cravings.

    Thank you so much for this video. I am sober over a year now, after having a serious drinking problem. I just turned 30. I'd had many attempts to quit drinking and finally I managed to. For most of the time i didn't think I had a problem, "this is normal, I'm in my twenties, It's normal to drink a lot, how such a young person can have a problem" I had a good paying job, but I started to slip and drink more and more. My therapist described it as a high functioning alcoholism. I think there may be a lot HFA out there living in denial. many young people. If I discovered this video earlier maybe it would be easier for me. I think it's important to spread this information that it is OK not to drink, to refuse alcohol at a party etc. I think the hardest part was admitting to myself that I had a problem, then it was "just" a case of solving that problem, but as I mentioned it took me around a year of trying. It turned out I was(still am) suffering from long episodes of depression and anxiety (psychiatrist and antidepressants helped), that was my trigger, a deeper reason to escape to alcohol, which, in the long run, made it much worse. Now, staying sober, I am able to do my hobbies, and things I could only dream about while drinking. Anyway, stay strong, one way or another it is possible to quit.

    717 days here. Love the fact that you didn't have to find a bottom to make the decision to change your life. Seriously, that's something to be proud of. Quite an accomplishment. I didn't get sober until the DUI's started piling up. In Louisiana a 4th offense comes with a 10 year prison sentence. After my 3rd charge I became convinced that I was out of control and finally got sober. Life is now exponentially better in every way.
