I greatly enjoy all of your adventures, Thanks for the excellent review on your new DR 650. Watched you get it new from the dealer and..... I just brought my brand new 2024 DR 650 home today !!! Same beautiful black/grey/orange as yours. Can,t wait to start my 600 mile break in on that rascal tomorrow. Bought a 2020 xt250 also like yours last month with 191 miles and in showroom new condition but found it too small and under powered. It will hit Myrtle Beach, SC craigslist quite soon. They are both over in my living room ! Oh... never too old to ride... I,m 71 and proud owner of 4 motorcycles and 2 ebikes.
Buy the JNS Engineering aux light mounting bracket for the DR650. I ended up putting an LED in the headlight, then adding 16,000 additional lumens with two pair of LED pod lights...small pair combined output 6000 lumens, large pods combined output 10,000 lumens. I live in the California gold country and here deer are a bigger hazard than vehicles. With a total of roughly 19,000 lumens on the road, as opposed to the stock halogen alone with an output of maybe 1800 lumens, I feel a LOT safer driving at night. JNS also has other great stuff specific to the DR. I also have their skid plate and their footpeg lowering brackets. I have all three on my KLR too. Great products, never had or heard of a problem with their stuff.
@precipiceofgrind The advantage of the JNS bracket as opposed to mounting on your crash bars is that with the bracket, the lights turn with your handlebars, just like the headlight does.
Thanks for the video, I needed a reminder to take the chain roller off. Also replacing the headlight was one of the first things I did. That stock headlight is terrible.
Wow you went from a dead battery flashlight to that LOL you should definitely be able to see what's in front of you now. When you showed us the old headlight I couldn't even see the dirt in front of you 🤣🤣
That's an excellent way to describe the stock light, dead battery flashlight! The Cyclops will make a huge difference! I want to add some aux lights as well, good to be all lit up. Appreciate you watching!
Great video man! Picking up a new-to-me Dr650 on thursday, it does have a bunch of mods/accessories on it already but I will definitely be checking for the upper chain roller and removing it immediately. Have you done the Sprocket seal retainer add, or the NSU switch fix? i'll be doing those too if they haven't been done already. thanks!
I owe a 2023 xt250, best dualsport out there for adventure riding. Was thinking about getting a 300ls ,but changed my mind. Im 5/7 and I find it very comfortable to ride. Even better now with bigger foot pegs, bar risers, seat Concept. Take about 1,000 miles for the seat Concept to break in. Also bar weights, no variation at all. Those upgrades makes that bike very comfortable. Might put a 16th tooth Sprocket on it ,not sure. Don't want to lose to much low in Torque.I have about 30 to 40 miles to get to my trails. If you have the capability, that little bike can go anywhere.
Cool. Fastest response ever! After a two year period of figuring out which dual sport I want, I finally settled on the DR 650. Now the search is on for all the best/correct mods. Videos like yours are very helpful. Never heard about removing the chain roller! I’ll make sure to get that off the bike as soon as I get it home. I own a handful of bikes but the DR is going to be my one and done for an off grid tinfoil hat scenario. No fuel injection computer chips to be concerned about if there’s ever an EMP lol. Thanks again!
I took of the reflectors on the front forks, (leave the brackets on) drilled them out a little bit, and mounted my Aux. Lights there. This may not work for your DR because of the your tank. But food for thought... If you have the time, take a quick look at about the 3:40 mark and you can kinda see what I did. You most certainly do not need to watch the entire, very boring, video - but I like how my lights look too. th-cam.com/video/Hoo1VE2_tII/w-d-xo.html Cheers

I would try to use your front reflector brackets for extra lights
2X6 Pine seat was my first dump
Heard that!

Going to have a look at this, thanks for sharing!

You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Try using the front reflector mounting point and piggyback off of them.
you can mount 2x 3" led headlighs removing the two yellow reflectors and using the same brackets to mount the headlights
I think that's what I'm going to do, thanks for sharing!
I always wonder if you can just make the roller longer so chain can't jump over it, then you still have benefit of a roller??
Wow you went from a dead battery flashlight to that LOL you should definitely be able to see what's in front of you now. When you showed us the old headlight I couldn't even see the dirt in front of you 🤣🤣

How much wider is the Seat Concepts than the stock seat?
@@precipiceofgrind it's about 2"inch.
Thanks for the detailed mods. Any idea on the neutral sending unit?
good video
Thanks, appreciate you watching!
Thank you for this video! I’m curious if you’ve had any trouble with the new headlight fan since it’s a bit more exposed to the elements?
You're welcome, thanks for watching. So far so good, no problems with the new headlight.

Does that fan on the new led bulb not blow a load of dust into the reflector making it dirty less reflective…?
No issues thus far.
I have a 2023 klr , do you like the Dr 650 more ?
It depends, both bikes have different purposes for me and I immensely enjoy them both. I'm going to do a comparison video on the two soon.
❤👌❤👌❤👌❤👌

Jamming Tom Sawyer, very nice sir! What lights do you have? I think that's my place for aux lights, in place of the reflectors.
@@precipiceofgrind I think they are called "CRI" - or - "CREE". I gotta run, but maybe I can find them when I return. I'll leave this up...
Dude, I can't find them - Now the name "appears" to be "Wolfspeed" ???
Just remember with you tank - that may not work... Again, food for thought
OBI-WAN DR650 legend. 🎉
Won't the fan blow dirt into the light lens?
I’m pretty sure it’s a sucker fan and not a pusher.
Do you get the front wheel wobble on that like with the xt
I get the wobble when I'm trying to pass a semi on the interstate, I'm thinking its the huge wind shovel of a front fender that comes stock on the DR.
