Similar to the monster from Forbidden Planet. I remember watching some old sci-fi movie on TV late one night, and the plot and invisible monster were so much like the Invisible Monster episode that I immediately thought of Johnny Quest. I'm glad I grew up with the original Johnny Quest episodes -the ones when the adults smoked cigarettes, drank cocktails and shot guns and people died....And then the sexual tension between Race Bannon and Jade..and at the same time, the kids knew the difference between themselves and the adults. Everyone was happy and well-adjusted -especially after preventing the world from being destroyed. Just another day, another mission. Maybe the best cartoon of all time. Of course, we can't show kids cartoons that show anyone smoking nowadays! God forbid!

Gotta add my 2 cents. By far, the scariest was Invisible Monster. Me & my mom watched that one & even she was horrified when they put paint on it. I remember her saying, "Good Lord" when you finally got a look at it. I was already scared but when she said that, had me Terrified! Had nightmares for almost a year. Didn't dare get close to utility poles for awhile either. Robot Spy was next because for a while, you didn't know if the Quest clan had actually met their match with aliens.

Perfect. My wife and I fully agree. Energy monster with the same horrifying sound as the Id monster in Forbidden Planet several years before.
Lizard men was James Bond for kids, and bond movies would even borrow r he speed boat storyboard years later.
Best animation of the series was the dogfight in Condor. That was so clean it almost looked like live action. Do those gel animations and cheater techniques over great mat paintings and you have great images. Do them over rushed and cheap backgrounds and reuse the background 5 times a minute and you have Scooby Doo.

NO FREE JOHNNY QUEST! They want you to pay to watch. They can go to hell, I just bought season 1 for 7 dollars. On my next day off, I'm going to sit down with a bowl of popcorn and a mountain dew and watch all 26 episodes. YEA FOR ME!

Good choices! I'm in full agreement with the Energy Monster being top episode. It really scared the crap out of me as a kid; and it's creepy even to this day. Can you imagine a Jonny Quest movie made with the '60s storylines and today's special effects?

If those clowns in Hollywood didn't over think things,it would be a great entertaining movie. But,look at the track record, 2 attempts at King Kong,2 attempts at Godzilla,a wack attempt at the British TV show The Avengers, and, a really weak attempt at the TV show,Lost in Space. If J.J. Abrams could just reign in the temptation to get too fancy,he might be a good choice, and,Steven Spielberg would really be a better choice ,because he's a Baby Boomer, and would have a better understanding of Jonny Quest.

Quite honestly, while I think The Robot Spy hada considerable amount of creepiness to it, I have to say that The Invisible Monster was the creepiest for me. It's the sense of mystery it holds, it's ominous and monstrous nature, and if it's still out there that gets me. I recall watching the episode when I was five-seven years old; scared the living shit out of me! Had nightmares about it for a good few days, and I was even afraid of stepping on the floor normally. Not to mention the thing looks creepy as fuck.

HP Lovecraft influenced that energy being episode and it scared the hell out of me as a kid. It is still creepy and makes me wonder if scifi concepts and story lines from the fifties are foreboding and prescient. Johnny Quest from the sixties created an alternate universe that really hasnt dated that much which makes it classic.

I used to watch this when I was 7 years old on Cartoon Network reruns, it was my dad’s favorite and he got me into it. I thought it was the most awesome cartoon I have ever seen and I thought it was unlike anything I have ever see. The first episode I saw was The Invisible Monster, and what a great start that was. My favorite episode is still The Robot Spy.

Like so many others on here, I spent a good deal of my childhood watching Saturday morning cartoons. Johnny Quest was on Sundays though where I lived (Pennsylvania, all over!). And I ALWAYS remembered this episode! I could hardly tell you the others (yeah, the spider robot and the huge pterodactyl are a few!). I too was totally creeped out by this monster! One other cartoon that I always thought was WAY TOO MORBID for kids was the Tom and Jerry episode where there is a banquet that Tom has to protect from the mice. He fails so his punishment is the GUILLOTINE!! OMG! Its amazing I am not more effed up!!

I think The Robot Spy was the best for me. The creep factor in that one is very high, largely due to a lot of night scenes and just the spiderlike characteristics of the robot. I also had a UFO of sorts in which it traveled in. The opening sequences of the episode had to be one of the best as well, when it first starts doing it's dirty work. It would had made things creepier if they would had decided that it's legs wouldn't had looked like sticks.

This was awesome🤩👍 I have never seen the original Jonny Quest cartoon but my first introduction to the series was when I was 7 years old in Nigeria in 2002 and would watch Real Adventures of Jonny Quest on CN. The theme song always stuck with me and today I just ordered the DVD of the original series. I love retro shows like this, especially from Hannah Barbera😍👍 My dad loved them and we would watch them when I was a kid in the 2000s.

"The Invisible Monster" plays with suspense like a Hitchcock movie, hiding the true form of evil as much as possible.
That's what is really scary, you know there's a threat outside, ravaging the place, but you don't know who, what it is and how it's look like.
The final sequence of "Monster in the Monastery" is truly amazing... the entire place ravaged for some (until then) unseen force, every single villain smashed like a tomato and, out of nothing, the Yeti screaming like "I run this place, m*f*ckers!"

The one with the crazy WWI German flying ace, Tooru, the first episode with the Sargasso Sea frogmen, the one with the ersatz Race ("There's only Race Bannon!"), all have to be in my top 5! But I don't think there's an episode of the original run that rates lower than "pretty damned good".
