    I have been using them for the past three years...no more injuries and have enjoyed my running a whole lot more.
    I have run trails and long road races in them and have experienced better runs and recovery.
    word of note if you are about to move to them for the first time - Patience is the key as they take a long time to get use to, so swap between
    traditional and vibrams and keep building from there.
    Good Review.

      I made a sharp transition from standard running shoes to barefoot Merrell Vapor Glove 4's and I didn't pace myself because I was too lazy. Even though that was the case I still didn't get any injuries because I only ran very small distances at first and learned how to properly strike with the forefoot. However, I tried training for a marathon and pushed myself too hard after about a year of running in them and I definitely did something to my shin, but I am all good now. I am looking to move from closed toe box to toe socket type shoes now such as these.

      Can they be used on wet ground at all? The autumn and winter weather is approaching. I don’t mind damp feet , but soggy feet in the winter despite not stepping in a puddle erm no thanks. Please advise

    i have the kso evo, im in my 30's and finally got myself these. been using normal running shoes for all my life.
    i have to say its a very nice feeling running in kso evo. i just got them but still its a treat to run again :)
    im tired in new muscles after short runs and building up new feet strength gradually. loving it :)

      I'm 55 and after wrecking my left knee in the late 90's and not being able to run at all, found FF's in July 2012. I ran 27 miles that first week, in a combination of steep local mountain trails, and plain-ol' sidewalks. It was fantastic. Been running in them ever since. I also use New Balance Minimus, and New Balance MT101, depending on how strewn with small rocks the trails around here are. I've been running year round since 2015. My teen daughter and I run rim-to-rim at the Grand Canyon each August to celebrate our birthdays. That is a 24mi morning and we do it in FF "Spyridon" models. We are currently in training for our 5th R2R, and my longest training run right now is 13.1, each week, on the 2 local 1,200' peaks. It's about 8mi of steep trails, and 5 on the sidewalk. I started running back in 7th grade, and it feels great to still get out there!

    I highly recommend giving the EL-X a go. The KSO Evos are basically the EL-X with laces. Same great sole. But an even lighter, more minimal shoe.

    Awesome video and excellent information. I still own my pair of Vibram FiveFingers shoes which I've had for a year now. The ones I have are the trek sport kind. They are ideal for multi-sport and cross training, which they served me well. :) I also ran in them many times.

    Thanks for the review, now I know which vibram pair i should gp for!
    For the last year ive been going from regular shoes to barefoot, I can now hike many hours shoeless!
    I was surprised how reasonably priced the vibram five are, I thought they would be expensive, as many barefoot shoes are..

    I think if I get a 2nd pair, I might opt for the Evo’s. I currently have the classics which I chose mostly due to the tread free sole. Since I plan to wear these daily, I don’t want to have to take them on & off again as I go inside the house. With the treadles soles, I know I won’t trek in mud & dirt that would otherwise get stuck in the treaded models.
    Great comprehensive review! 👏

    Cheers! I just burned through my 3rd pair of v-runs, was doing some research to see if I could get by running with one of their cheaper models as they tend to wear out on me somewhere in the 6-8 month range. I can get the KSO evos for $50 less than the v-runs, and your review convinced me to try them. :)

    Hello! You mention the Sockwa X8s for winter and I have two questions about those. 1) Do they keep your feet dry in snow/rain/slush? I searched for them and all information I find refers to them as "water shoes" (you also call the KSO Evos "water shoes"), but what does that mean? Nobody seems to mention whether or not the Sockwa X8s stay dry or get wet. Do "water shoes" keep water out, or just dry quickly, or something else? 2) They look as if they have narrowish toe "boxes" (albeit sock-like) - do these not squeeze your toes inwards like bad conventional modern footwear? Or are they elastic enough to conform to the shape of your foot and not compress the toes too much?

  • @ingmarpupp

    Super comfortable. After 6 month still looking like new however holes in the fabric between the toes started to appear (in 4 locations).
    I think the fabric is too thin.

    I got mine today. They sent me the women's model and not the men's one. I told them about the mistake they told me it's the same, they are unisex, but I feel them kinda tight even tho I read it's normal for the model. Do I still ask for a replacement? i mean, they fit, but it kinda looks like they are too tight on the sides... I don't know.

    • @runforefoot
      @runforefoot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Thanks for your question :D The shoe should fit snug and 'hug' your foot and not feel tight, so just to be on the safe side, I’d return them because tightness can be bothersome; it may put enormous strain on the top of the foot once those miles start adding up. So, if they look and feel too tight, then I'd say go for the exchange, just to be on the safe side. Your feet will thank you! Let me know how you make out!

      @@letsgetliminal They are small for their size. I ordered a size larger and it's even recommended by some sites for this model. I tried my own size but my foot feels like it's hugged too tight - it feels like they can't 'breathe'.

    Thank you for this informative review. I am preparing to make the transition to Vibrams... hoping you can help guide me with sizing for the kso evo! I wear a men’s 8 running shoe because I feel the wider width is more comfortable for my wide foot. I am a 9 in an every day women’s shoe, but I look for a wider shoe when possible. Any thoughts? How will my high arches feel in these? I find the sizing with Vibrams to be very confusing. Thanks again. Subscribed!

    • @runforefoot
      @runforefoot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for the kind feedback my friend and for subscribing, very much appreciated :D Glad to hear you’re working your way down to the Vibrams! Excellent decision, you’ll love them :D The sizing seems to be a little finicky for many Vibram models mainly because of their glove-like fit. Some Vibram models fit true-to-size, other models don’t. All Vibram sizes are in EU, so if you are a womens 9, your Vibram size would 40EU, or possibly a 42 EU. If you tend to go for the ‘larger’ 9’s because of your foot width, then 42 EU may be the best size for you. As for your high arches, I too have incredibly high arches and I found the materials and structure of the KSO EVO to be in sync with perfectly accommodating to my arch height; it hugs/anchors to your arches without feeling too tight. Not a problem at all! :) Hope this helps. Let me know how you make out!! Thanks again for your question!

    Quite a few large holes developed on your shoes on the outer sides closer to the little toes.
    As a person who do not want to run with my feet soaked, can you tell me:
    1. How long does it take for these holes to develop from new?
    2. Will Vibram cover the repair of these holes? Have you asked them?

    Would you run a marathon in the Evos? I'm debating either my Bakilas or Evos for an upcoming road marathon.

    • @runforefoot
      @runforefoot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Mark! I’ve never ran a marathon in the EVOs. I do ½ marathons in the them and had nothing but great experiences! I like to feel as barefoot as possible! I love to feel the ground because I not only feel more stable, but it helps me get my mechanics in order and keep them in order more sustainably. This is why if I were to run a marathon, I would choose the EVO's because of that constant sensory flow. I don't mind feeling sharp pebbles underneath my feet as they are pretty conditioned to handle that kind of stuff, but if you prefer not to feel every little pebble, you probably may want to wear the Bikila’s for a tad added comfort. But if you're like me, who loves and prefers the sensory assistance, than go with the EVOs :D. Hope this helps! Thanks for your question. I really appreciate it!

    • @markwalsh6714
      @markwalsh6714 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Run Forefoot thanks for the reply it's hugely appreciated. I agree I love the ground feel of the Evo's as I don't mind the feeling of pebbles. In fact they keep me alert on the task in hand and keep me running light. The Bakilas are just a little more padded for any fore foot numbness that comes with the longer distances. But there is not a lot in it. Thanks for the advice. Think I'll go with the Evo's. Love your videos by the way and keep them coming.

    Hi! Such an informative review, I've been looking into getting myself a pair :)
    I'm just interested in knowing how much mileage do you do in ordinary running shoes? And have you found the Evos have improved/ effected your running while in shoes? I'd love to use these maybe twice a week and increase mileage with them gradually, ehile still using my running shoes for other workouts and races :)
    Thanks in advance, Mark^^

    As someone who loves running barefoot, I've looked deeply into both the KSO EVO's and the Furoshiks (both Vibram). Can anyone who has tried both compare them for me? Hopefully someone who has the same goal of running as close to barefoot as possible while maintaining protection of the foot. Does not having the separate toe slots constrict the toes or lower stability? That's the only difference in functional performance I could imagine.

    It would be interesting to see you take an average highschool cross country team and train them to run with the front of their feet to see if it would increase speed and reduce stress and injuries.
    When I ran cross country in highschool we were never taught this. Maybe someone already has, I'd have to look around.
    And what about when your in groups running down steep hills. Can you still control your speed as easily when running with the front of your feet when you're stuck behind someone?
    Also, what happens when you're running in grass and hit a hole left by a ground hog which happens a lot on cross country courses?
    I think the funniest thing that ever happened to me in a cross country race was that I landed on a hornet's nest and stirred them up. I hear a bunch of commotion behind me and I look around to see this swarm of hornet's attacking the runners behind me. I was like oops, my bad...lol

      I have done exactly what you are asking about. My daughter joined her HS XC team as a freshman in 2013, and she'd already been in FF's since 7th grade, and did 8th grade track in them. She ran year round in HS, competing both XC and Track. In XC, she trained and raced in the FF's until she got too fast for them (they are not a particularly fast shoe), and then raced in New Balance Minimus' and also racing flats. I trained and ran with her, developing her speed to the point that she successfully competed all distances in track, including the 100m, where she was #1/#2 in League as a Freshman, and as a Sophomore, was fast enough to be on the 4x100, which had 3 Seniors racing on it. During time in HS, I started privately coaching some of the worst kids on the teams, both boys and girls, and anyone who listened and followed the program, not only got into the top 5, but they were usually chasing the 3rd spot. One girl in particular went from crying the first race of her Junior XC season, and placing last on the team, to by the end of Track season 6mos later, she was side-by-side with our top Senior girl. The following year, she was untouchable on the girl's team, and faster than all but maybe the top 2 or 3 boys. My program consists of getting the athlete SAFELY transitioned into FF's, fixing remaining running form issues that are not "automatically" taken care of by getting out of tradition shoes and the heel strike they promote/cause, and then we work on mental strategy, nutrition, and "how to" race. Shoes are a tool, they are not a religion. So anyone training with my assistance uses a combination of different shoes, depending on what they are doing: FF's, New Balance Minimus, New Balance MT101, racing flats by various manufacturers. The kids I worked with all came to me injured and doing very poorly. Their injuries heeled, and they got very fast. We used to play, "Who's faster than the 50 year old (me)."
      With regard to your questions about downhill control, and what happens on uneven surfaces, or holes, or let's say, raised mounds, or boulders, etc. When you are in a "barefoot" style shoe, your feet transmit a continuous terrain map to the brain. This makes your balance almost cat-like! Downhill control is a non-issue, but this is also a place were FF's are just not as fast as a shoe with more protection, like a racing flat. But I'm talking about real racing, and not just going out for a run. The FF's are fine for normal running and "moderate" skill level racing. But they are not fast enough for top racers. The "barefoot" and the shoe that allows the mapping to occur, create a foot, and an entire body, that is able to respond to wicked terrain changes in an instant. Rolled ankles seldom happen, but when they do, they are nothing more than a large wobble in the stride, the body has already corrected itself, and off you go.....thinking, "Holy cow, how did I not just destroy my ankle on that?"
      There is no drawback to the minimalist or barefoot shoe, other than how respectfully and "safely" the user makes the transition into them. People that get hurt in them, blame the shoe, and rarely will they admit that their use of the shoe was improper.

    I could watch your running form forever. Beautiful! Also, I'm very curious what's your technique like on 'the inside' of your body, ehm, what I mean is: how do you build your movement? So far I tried forefoot landing and it's comfortable barefoot, but I recently met a barefoot marathon runner who sais you should indeed land forefoot (or almost flat) and then let your heel bounce with a thud. So no shielding your heels from a thud because that overuses your calves. So far I've been trying to walk 'soundless', but he's like: no no no make a thud. I'm very curious about your technique and your thoughts on this. Thank you for the review! I'll pick my KSO Evos up next week :-) Finally, running again!

    • @Barrrt
      @Barrrt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess my question amounts to your opinion on how hard to make your heel land. And how do you make your body do that. I realize these are youtube comments and not running Q&A's so I completely understand if this comment remains unanswered. You probably answer it somewhere else and I should google first. I'm just really curious and I can't hold the question in :-)
      The marathon runner also mentioned that 'real' forefoot running is very good during sprinting, but you just blow out your calves if you do it long distance. His technique is now to try to get most of the pressure of your forefoot. Anways, thanks for looking at this if you did and otherwise, thanks for the review! Stay awesome. Warm regards from the Netherlands.
