I love watching this, it reminds me of when I drove a truck. Nowadays, my eyesight is too bad to have a CDL. This is heaven for an old truck driver like me.
Paesaggi lunari, così estremamente diversi dalla mia Italia tutta diversa, tutta ricca di Storia , con montagne e laghi e tanto mare e fiori e alberi....e Sole. Il Mondo è meravigliosamente vario.
In the 80's there was on television at the closing time of a channel jazz music playing while a car was driving in the city. It always captivated my attention and could not stop watching. This has the same effect on me. It reaches something inside of me that I cannot explain. In my best attempt to describe this... Melancholy with nostalgia, well being with a feeling of confusion. A different sense of reality. As if the consciousness we are familiar with was incomplete. This music is an experience to be lived. The footage allows the mind to create its own journey into a dimention that exists only in the imagination which I wish could be shared. But I understand that everyone's experience is unique.

This is a generative extract, they used these sounds in their new song Óveður. However I think this extract is better than the actual released song. :) So mysterious and strange, yet relaxing.
Sigur Ros really is the best. I'll admit when I first heard this I was slightly dismayed at the lack of action in this music compared to their other works. But I decided to put this on while writing a short story I've been trying to finish and I blitzed right though the writers block I had and sailed straight to the ending. They really have music for every mood/activity.
@@guillervz nowhere. Still unpublished lol. But I'm glad there are others out there who have found that Sigur ros is the reliable freight train that tramples writers block. Is your writing available anywhere?
Whoa! At 1:01:02 there is a bus stop across the street that I sat at when I visited Iceland. So cool to see these things and be able to recognize/remember them.
I've just gotten back from a week in Iceland and I'm watching this with tears in my eyes. It is a land like no other and I'm glad I had Sigur Rós with me on my journey. A part of my heart and soul will always be there. Peace and love to all.
watching this four years after viewing it live...... what an experience it was! i love how there are fans/friends of the band popping up along the route, waving
I was listening to Sigur Rós and I was thinking "it'd be nice to watch a video of someone driving the ring road with this music" and then this came up. Takk!
I loved driving in Iceland back in 2014. It felt like a book story or a movie. This video brings me back in time and I would totally do it all over again.
Oh bloody great.. I just did Route 1 last year... one year too early apparently. Now I have to bloody go back and do it all over again.. with this running in the background.. 👌 ツ
I gave up coding many years ago, but this would have been a brilliant background to help me get through Sunday night trying to find a solution so that all the systems would be working by Monday morning. I feel that my frequent episodes of panic would have been significantly diminished by the presence of this soundtrack.
My wife and I drove this very road all the way, and it is without a doubt, the most beautiful place in the world. We rented a camper (van) and just drove, stopping to sleep at campsites, and to enjoy all the amazing sites. So amazing. We camped near Akureyri, where we first saw the northern lights. We will be going back, maybe even to live there one day if we're lucky ;) --we didn't play this song, but did listen to a lot of sigur ros on the road.
lack of personal time and issues I've not been able to immerse myself in this fully.. but by God I have been missing out?! it's truly beautiful, ambient and sour ros at their most relaxed and peaceful. I could watch this and loose myself in it forever. I'm so glad I found this band.. one that i shall take to the grave.
Sigur Ros, the Route One video is spectacular. It is the closest thing to an audiovisual "mantra". I am a psychologist and I have used it with patients with anxiety and it has been very helpful for them to calm down. I admire them and congratulate them. I have the dream of visiting Iceland next year. A hug from Argentina.
I only discovered about the live transmission very late and so was only able to see it for the last hour or so. I was entranced and have been impatiently waiting for the whole performance to be available. I expect it to take me some days to watch it all! It is rare to find music which so successfully evocates the landscape. Those that I know of are of classical music from many years ago such as Hamish Maccunn, Sibelius, Smetana and Edward Elgar. I am sure that there are many others that I have not yet discovered. This is the first that I have found which is not of classical music genre. This is as good any of the above examples, with the almost minimalist style well suiting the views of the Icelandic landscape which can show little variation over large areas. It demonstrates beautifully that an apparent monotonous landscape can still be beautiful, and helps one concentrate on the tiny differences that occur between apparently similar locations. I have never visited Iceland but this performance makes me wish to do so. I am sure that there are many other areas in the world that would be equally applicable for similar projects by indigenous musicians expressing what they feel about their homeland. The possibilities are endless, but my personal preference would be to hear productions of this type from Chile/Bolivia/Peru, Indonesia/Philippines or from the arctic areas of Canada or Siberia. I would welcome any comments on my choices.
i'll be honest: it is incredibly strange to see iceland without ice, because when i visited it was quite literally in the middle of winter around christmas, and everything was covered with a thick layer of snow and ice. i remember walking out of the airport in reykjavik around 10pm and getting SLAMMED with a wall of the coldest wind i'd ever felt in my life. iceland is still the coldest place i've visited, but simultaneously the most beautiful. i came here mostly because i wanted to remember the experience - driving along route 1 in the beautiful but empty land of snow and ice and lava fields, watching the mountains approach and pass us by, miles upon miles spent with nothing but silence and the soft radio.
Love the idea. Sigur Ros as the capability of surprising us bringing something new. For me, as an ambient music listner this is amazing combining a travell in the Beautifull contry of Iceland to long form ambient soundtrack. 👏🏻
2:33:41 So, there's a lot of grass to mow there in Iceland? Does it grow real tall if it's only cut once or twice a year? Is that your driveway we pass at 2:33:52?

I've watched the 3 videos of this virtual road trip several times and also followed along on Google maps; closest I could get to being there ... but it was very cool. I was also very depressed at the time; watching this and listening to the awesome music helped me overcome it; I'll always be grateful that Sigur Ros did this and shared it with everyone!
In Iceland having a wooden spoon in your kitchen must be considered a luxury, judging by the lack of trees in this video. Having said that, the landscape in last 30 minutes are just breath taking.
Raw beauty, mystique landscapes and Scandinavians are especially talented in Art, Design, Architecture and City Planning. There is something so special about Scandinavian countries and the People. I love it there!!
It's like watching a 24 hr coach bus training video with the only difference of a life-changing track that flashes your entire life before your very eyes. Also the fact that Iceland is so beautiful too!!
who does this? true artists. i mean i don't even know how practical it is to sit through this whole thing but the general sense of the experience is massive and original. To think it was being streamed in iceland TV and live on here. To have so many people join in at any time to see where in Iceland that were at the time is awesome. not to mention the ability to make 10 hours straight of music. ha, this is great.
Brings back amazing memories of travelling through the landscape; albeit I went in winter. Would love to rent a car and travel further afield in the summer.

Sigur Ros are pure genius. Their music is from another world…
I think they are aliens on disguise.
made me think Jónsi _is_ the alien and then Georg and Orri (and Kjarri and Águst) are just humans but with incredible instrumental intellect
And that world is Jonsi's brain!
actually they are elves
Yep, Iceland! Truly another world!!
I drove on these roads on my holiday in Iceland, it was truly amazing.
me too, i kinda spent my birthday there driving a couple of days, it's goddamn magic
This is Jonsi's commute to the studio every day, he is very dedicated.
