    Li Wen, I practice spotting on the Travelling Chaine Spin Chasse Series ("2 3 4 and 1"), where I do a traveling single spin on the "2 3", and I do a much faster travelling extra spin on the "4 and 1" to help me spot better.
    As you guessed it, this timing is used in Rhythm AND International Cha-Cha!
    i used this cha-cha spin sequence at the Cyclone Classic in 2006 (Iowa State University, collegiate dance competition) with partner Dawn Voelker, in an advanced chase sequence. That move allowed me to go to the final heat in American cha-cha! YEA!!! Yea. I know spotting as much as you do!!!!

    Spotting is something that I keep seeing when looking for ways to not get dizzy while spinning, but when I try it I still get really dizzy. Am I doing something wrong?

    • @DanceInsanity
      @DanceInsanity  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hello Daleemioh! If you're getting dizzy, that actually means that although you're trying to spot, but you're actually not keeping your eyes completely on one spot while u turn. A tip is to put a big Mark (like an "X") on the wall/ mirror and don't take your eyes off the center of that "X" at all during your spin. Hope that helps? Be patient and keep practicing!

      @@DanceInsanity Update: The spotting is still very hard haha. I've been practicing daily and also tried it in dance class (which went horribly). I have to do 4 spins in 4 counts in Paso Doble (I'm really bad at explaining it, sorry) and i only get to 1.5 spins in 4 counts lolol. how do I get faster at spinning?

    I am a man who is learning to turn. I also dance Argentine tango, where almost every turn and pivot is is initiated with upper body twist. So I am applying that technique to Salsa cross body turn with good success. However, the idea of turn/spin initiated by upper body’s twist seems to be contrary to the concept of spotting, because you want the head to be the last to turn :). So when you start to turn but lock lock you head for spotting, that will make it impossible to initiate the turn by the upper body, right? If so what part of the body do you use to initiate the turn? Hope it is not the the hip :)

    • @DanceInsanity
      @DanceInsanity  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello @chance8yes! Interesting question. You can definitely lock your head and still initiate body turn. The start of the turn can be initiated by using the torso, shoulders and/or arms. Even the legs, hips, foot can be used as well. Commonly, everything works together. 😉 Focus on using what seems more intuitive to you at first to create a counter twist - perhaps the shoulders??

    • @chance8yes
      @chance8yes 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi LiWen, initiating the turn with the torso and shoulders, that is the same as using the upper body. Thanks for the confirmation! I guess I just need to start get used to turning the upper body first while everything else (e.g., the head and the hip) stay behind. So the order of the turn goes like this: upper body first, followed with hip and lower body, the head turns the last. Very interesting! Thanks for the answer.

      @chance8yes You're so welcome! Just note that the hips and legs will go at the same time (ie: keep them stacked) Let me know how it goes with the practicing. :))
