Beach farm is beautiful and I like that it encourages you to spend time on the farm instead of always hustling in the mines. You said it's not good for casual players but I think it's the exact opposite-- sucks for optimizers but very nice for someone who just wants to farm and play with their animals instead of trying to become an ancient fruit wine mogul.

Beach farm sounds like it’s great for mid level players. Newbies would probably get overwhelmed and veterans would probably despise the no sprinklers, so it kinda hits that spot in the middle.

but consider for the riverland farm: it looks amazing at night. when it gets dark, the water starts to look kinda like its bioluminescent. plus, if youre not good at decorating, the small chopped up lands of the island make it so its not as overwhelming when you try to decorate

Hardwood tip for people not on the Forest farm: if you complete the dangerous mines Qi quest, a shrine of challenge will appear on floor 120 of the mines. If you activate it, hardwood stumps and mahogany trees will appear on levels 40 to 70 similar to how big rocks normally spawn. You can grind hardwood similar to how iron is normally grinded using this method

In defence of the beach farm: deluxe retaining soil means you only have to water tiles once per season, and the sprinklerable tiles provide a decent amount of higher quality crops. The insane amount of space also allows for more focus on barn animals which I find kinda cool.

I had the beach farm as my first ever farm, at first I was very confused on why I couldn't use sprinklers, but honestly I quickly realised the "farming" part of stardew valley is the most boring part. I have pigs as my main income source. And now that I have the ginger island, I can do all my farming there. Still, I didn't feel like I struggled in the game by not farming. It was fun, and I still think the beach farm's aesthetic is by far the best.

I've since gotten perfection on all the layouts except standard and hilltop and i'd actually argue that once you reach the midgame and know how to get the resources you need, the farm type is pretty arbitrary. Considering there is a shrine in the Witch's Hut that can turn the monster spawns off and on with any farm, the Wilderness farm kinda lacks uniqueness at this point. I do like its aestethetics, and I much prefer the option to fish for Mountain Lake fish on the farm, but I can understand it not standing out anymore.
I like the Beach Farm to challenge myself in trying strategies other than crops, but in terms of preference, I kinda just fall back on the standard farm. Was right there with ya until you put the beach farm in the worst tier. I love the beach farm because it gives you ocean fish right next to your house and for me in the early game it's super nice and convenient since the beach is literally the farthest fishing area from your house and you need a lot of fish from there and they're usually very profitable. Plus the beach farm has an area for sprinklers and it gets beach forageables and crates with goodies. So all the best things.

Here's why the beach layout is my favorite.
Right after my first casual playthrough, I grew a bad habit. I always tend to min-max, try to make millions of G as soon as possible and loose touch with a lot of game mechanics, and just fun aspects of the game. Restricting myself to 202 sprinkler-able tiles, means I can't rely on crops alone, (because let's be honest, who wants to water 2000 crops everyday).
The beach layout managed to calm my hardcore optimizations. I tend to engage more with npcs, ain't annoyed by small errands like hardwood farming in the secret Grove, stopped mining everyday during the first months/years, etc...
Apart from that, I believe it's such a beautiful layout, the beach scenery really fits this game play, and I pulled off my most stunning farms here.
I encourage any player that want something new because they experienced the same trap that is min-maxing. The game will feel different. It's another way of having fun, and won't please every type of players, but it's worth a try!

An actual good use for the area you pointed out on the Hilltop farm for "what are you going to put here" is the rice plants since it's within range of water to not be watered. It's a spring only crop but hey, it's a very good use for the area. I wouldn't say it changes the rating of the farm but just some input on what you can actually do with that space. Later game too it's a good spot for Silos if you plan to have animals.
As for the beach farm you can actually very easily overcome the weakness of no sprinklers by rushing pigs and tapping pine trees to build rain totems and the crops you can do are insane with that. Easy B tier in my personal opinion.
Nice video though, love hearing opinions on different farm types.

I picked Riverland for my first playthrough and I really liked it. I don't understand the comments that say it is hard to achieve perfection on it? I think it's a great farm in the endgame because you have ginger island for more crops if you so desire and you don't need to have extensive crops on your land because you have your ancient fruit wine set up by that point. Another great thing about it is you don't need to build fences at all. I never understood the appeal of the golden clock because my animals were nicely penned in by the maps' water set up. I really like water features and little bridges, so it's my cup of tea. I'm not super into huge design set ups (which would be the only reason I would advise against the farm). Just put sheds with garden pots and the best water fertilizer (tier 3). And if you don't have enough to have like 6 big sheds full of products that you don't need to water, you also have Ginger Island farm and the greenhouse.

Guess it depends on your playing style. I don't plant massive amounts of crops usually. On the beach farm I don't mind watering by hand for the first couple of seasons until I can clear out the logs in the area that does take sprinklers. I generally get the greenhouse unlocked as soon as possible, and between that and the farmland area I have plenty of space for crops with sprinklers. The beach farm is great for animals. I never run out of grass or hay. Also on the beach farm you can find forage items, the fishing is better than on most farms, and the supply crates that wash up contribute a significant advantage especially in providing cooking materials. There's lots of space to plant trees, especially mahogany trees for hardwood. Pretty soon you have the Ginger Island farm to plant ridiculous amounts of ancient seeds or starfruit on to make wine, and by that time who cares about planting on the beach. On the whole, the beach farm and forest farm each have certain advantages and I think they balance out pretty much. But I do like the beach farm's open spaces. Recently I have gotten to like the four corners farm quite a lot too.

Beach farm may lack sprinklers but - deluxe retaining soil, ginger island can't have buildings so you could just fill up the beach farm with coops/barns, fruit trees don't need to be watered so you can make a massive orchard. The beach farm is totally massive and you get crates that wash up as well as forage - both beach and forest in the different parts. In my opinion the beach farm is well worth it and is my favourite farm type. The only one I really don't get is the wilderness farm since in the game settings you can turn the monsters on your farm on/off in settings. It just makes no real sense. Also UGH riverlands was my first farm and I regret everything, there's no space at all!

The river land farm was my second and such a relief to be limited to small crop field! I had way more fun, and loved being able to run out behind the house to catch a few fish right before bed time. Loved it. But not a big money maker.

Four corners is definitely my favorite farm to play on. It makes keeping your stuff organized so much easier. Plus since it's broken uo into spaces, unlike standard farm, it doesn't feel pverwhelming to work with.

That's why it's my favorite. I honestly think it's amazing to decorate, I've had a ton of fun just decorating it. Like I've got one corner for animals/fish ponds, one corner for farming, one corner with sheds full of processing machines, and then the farmhouse corner is just decorative :)

    Hilltop Farm:
There's a HUGE natural fenced area for animals right beneath your house, so it's nice for that. The area up near your house (build a well...) is easily enough crops. The Hilltop Farm is more for people who want to get access to ore ASAP, and for people who wanna do mostly animals and only a little actual crop farming. The area just beneath that fenced area works good for a grove of fruit trees, and the rest of the farm? eh, do whatever with it. It's not that hard to navigate if you remember that until you get the axe to remove the logs and stumps, you go south, cross the river and go south again. I rather like it, it's my 2nd favorite.
    Beach Farm:
Wow, you are _completely missing the point_ of this farm. It's a rancher's heaven. Grass naturally spawns and grows all over the beach. Basically, you build up your barns and coops, let grass grow all over the sand (lol), and then you can have some perennial crops in the sprinkler area, and lastly, use the obelisks to teleport between house and sprinkler area (which also puts you close to the southern exit) and that solves the size of the farm.
Also, there's not a whole lot in terms of actual obstacles early-game which is _really freaking nice_ as you don't have to try to navigate around ludicrous numbers of huge boulders, huge logs, and stumps.

I have a personal bias towards the Riverland farm. It was the first farm I've ever played on, and I actually really love the layout. It makes it so much easier for me to section off certain parts of my farm, like trees, animals, planting flowers, and the rest is dedicated to tilling and planting crops. I really love the aesthetic of the Riverland farm more than anything. Of course, everyone's entitled to their own opinion and has their own preferences. It probably wasn't at all a good farm to start on when I had never played the game before, but I'm attached to it.

My favorite farm is the Four Corners one, also. I like the layout, including where the dog/cat is located. I usually set everything up in the top right corner in the beginning (crops in front of the house, and a barn, coop, silo, and fish pond to the left of the house. Then I go to Robin's and move it all where I want it later. Saves time in the early game that way.

My favorite too. It's really fun and has great design possibilities. At the same time it's still easy to navigate and has plenty of farm space. I enjoy the monsters popping up for a little variety while farming at night. Free seeds means some free extra crops to sell in the early game, and batwings are great for crafting lightning rods. It's a nicely balanced farm to play on in terms of function versus aesthetics in my experience. Kinda a meme at this point that folks bash it while admitting they haven't really played on it. Lol. If you never explore what a layout can offer, of course you won't see the value in it.

When I first started playing, standard was the only option, so my oldest file: 16 years, is standard, but everything feels kind of crammed in. Ever since 4 corners was introduced, I play on that. I really enjoy the symmetry. With the crop/sprinkler layout I use, I can fit 8 fields(around 150 crops per field), with plenty of room for every building Robin offers.

I actually totally disagree for the beach farm (agreed for the new player/casual play strugles), it's my personal fav :)
All this space was a blessing for what i wanted to do. Animals and ponds on the top left, a gigantic Tea farm with junimo huts on top right, seasonal crops and bees on the bottom left and last but not least, the biggest and better organized orchard i ever created on the bottom right.
Obviously, all this is not the most profitable outcome possible but its the coolest i ever made and the early challenge of doing without sprinklers or even crops themselves was just incredibly interresting

I feel like I'm the only riverland farm stan, but i also wanted a challenge and don't really care about aesthetics. You can make things look orderly. If you dont care about decorations, you'll profit a ton off this area, especially in the early game. I suggest just spreading out your buildings with the other stuff in between it and make yourself very narrow and easy to navigate paths. Its a farm you use for profit not for looks, so I think that's why it can throw people off from using it.

The riverland farm is really bad for farming, and you can't do much, but its really good for fishing. I was always so bad at fishing I couldn't be bothered half the time, but I tried the river Farm and I ended up fishing all the time. instead of fishing being my lowest, it ended up maxing before the 1st year even ended.
so for new players, esp those who find fishing annoying and want to get the hang of it without having to leave your farm and get distracted, its really good to get you used to fishing!

Riverland farm is actually pretty good for ranchers, since all you need to put down are Gates for animals. The water acts as a permanent fence. On the mountain farm, it's best to put the barn and coop in the area near the river, since the river acts as a fence. I use the Wilderness farm for my spelunker. Also, the Beach Farm does have certain areas in it that you CAN put sprinklers on. Just not on the sand tiles. That farm is best for gathering fish roe or raising animals on. So, where does the Meadowland Farm run on the tier list?

  • @TeaUnicorn

  • @mushroomsoup2866
    @mushroomsoup2866 ปีที่แล้ว +5

The beach farm definitely feels a lot more relaxed imo. There is no real way to get to the point where you're filling the entire map with kegs, and even if you have one cheese press/mayonnaise machine per animal, that's like 12 machines per barn or coop. It does definitely fit the vibe of "you've moved onto grandpa's old farm to relax"
Plus, once you set up a mini obelisk on each end, you can just ignore huge swaths of the beach. I have half my farm just as a tapped forest, and I don't even need to navigate through it. It's great.
The only minor thing that really bugs me about the beach farm is that there are barely any tiles where you can grow rice next to water, which is insane because it's literally surrounded by ocean. All those slightly darker sand tiles? Yea, can't use those because crates might spawn there.

My very first farm was the beach farm and I love that farm but the sprinkler thing is the only thing that sours the fun especially when you play for longer and start planting more crops
