Warning from the same album is pure fire and features a stunning improvised guitar solo from Tony Iommi some have said it's Hendrix level, it was improvised to save time as the band recorded the whole album in just 12 hours to save studio time cost, the song is a cover from a little known band called The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation, their version is also pretty good too, Aynsley is a pretty good drummer and has worked with Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, John Mayall, David Bowie, UFO, Journey and Whireshnake.

Black Sabbath. As a young teen discovering rock, it was fascinating to me that this group made a song that went, “I am Ironman!” and the boys in our group always played the riff. Hearing them now reminds me of those times. I bought Paranoid, but then it was Led Zeppelin that captured me.
Mr. Moo is a great sidekick! 😀

Wow Lee! You've really never heard this? How much Sabbath do you know? It's imperative, as a rock and roll rebel, that you learn at least the first six records. 😉✌️ Until then, "Misty morning, clouds in the sky. Without warning, a wizard walks by...." 🤘

Hey...ya know, like you, OZZY loved John Lennon and as hard as he went, he listened to Beatles at the end of the day. We all learned from them.

Ozzy blowin some harp. Too much. Great song. After having read The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien, Geezer penned The Wizard as a tribute to Gandalf. Fun reaction. Do more Sabbath man! Do this whole debut album, you won't be disappointed.

I'd completely forgotten the harmonica!! My friend and neighbour introduced me to this one and 'Paranoid', probably 'Masters of Reality' too. Kinda embryonic yet identifiably Black Sabbath. Bill was a monster and something of a revelation from the first, Tony the riff-master and rock-crusher with Geezer holding down a big bottom, Ozzy howling over top. Dark fun.

What an incredible debut album, and one of their very best songs. Bill Ward's drumming always stands out, and he used a 'minimalist' set back then. Ozzie's voice sounded a bit different on that first album. Great, just different.I can still remember hearing this album for the first time and being blown away after the first song - 'Wicked World'. BTW, if you havent already done that one you should. One of my favorite songs period, let alone favorite Sabbath songs.

What a cover iconic pic on the front then inside the gate fold this poem the album then starts with thunder, rain and a tolling bell
Still falls the rain, the veils of darkness shroud the blackened trees, which, contorted by some unseen violence, shed their tired leaves, and bend their boughs toward a gray earth of severed bird wings.
Among the grasses, poppies bleed before a gesticulating death, and young rabbits, born dead in traps, stand motionless, as though guarding the silence that surrounds and threatens to engulf all those that would listen.
Mute birds, tired of repeating yesterdays terrors, huddle together in the recesses of dark corners, heads turned from the dead, black swan that floats upturned in a small pool in the hollow.
There emerges from this pool a faint, sensual mist, that traces its way upwards to caress the feet of the headless martyr's statue whose only achievement was to die too soon, and who couldn't wait to loose.
The cataract of darkness forms fully, the long black night begins, yet still by the lake a young girl waits. Unseeing she believes herself unseen, she smiles faintly at the distant tolling bell, and the still falling rain."

I was laughing when I heard this. I'm 71. When this album came out we had already been listening to guitar virtuosos like Clapton, Page, Hendrix and Blackmore. I thought Sabbath were really unsophisticated and too simple. Yeah really. How stupid was I. I love heavy riffs. Tony was the king of the heavy riff. Geezer and Bill were a fantastic rhythm section. And not much that hasn't already been said about Ozzie. I know it's not from this album but if you want to truly hear what I mean, listen to the live version of Children of the Grave, recorded in Birmingham, unfortunately without Bill Ward. It was from "the last tour." Play it LOUD.
