I am 62 and grew up with Sabbath. This was always my favourite album, maybe because it was the first one I bought. It's a master class in drumming from Bill Ward and super funky. One of the top 10 rock albums of all time.
This album shows Sabbath's continued evolution as the songs reveal a new level of sophistication. "Killing Yourself to Live" and "Spiral Architect" also stand as some of their finest work.
A really evocative song, together with Spiral Architect. This album is chock full of bangers! Killing Yourself to Live is the one I listen to the most.
Geezer wrote the lyrics. He said the title refers to sperm and conception..saying those guys have to be acrobats to get to the egg. Song is about life from conception to death and the afterlife all in pursuit of happiness.

1973 - what a fantastic time to be 12 years old! I bought this album and Selling England by the Pound by Genesis on the same day and barely left my room for a week. :)
God I love this song. I love Bills drumming when the track goes up tempo. I quite often catch myself air drumming to that bit. It's a big call but I think it's my favourite Sabbath track with Ozzy. Watching this has reminded me I haven't played the album for a few months, that's tomorrow at work sorted. All the best lads, I enjoy what you do 👍

Such an incredible sound, love that slow grind at the beginning. And Che’s little smile a few seconds in was priceless! I can certainly relate. It’s amazing how music can move us deeply. I always love it when I’m listening to some great rock and realize I have a huge involuntary smile. This album will do that to you.
The last two songs on this album really shows their artistic side. So much melody in Ozzys vocals. Looking forward to it. FYI. Rick Wakemen does keybords on Sabbra Cadabbra.

Man, this song is dope! Is a B-Side but is one of my favorites of Sabbath. This album is amazing, sometimes I put this in my top-1 from them, but I'm always changing my mind about which one is the best, because there are at least 5 albuns which would be debatable. From this album, Sabbra Cadabbra, Killing Yourself to Live and Spiral Architect are another 3 "musts" if you're looking to get to know the band's discography in depth. But I'd pay attention to Fluff, too. A beautiful acoustic instrumental track.
More peak Ozzy and it continues through Sabotage. The beginnings of Prog Metal. I love your album by album song by song reactions, its truly the only way to appreciate the rise of Metal through its progenitors.
Ozzy sounds like an oracle on a mountain top delivering his message to the masses of thousands below with a background of heavenly music coming from the clouds behind him. I’m just saying.
It just occurred to me that the guitar tone in the intro riff of this song is a bit like Brian May's guitar tone at the time. Just listen to the Queen 1 & 2 albums which were released around about the same time. Nonetheless, I appreciate this song very much.
A few people have been commenting that you guys won't like this album, and we've been going back and forth with me saying both of you will really like it!! Maybe more songs than others, but this album a Gem to me!!! So far I'm winning the argument!
If you want to see a couple of amazing guitar solo's , amazing drums and bass check out Ozzy Osbourne's Mr. Crowley Live with Randy Rhoads. Might want to google Aleister Crowley because the song is about him. You won't be disappointed. Randy Rhoads was the best EVER in my view but he only played on two albums. He died at the age of 25 while on tour with Ozzy in a tragic plane crash .You should read about that too. Would love to see your reaction.
Next stop, Fluff. A nice tune, but the one after that....Sabbra Cadabra is another Epic Sabbath tune. Che was looking a little tipsy on this one, one too many Che? 👀

This is a 3 piece band, with a vocalist. Ain't no freakin rhythm section....just a KICK ASS guitarist!
Perfectly put. Geezer is insane, but often it's Tony and Bill playing off each other. Not even a keyboard to smooth things over.
