Rich Rod should have NEVER left WVU. Back when EA used to make the NCAA Football video game, WVU was my go to team during this time. That 3-3-5 defense gave the players that cheesed certain offenses total fits and I loved their offense! Pro set, triple option and pro set, Play action F-slide were my bread and butter plays.
Was fantastic in person! Those poor GA fans were dumbfounded by the fact that their squad won the mighty SEC yet couldn't beat some scrub from the lowly Big East
This game and the south beach smack down when Geno and Austin absolutely embarrassed Clemson are my go to videos to get pumped for another blue and gold season
I have a friend who's a big Georgia fan and I'm a longtime diehard WVU fan. Before the game he was busting my chops about the Big Least but I just sat there quietly since I had a feeling White and Slaton were gonna give them fits....and they did. When the score was 28-0 my friend just sat there with a stunned look on his face...it was priceless.
Wasnt it?? I was a hardcore football fan in my youth, graduated HS in 2005 so like 2000-2010 college football was the best. I still watch today but I dont know, I dont really get all excited anymore. Maybe i guess cus im grown up now but when two Top 5 teams played, that was must-see TV for me back then. Now I barely notice when two Top 5 teams play
Dawgs fan rewatching. I think i suppressed the memory of this loss. Ha. But damn White and Slaton were a heck of a duo. That Rich Rod offense. Whew! Gotta give props
Only Saban's second season. He didn't change anything. It just took him another season to get up to speed. Another thing about this game is that Bama top 5 draft pick sat out at last minute. Bama didn't have depth they'd soon have in this game. And the freshman that took this top fiver's place rolled ankle in first qtr. After that, announcers said that only one of five Bama OL that started the game were in same position as when game began. O-line chaos ensued and no offensive answers could get off launch pad the rest of the game. That, combined with 21 pts in first 7:20 (Bama pitifully unprepared), too much to overcome.
@@nathaniellathy6559how about when Georgia had a "Blackout" game where they wore the black jerseys against Alabama in Nick Sabans 2nd or 3rd season and Bama smacked them around, between the Hedges lol
@@billblaski9523 True. Some still wonder to this day what the heck the GA defense was doing with a prevent defense at the 50 yard line on that WVU fake punt. Also, the GA defense didn't respect the speed WVU had. Fastest backfield in the country or in in ncaa history at both qb and rb were 4.3 40 yard dash.
14 f%$kin years ago dawg! I was a freshman in college and was watching this at my girlfriends house, i had taken a xanax and was just chilling, watching this game, i thought i was dreaming this game up until i saw the box scores the next morning lol
Dang we all thought Steve Slaton was gonna be a superstar RB in the NFL after he had a great rookie season. Just don't know what happened after that, did he get too big a head and didnt work as hard? We'll never know
Slaton's worst mistake, and he did it for his junior year at WVU and his second season in the NFL, was bulking up to make himself bigger and stronger but in the process his crazy lateral speed and quickness took a significant hit. Check out their '06 game against Maryland and compare it to any of their games in '07 when he got bigger.
I'm a fan of the Louisville Cardinals and the Kentucky Wildcats but I enjoyed watching West Virginia ,Pat White, and Steve Slayton in 2005 and 2006. During that time frame the Big East had 2 really good football programs who both won a BCS Bowl West Virginia beating Georgia (Sugar Bowl) in 2005-2006 season and Louisville beating Wake Forest (Orange Bowl) in 2006-2007 season.
One of Richt's classic out of conference embarrassments. I love the WVU player at end who said WVU's "speed" was the difference...over Georgia? Doubt it. Shitty coaching against out of conference, maybe? Uh...yeh. Sleep walk one half and can't be stopped in other half. That was classic emotionally undisciplined Richt effort that hamstrung him in achieving glory in his many years there.
They came storming back for sure! Made this a game! DJ Shockley was such an underrated QB, he sat behind David Greene for like 4 years instead of transferring and starting somewhere else. This was his season to shine
Tait Wagner the only reason Rodriguez left for Michigan was because the idiot administration wouldn’t give him a extension. He turned down Alabama the year before.
Those WVU teams from 2005-07 were fun to watch.
Dawg u speaking truth! Me and my friends would have to flip coins or rock-paper-scissors when playing the game to see who could play as West Virginia.
Too bad they choked against Pitt in '07.
@afridgetoofar1818 😂 but to be fair everyone choked that season, how many #2 teams lost that season?
@@afridgetoofar1818all they had to do to get to the national championship game was beat a 3-7 Pittsburgh team

the whole '05-'06 BCS was one of the best honestly
21-0 in the first quarter, everyone was shocked! Georgia came storming back tho, made this a great game!
WVU coming out party for sure! Pat White and Steve Slaton were raw AF in NCAA football game!

That SEC speed wasn’t fast enough to keep up with Pat White and Steve Slaton

ESPN took a lot of joy out of college football
Agreed. Obviously the current playoff format is better than the BCS format, but the style of football back then was better.
@@KB7488 ESPN is the reason there's been so much conference realignment. That will degraded college football in my opinion.
I'm born and raised in West Virginia. I loved watching Georgia fans after WVU scored in 20 seconds because our offense was full of track stars lmao

This Sugar Bowl was at the Georgia Dome so it was pretty much a de facto home game for the Bulldogs!
Made the Georgia loss 📉 all the more remarkable. Like when Texas beat Georgia in the 2019 Sugar Bowl

Pat White was just unreal!!!
Now that's mountaineer football. Wish we had it today.
What? You don't trust the climb?
He didn't say which way we were climbing tho did he?
I miss rich rod so bad
DJ Shockley one of the most underrated QBs ever in NCAA history. Man could have started on any other team but sat behind David Greene for 4 years!
My all-time favorite WVU moment
RR got a lot of praise for his offense but the late Calvin manager was a very good OC
Greg Blue spent the week trash talking West Virginia, then 60 minutes watching the Mountaineers run all over him and the Georgia defense.
Give the Bulldogs credit, they came storming back tho and made it a game!

Hurt his hands and couldn't hold onto the ball like he wanted. I think also knee and leg injuries limited his mobility.
