Top tip indeed, gives you a chance to give it a good scrub.
I tried to open my cassette top this afternoon and it was seized and I abandoned ship before one of the plastic pieces broke. I consulted YT and came across your video demonstration of the exact same thing I was trying to achieve. Magic. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Hi Rob. Delighted you found our video useful and managed to open it successfully. Many thanks for watching, Keith & Michele
That is a good idea. We have been caravanning for over 10 years and we still pick up tips from people like this.

Delighted you found our video useful Phil. Many thanks for watching, Keith & Michele
I'm glad I watched this before attempting to remove it - top tip
Great video. I cut a peace of hardboard to size as a release key. Stood the cassette on its side. Put one foot on it to hold in place while gently levering on the hardboard key. Result.
Great idea @garytrautner4473. Sending you our best wishes, Keith & Michele xxx
Thanks, very clear and helpful video. There is a number of bloggers recommending this so not even going to try it using the flap.
Hi Stuart & Sue, Many thanks for watching, we’re delighted you found our video helpful. Sending our best wishes to you both, Keith & Michele.
I have owned a few of these over the years and being a person who never reads instructions I never knew it stripped down like that ! Very informative, Thank you .

Excellent tip for newbies like us, I can't believe 30 odd people have given this the thumbs down, sad people. Thanks for posting this.
Hi Tom, Many thanks for your support 👍🏻 You can’t please all of the people all of the time 😀 Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
I feel same. We are having trouble getting our " thingy" off, and got a hammer out! Fortunately before we broke it, I saw this and we are about to look for a piece of wood to help.
Brilliant Keith!! Used a piece of wood to open. Fixed the mechanism and put cover back on!😊👏👏
Delighted you found our video useful Liam. Many thanks for watching, Keith & Michele
Great tip... Doesnt matter how long you have been doing this stuff, we are always learning and love finding out others have the same issues..
Never too old to learn Steve...... We’re still learning 😀 Thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele

Great video! Thanks!
I don’t even own an RV or van or anything yet but videos like this make me feel more confident in going for it! lol
Thanks very much for your kind words, good luck with your future endeavours 😀👍🏻😀
Good demo thanks also before use take it apart and smear a small amount of silicon grease where the two rub and it will open up easily
Many thanks for the tip Greg, great advice 👍🏻 Best wishes, Keith & Michele.
Thanks for this information. I didn't know that the top turned around. I had often wondered how to get it off! ✅👍
Hi Pam, We’re delighted you found our video helpful 👍🏻 Thanks for watching, best wishes, Keith & Michele.
Great video, always nice to have a solution if the tank plate is stubborn, however it is worth pointing out this method can not be used on the older Thetford C200 cassette (grey cassette with yellow buttons/knobs) or you will most certainly damage the slider mechanism as the plate is secured with eight screws to the cassette.
I've been looking for that bit of information for quite a while. Thank you
Hi Katrin, We’re delighted you found our video helpful 👍🏻 Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
Yes I hope it is going well xx
Great tip I wish I had viewed this before I replaced my lip seal. Getting the top off when it had been in situ for many years was a real challenge. I tapped all round with a rubber mallet then used a piece of wood and tapped against the channel to gently free it up. Your method would have been much simpler ! The components are in a horrible state so I am now cleaning everything. Thanks !
Hi Trevor, Really pleased you found this tip helpful 👍🏻 Many thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
Excellent idea! Necessity is the mother of invention.
Thanks Mike, sometimes the simplest ideas are the most effective 😀 Thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele

Happy to help Kev, it appears that a lot of people have had problems opening theirs. Such a simple solution
Brilliant, I nearly broke my finger doing it the hard way. Thanks very much.
Hi Dave, Delighted to be of assistance 😀 Thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Great video .... excuse my ignorance but what does the magnet do?
Hi Philip, The magnet is attached to the float & as the float rises, the magnet reaches a sensor which triggers the light on the toilet to indicate the cassette is full & needs emptying. Hope this helps, please feel free to ask any questions 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Phillip, thanks for asking that question? Could be why my red light doesn’t come on!
I never knew you could do that! Well done!
Hi Andrew, really simple solution to a tricky issue 😀 Thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele.
What a brilliant tip!
Thank you.

Brilliant tip Keith.thanks for that 👍
Thanks Paul
Hi Folks, thank you for the informative video, newbie here so all tips are welcome, would it be wise to use bleach/detol to clean inside of cassette ?
Hi Patrick, Many thanks for your kind words 👍🏻 As we have said in many of our videos, we’re not experts, just sharing our experiences & tips that we have picked up along the way. With this in mind, personally we wouldn’t use bleach in the toilet cassette as this could be harmful & react to the plastic & rubber seal. When we clean ours, we use Milton sterilising fluid which is effective yet gentle & readily available in supermarkets. Every few months, for a deep clean, we use this method, filling the cassette right to the top with a mixture of Milton & water & leave it in the car whilst driving to agitate it. This gives a thorough clean. Hope this helps 👍🏻 Keith & Michele.
Thank you very much for your reply will use this method in future
Great tip thanks for sharing it 👍
Hi Tammie, Thanks for watching 😀 Keith & Michele
Hi I did watch a video about this and the one I watched the person doing it send when he had cleaned it he then put a little olive oil around the rubber seal , that made good sense to me . Hope you like that idea. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Hi Alan, Many thanks for watching, Great tip, thanks for sharing. Best wishes, stay safe, Keith & Michele.
Wow great video. Thank you.
Many thanks for watching Christine, We’re delighted you found our video helpful. Sending our best wishes to you, Keith & Michele.
Great tip I must admit that when opening up the cassette I've always been a bit weary as the plastic seems a bit flimsy.
Best wishes
Jon and Karen
hi, good info. why didn't you continue with magnet replacement if lost (justba few more words) I think this must be problem due to shaking and not knowing what is happening. helpful otherwise (Douglas O2it) nz comment aboull
Thanks for watching Stephen, good idea for a future video. Sending our best wishes to you, Keith & Michele.
When ever I connect hoses or fittings metal or plastic I wipe a little Vaseline in the joint, does no harm, easy to clean off and makes dismantling very easy.
Great tip Christopher, Many thanks for sharing 👍🏻 Best wishes, Keith & Michele.
Great tip for the sake of a couple of quid it will save you a fortune in the long run
Hi Lee, delighted you found this useful 👍🏻 Many thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
Rub Vaseline around the seal from first use. Job done. It stays sealed and easy to remove. Its like rubbing oil around your pressure cooker seal. Removing the lid saves the seal and also acts as a seal barrier also. Job done no need for a chunk of wood. If you have no Vaseline? cooking olive oil will do the job also.
Hi Rob, Another great tip 👍🏻 Thanks for sharing 😀 Keith & Michele
Nice vids mate.
thanks for the tip about opening as I have to open mine to carry out a repair. why would you not use the cassette without the slider?
Hi Radish Pea, thanks for your comment, the slider is used to help seal the unit. Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
Appreciate you replying to my question. Am I right in thinking not when the cassette is inserted?
When you insert the cassette into the caravan, the slider will automatically slide open. When you remove the cassette from the caravan the slider then slides into the closed position. We would highly recommend that you do not remove the slider when inserting the cassette back into the caravan, it is there for a purpose. Hope this helps, Keith & Michele.
Great stuff!! Thanks very much for sharing...
Many thanks Dave, delighted you found it helpful 👍🏻 Best wishes, Keith & Michele.
I used your idea worked very well
Many thanks David, delighted you found our video useful. Sending our best wishes, Keith & Michele
Cool tip, so whats the magnet for ?
Hi, The magnet is connected to the float & as the float rises the magnet triggers a sensor which activates a light on top of the toilet to indicate when the cassette is full. Hope this helps, thanks for watching, Keith & Michele
@@keithandmichele Cheers mate, that must be why mine isn't working
Hope you manage to get it sorted. 👍 let us know how you get on. We believe you can buy a replacement float. Keith & Michele
@@keithandmichele cheers mate all fixed th-cam.com/video/3i8zLZ0qNkE/w-d-xo.html
Hi, I can tell this has been up awhile, but I’ll ask. I have that cassette toilet. Just unboxed. I cannot at this point pull the cassette out. I’ve read the manual that says it should come out without force. So I have not forced it. I’ve made sure the blade is closed. Any suggestions?
Hi, assuming you lift the front lever high enough over the lip and the blade is closed, the cassette should slide out without force. Never force it as this could do more damage. Apart from opening & closing the blade a few times we would recommend seeking assistance from your dealer or a mobile engineer. Keith & Michele
Thanks for the tip
Hi Keith, great tip. however after trying your method to unscrew the access panel I noticed 2 screws I removed these and it still wouldn't move. I then removed the 2 covers from the sides to reveal a futher 6 screws, after removing these the whole access panel just lifted out. Maybe this is due to the age of the caravan (2006). I am unable to atatched a photo.
Hi Colin, The one we demonstrated is a newer model cassette, Think it was updated in 2015/16. Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
Great tip Keith, Thanks for the mention 👍👍
Cheers Martin. 👌👍
Glad you said that it was a new cassette, was wondering why you had it on the coffee table in your lounge.Thetford should supply a tool for this.
Hi Paul, Don’t think Michele would have allowed a used one on the coffee table 😆 ......or even in the house 😜 Thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Great tip and vid, thanks. Pity you didn't also show how to remove the float arm while you were there as I want to know how it comes out to check if I've lost the magnet. But at least I now know how to get inside the easy way.
Many thanks Jim, unfortunately don’t know how to remove the float arm, will have a look next time we’re out & get back to you 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Thanks guys very useful 👍
Hi Dave, glad you’ve found this tip useful, thanks for watching, Keith & Michele

Super Tipp!Vielen Dank!
Delighted you found our video helpful 👍🏻 Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
Great idea gives you more levridge plastic cover on the casset is to short
Hi Karl, Yes, makes the job so much easier. Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele
I didn’t even know that was removable 👍🏻
Many thanks for watching Chris, delighted you found it helpful 👍🏻 Best wishes, Keith & Michele.
I used the bit of wood and the side still snapped. The design of the longer cassette with yellow knobs is better, as the sides can easily be replaced - they just snap on and off.
Hi Joe. Don’t think the cassettes are interchangeable. Many thanks for watching, Keith & Michele
@@keithandmichele I realise that the cassettes are not interchangeable, but Thetford should consider adapting the design of all their cassettes to make them more user friendly.
Great video. I never knew about this
Hi, Thanks very much for watching, sometimes the simplest things in life are the easiest 😀 Keith & Michele

شكرا لك ⚘
Hi Abdullah, Many thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele.
So I guess the manufacturer & or designer has never used their product. It's sad the product isn't more user friendly. Thank for the tip.
Wholeheartedly agree Linda, so simple yet so effective. Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
Very interesting thanks
Delighted you found it helpful Robert, thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
Thank you, very informative 👍
Thanks for watching Robin 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
What's the magnet for?
Hi, The magnet is attached to the float which rises as the cassette fills up. It activates a sensor when the cassette is full & illuminates the light on the top of the toilet, letting you know that it needs emptying. Hope this helps, Keith & Michele.
@@keithandmichele Ah okay. This might be a daft question (there's every chance, lol) but does this only apply to electric toilets? Mine's a manual one.
Hi, Not a daft question whatsoever. If your toilet has an indicating light then the magnet will activate this. Don’t really know about manual toilets 🤔 Sorry we can’t be of more help. Hopefully someone else will read this & help with a comment 👍🏻 Many thanks, Keith & Michele.
No worries. Thanks for replying anyhoo 😊
GREAT TIP .
Many thanks Phillip, delighted you found our video helpful, thanks for watching, best wishes, Keith & Michele.
Really useful. Thanks. 🙂
Thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Great tips
Many thanks for watching Iv Taylor 👍🏻 Keith & Michele.
I’ve been caravaning for 20yrs and I’ve only removed that part once. That’s a brand new cassette, not so pleasant taking apart one that’s been used for a few years
Hi, We tend to deep clean our cassette at the end of every season as this removes any limescale & debris that may have built up. Using this technique allows you to do this more frequently without fear of breaking it. Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele
Hi, which toilet cassette is it please
Hi Brian, The cassette is a Thetford C260 Hope this helps, Keith & Michele.
Good tip...thanks
Hi Gary, Many thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele.
That probably explains why their is a big chunk missing out the corner of the slides on my tank on the 2017 second hand van I have purchased had a complete replacement tank from them
More than likely Martin, hope this video was useful for you. Thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Top tip thanks for sharing P&J
Useful to know.
Many thanks for watching Ian 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Great tip, my magnet float has dislodged in mine can see it laying on the bottom of the cassette, so will be trying this tomorrow, thanks
Brilliant 👍🏻 Let us know how you get on. Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele
@@keithandmichele Yes it was not the float magnet that was dislodged, someone not me had lost a tap and hose connector with about 5" of hose attached inside the cassette well this probably came from a toilet disposal point and fell in, all fixed now and seals sprayed with Thetford Lube, many thanks for the tips.
Hi, Delighted the tip worked & you’ve solved the problem. Many thanks for letting us know 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Thans you
Lube the threads with silicone gel.

Thanks for the tip Brian 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Simples 👍
Thanks for watching Rob 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
looks like your going to save us £50 thanks.
Delighted, every little helps 😀 Keith & Michele
My top tip is to not actually use it as a toilet i.e. don’t take a crap in them. Use a bag - once past the initial revulsion, it’s a game changer.
Someone told me to use 'Comfort Frabric Conditioner instead of the usual 'blue' chemical stuff. Have you heard this before?
Sorry haven’t heard of this. We mainly use 40 shot as it’s used for both flush and cassette. Thanks for watching. Keith & Michele
This happened to me 😢
Top job :-)
Many thanks Severn Beach, delighted you found our video helpful 👍🏻 Stay safe, Keith & Michele.
