      The IMPORTANT thing is to wait for the cassette to be fully upright and the waste is already emptying. If you do it too early then you'll have nasty stuff on your hands. This is a man who is speaking from experience 🤣.
      But otherwise what peeps above say is spot on, it's there to allow air to flow in and allow waste to flow out smoothly.

    The yellow button is what PREVENTS the glugging that was mentioned hence speeding up emptying and reducing splashing. Also, the toilet fluid does a lot more that just smells nice. It actually breaks down waste allowing the cassette to be left slightly longer between empties and empties easier. 😎

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Paul. Many viewers have now told me about the yellow button. However, the fluid doesn't break the solids down, the water does that and solids are not in the cassette long enough to break them down anyway.

    Yellow button is for air release when dumping cassette, Do not invert cassette when rubber seals start to degrade it will leak, I use a combination of toilet chemical and 3 in 1 Bio detergent capsules helps keep the unpleasant smell down. Good viedo for beginner learning the skills needed for Motorhome toilet.

    Great video Ads, especially to those uninitiated with cassettes. The only other thing I would say is, when rising with clean water, not to shake the cassette too enthusiastically. When you’re wanting to clean the cassette it’s a natural thing to do but it can damage your rubber seals and so best to go easy when rinsing 👍

    I have to use the yellow air release button on our cassette as it is incredibly slow emptying and doesn't properly empty the cassette. Like Andrew and Karen we layer the bowl for two's, but leave the trap open so that the weight of the two's can drop into the cassette, sometimes a little bit of a flush.
    We were given a tip from a friend to help with smells is using Toilet Fresh Discs. I have been thinking about fitting a SOG system so that we are then chemical free.
    I am amazed that you haven't done what we have done and get rid of the useless Fiamma toilet brush, they are useless for cleaning the toilet. Mine soon ended up in the bin and replaced with a proper bristled brush that is also designed for caravans and Motorhomes.
    I do need to look at fitting a reducer to our flush as ours if you hold the flush for to long shots water out of the side, so we have to pulse the flush or hold the toilet brush over the jet to soften the flow.

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Digger Buckett. We don't have a problem with the brush. It works fine.
      I've noticed that our flush isn't as powerful when wild camping because we are not on EHU. Maybe something to consider if you are thinking of reducing the flow.

    This is how we use our toilet. For No1's we have flap open for No2's we layer the toilet bowl with toilet paper in a tulip fashion slide closed, do your No2, wipe bum, flush for a couple of seconds toilet paper wraps around your No2, open slide waste drops in cassette you may need to flush again to get a larger amount to drop into the cassette, most of the time this leaves no poo in the bowl, also when emptying keep button pressed in it stops lots of splash back and clogging of outlet spout if a large amount of solid waste in there 👍

    Empty everu day is gonna be real expensive with thetford chemical you put in...
    It helps dissolve solids and makes everything just liquid.
    One box of 15 lasts 75 days. (One every 4 days)

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We don't use Thetford, andreas. One Chem is £8 for 40 emptys. It's a myth that liquid doesn't dissolves the solids.

      @@HermanHitstheRoad we will have to agree to disagree on what the chemicals do.
      I looked at your link, and it seems the one you have is for smell only.
      I haven't really looked for a comparison, but I would say 1 day of course is not enough. 1 sachet is for 4-5 days. :)
      It's good though, imagine if we all agreed on everything 🙄🙊

      4-5 days? Toilet waste isn't in the cassette that long. It's the water that does the breaking down. The chemicals just hide the smell.

      @@HermanHitstheRoad i don't empty every day. That's impossible when not using campsites all the time
      The chemicals HELP dissolve, not saying water alone doesn't do anything :)
      When emptying all I have is liquid, no solids that I've seen.

    Mostly I enjoy your videos , very informative but , as others have commented that one on the cassette toilet was far from your best. Yellow button pressing helps the waste exit and the emptying method you use is not how I’ve ever seen it demonstrated. Hopefully newcomers to cassette toilets will read the manual before watching that demo of yours.

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Frazel, I've never had any problems with the way I do it and surely pressing the yellow button can allow the insides to leak out from it? Sounds messy to me but I may give it a go next time.

    • @pageant1fd
      @pageant1fd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HermanHitstheRoad shouldn’t leak from the yellow button if seal is ok . If your method works for you re the cassette emptying mate stick to it ! Not literally of course. The flush outlet into the pan will clean off with lemon juice dilution and a stiff tooth brush....use hers she won’t know 😉👍

    • @pageant1fd
      @pageant1fd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ps . Emptying cassette upside down as you demonstrated might very well cause a leakage from yellow button or the flap of seals are a tad iffy! Looking forward to your next video. Cheers 🥃👍

    That was painful. No explanation about how the pouring spout comes off, no mention of lubricating the main rubber seals, also if you recommend emptying every day why not use something cheaper such as Lidls Formyl biodegradable washing liquid, keeps cassette clean and smells nice too.
    The yellow button is not to release gas build up, it is to assist with emptying, by allowing air in as the black water comes out. Expected to hear everything I needed to know about cassettes, but it was very amateurish, sorry.
