I have a 7.3 with over 670 k on the truck and it still pulls like a train . Best motor ever . 15 years I have had the truck . Still like the day I bought it . Best truck ever .!!!!!
Yeah,i have a Dodge 2500 of 2000.I have never ever touched anything in that motor in 24 years.I just changed the axles ratio to 3,73 and bought down the transmission and replaced for an ALLISON 1000.
My neighbor used to haul 5th wheel campers from the east coast of the US to the west coast. It’s a 2003 3500 dodge with the 5.9. That motor had 1.6 million miles on it before he did a swap. The truck is still going today. I have two 5.9 s one with 326 thousand miles and one with 500 thousand miles.
In my opinion the Cummins 5.9, 24 valve combines the legendary durability of this engine with a touch of refinement. Been driving mine for almost nineteen years. The longer I own it, the more I appreciate and want to keep going. Just the best.
2003 , 3500 , 4X4 , 5.9 , 6 speed standard, 4 door and 8 foot box the ultimate power wagon . 354,000 kms and in for all new injectors as one was defective. I get 23 mpg just bumming around, awesome truck.
I bought a 1999 Dodge 2500 CTD with the ISB in it brand new. It ate three $2000 VP pumps. I sold it and now have a 1995 with a 12 valve 6BT. I hear the hot ticket now is take the ISB, throw the VP pump out and put the 6BT P Pump on with the adapter kit.
After 14 years running a one-man shop, I sold off all my modern crap and bought a '93 W250 with a Cummins & 5-speed. Couldn't be happier! I gladly gave up comfort, power, and handling / speed for RELIABILITY and EASY maintenance & repairs.
My 2001 Ram 2500 has the 5.9L and it is the best. Plenty of power and I get 19-21 mpg. I will never give this one up. It has the best of the things i like. 6 speed manual, loud diesel noise., no annoying seat belt light or alarm, CD and cassette. Just what a 76 yr old guy needs.
My neighbour's 5.9 12 valve was severely damaged at about 100,000 kms by the killer dowel pin. He was lucky that it didn't destroy the whole engine, lots did. Some whole engines were replaced by Chrysler if the engine went while still under warranty. It's weird that this serious build fault is rarely mentioned when the Cummins name comes up.
I have a 2005 Cummins with 980000 miles. I will be driving it for a very long time. There is no way I will buy a new diesel with emissions on it. They are junk.
@@robertmintz63 Best engine, with a great transmission, and the prettiest truck of course subjective opinion depending on the person and what body style they like the most
The Cummins 5.9 gets some bad press for oil leaks, noise, and some turbo issues, but in 40 years of truck leasing and medium duty sales, in my opinion is is one of the best engines ever produced. Cheap to maintain, cheaper to operate, NO electronics, and if it was in a proper application, I'd seen some at 400k miles still running strong!
So basically consolidated diesel hit the pinnacle in 1984 when Tenneco and Cummins decided to engineer greatness. 3.9, 5.9, and 8.3s just seem to be everywhere, just working away, clocking up the hours. 2 stroke Detroits did a lot for America in the 60s and 70s, but Cummins sure left a big mark on diesel history.
A 1997 F series Super Duty (F450) with the 7.3 Powerstroke was the best truck I ever had hauling a 10 ft camper and pulling a 3 horse trailer, in the mountains......smoothest running engine I ever had and all the power needed, got the job done for over 15 years, no problems, with reg maintainence.
@, keep her on the road. These old girls will outlast any of this new garbage. These old trucks can be fully rebuilt for far cheaper than the cost of a new truck. Plus these old trucks are just plain cooler than the new crap.
Here in the UK I had a 24tonne truck powered with the 5-9 Cummins engine, what a powerhouse,I never thought an engine of that size could produce such an amount of power, this engine was the unmolested unit before all the emission shite came on the scene, total reliability and compared to the 6litre engines available here with their miserable power outputs it was a joy to drive it made mincemeat of higher powered trucks on hills with its fantastic torque, old technology at its best.
Brother, I’m a 34 year GM tech at a dealership. Diesel retired recently, but the Duramax is the worst diesel engine ever made for the pin in the crankshaft or constantly breaking crankshaft constantly breaking camshaft in the new six cylinder Duramax diesel with the small time and chain in the back of the motor it is a total disaster so no Duramax should not even be in your lineup.
Yeah the firing order is truly a odd ball. I don’t like any V8’s or V6’s. Really anything V. In lines connecting rods don’t share crank space. Longevity is way better and easier to work on.
Not sure about the 7.3, but I've had a '96, '99 and now a 2006 5.9 Cummins since new, and all three wngines have been able to outlast 3 or 4 trucks. I've seen guys driving these and the truck is falling apart around an engine that still purrs like a kitten and works like a Clydesdale. If you stay on top of the maintenance, these engines will basically run forever pre emissions / EGR.
It’s tied on the 5.9 and 7.3 in my opinion but then it goes down to the trans and then the stability of the body/chassi and with both the 5.9 and the 7.3 having there own issues in the trans the 7.3 takes the win in my opinion with the body not rattling apart
I've had 3 7.3's liked them all but sold them off I'm on my 3rd 6.0 I like how they run had them For 17 years now and I have a 15 6.7 deleted now that engine makes me smile
I heard a genetics company rep talking about their turbo Cummings ram truck used for delivering breeding stock with over a million Km on it and it was still going strong at the time.
I got my 2006 cummins 5.9 IL turbo diesel on may of that same year and today after 200k miles and still running strong and super reliable I can report that this engine is indeed the kind of all engines. T6 Rotella oil and Baldwin fuel filter is my to go for regular maintenance. This truck will ride me to retirement age for sure. Still original injectors and transmission!! 🤙🇺🇸Cummins 5.9 rules!!!
I have a '99 Dodge Ram 3500 with the 24 valve 5.9 liter Cummins Turbo and a 5 speed manual transmission. I get just over 20 mpg. I figure that's pretty good for a truck that weighs more than 7000 pounds empty.
I have a 92 Dodge 250 club cab 4x4 with a 5.9 Cummins. I bought it in 95 and it has a million km. So far changed a starter and an alternator. Gets 25 mpg. 14-19 trailering. I also have a 92 Fleetwood 35’ class A Motorhome with the 5.9. Super motor. Gets up to 18 mpg. They’ve been good to me. Noisy in a truck, quiet back in a pusher.
Daily driving my 7.3L SD and it's better than when it came off the factory floor. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Now if they would just have made transmissions with the gears they have today, it would be unstoppable. The transmission (especially the auto's), is the least reliable thing about it. From what I've heard the 6 speed manual helps a lot, but a proper automatic with 7-10 gears would put all others out of business. ;-)
Exactly all power strokes are high maintance and low real world towing power a Cummins will pull all day below 2 k a power stroke needs to be almost redlined to even get a trailer moving and are slow 🦥 n the grades not to mention they have so much blowby at 200 k they leak everywhere.@@299charles

All I'll say is, look at what 99 percent of the hotshot truckers use to pull loads day in / day out. Lets put our feelings aside, You know whats the best diesel pickup.
The Ford 6.7 has problems, one is the CP4 pump that Ford needs to do away with. The CP4 blows up sending metal shavings in the fuel system which everything in the fuel system gets replaced.Ford has a class action lawsuit against them on this. The aftermarket has a kit to remove this pump and replace it with something else. The 1989 to 1998 5.9 Cummins, killer dowl pin and this is a real easy fix. Sell a kit to fix it and you can make it by making a plate with a hole in it for the inner timing cover bolt to secure it in
European diesels have some pretty sweet offerings, they just aren’t common enough in North America, nor are they regularly offered in passenger vehicles and pick ups. Duetz, Sisu, Scania, all have some pretty reliable offerings, but are mostly off road

Sell a kit to fix it and you can make it by making a plate with a hole in it for the inner timing cover bolt to secure it in
The Duramax with a CP3 conversion deleted is the way to go
Turbo Diesel! Ford! Glenn
Can't beat a lb7 duramax
Not my cummins 😂😂😂😂
I like the Mercedes diesel engines too.
European diesels have some pretty sweet offerings, they just aren’t common enough in North America, nor are they regularly offered in passenger vehicles and pick ups. Duetz, Sisu, Scania, all have some pretty reliable offerings, but are mostly off road
@@brianschryver8314 the Japanese makers produce great diesels as well, like the Toyota Hilux diesels 300 k miles not uncommon.
Well, you got 3 out of the 5 correct...
The only thing that lasts for ever is TAXES !
Scania V8, Mercedes OM617...
Never heard of a Furd 6.7 being reliable,,, needs 20 yrs to determine that…..
I’ll take a 5.9 12v any day.
7.3 #1
6.7 ford/no, 5.9 cummins/12valve, yes........7.3 best on this list......

Yes!!!
This guy got creative with his words the 6.7 ford is a piece of garbage the latest versions don't last past 200,000 MI
😂
Any of the new diesels are only one time use. Unless you have deeper pockets and less brains for the everyday man
They should change the title of this video. They completely missed European engines that the body of the vehicles dies long before the engine give an problem. I have 2 from Europe and everything else about these vehicles give trouble except the engines
Nothing from Mercedes or Volvo on the list?

First the 6.7 junk
Yeppers dude's
The Ford Diesel engine is great, the problem is everything around the engine fails!
Inspid narration.
Ford and GM diesel engines are all crap. I'll stay with my 1999 5.9 24 valve Cummins. Duramax and Powerstroke engines were never a good option. I spent many years working on all of them.
Ford ? Are you kidding ? Junk.
Your post is garbage
Take the 5.9 Dodge diesel every time then the Ford 7.3
