Triton 5.4 v-8 broke me from the habit of owning a Never again.

I have a '99 Dodge Ram 3500 with the 24 valve 5.9 liter Cummins Turbo and a 5 speed manual transmission. I get just over 20 mpg. I figure that's pretty good for a truck that weighs more than 7000 pounds empty.

Toyota 4.7 truck engine has to be on the list. This list is so bogus without the 4.7 on it.

GM 283 cu inch v8. Couldn't kill it. 1966 parisienne. 😊 VW 1.7 litre inl 4. Constant distributor failure. Junk. 3 distributors in 2 yrs on Dodge Omni.

My 2006 "bulletproofed" 6.0 F250 has been the best truck I've had. Zero problems in the 7 years that I've had it.

I have the mercedes-benz m271 which is currently on 404 000 km and can give me 5.2l/100l can still reach 200km/h

I’ve been the owner of 3 different 5.4’s in my years, and all of them had 175 K+ when I traded, and had original plugs and ran fine. CHANGE THE OIL!!!

well I see this doosch knuckle failed to mention the first GEN 5.3L from GM , from late 2000 thru early 2003, this engine would develop a cold start engine knock but after warming up it was fine. GM gave zero phux about this problem ....

Great car engines should be judged primarily on how maw years it was in production. This is the best test of reliability, maintainability, and cost effectiveness. For example the Chrysler Slant Six was in production from 1959 to 1984. It powered cars, tractors, and boats. The Chevy small block produced for 51 years!

The only problem with the 22 R engine was the plastic timing chain guides. Once the timing chain system was replaced, they’d run forever.

The Toyota 2TC and 3TC engines were indestructible. They should be on any tough engine list too.

The GM DOD failure is the most blown out of proportion thing ever. To put an LS on the list with these complete turds is a disgrace.

After 14 years running a one-man shop, I sold off all my modern crap and bought a '93 W250 with a Cummins & 5-speed. Couldn't be happier! I gladly gave up comfort, power, and handling / speed for RELIABILITY and EASY maintenance & repairs.

The 7.3 was made from 1994 to 2003 not 2003 to 2007

I have 330,000 miles on my 5.4L 3V and have never had to do anything to it. Changed the plugs twice, only broke two the first time, and used the extractor kit. Runs like a champ. Do oil changes every 3000 miles. Those who say it's a bad engine never took care of it. And I'm an auto technician.

Routine maintenance? Is that something that's done after it breaks??? You all know the difference.... BTW KIDS: When something "BREAKS" it is broken. When something "BRAKES" pressure has been applied to the middle pedal that slows or stops the machine. Learn the difference and how to prevent it from BREAKING to begin with!!! Also, Learn how to use your BRAKES. How to apply BRAKES? (See instructions below) Number 1: Put down the phone. Number 2: See Number 1.

this guy never rebuilt an engine , claims the v8 ford and chevy have less moving parts than a overhead cam engine !!! what the fuck is he talking about , the gm 2.2 great? not !! i have seen a bunch with blown timing chains and it distroys the motor , the Mitsubishi ? yeah very powerful but lats long? no they don't , subaru? oil leaker and blown head gaskets galore i know i owned a bunch the best one was the 2.2 ,

They mention the Dodge 4.7. I have one in my Dakota, well over 200k miles and still going strong, and our yard truck was a Chevy with the 5.3, mileage unknown but know it was close to 400k if not more

Sounds a bit like John Goodman. We have owned many of these and can attest to the reliability over the decades. Toyota 2TC 4cy Hemi deserves a mention as well. We had several that would not let go, past 300,000 miles. One had 426,000miles on it when we finally sent it down the line. We had no replacement vehicle to put it in. The car it was in rotted away from too many Minnesota winters of salty roads. We had so many that ran so great but rotted away because of use here on salty roads. My son has a SBC 1995 Z-71 4x4 with 342,000miles on its original 5.7L motor. My brother had a 1973 Monty Carlo with over 450,000miles on its original 5.7 SBC. I had a 1979 Volare with a 225 Slant, it had well over 300,000 miles on it when I sold it. Wish I kept that one, had no where to put it though with its failing transmission 😢. I believe in using synthetic oil, we get good results with it. My 2008 AWD SEL Taurus X Ford 3.5L V6 has 254,000 miles on it now, knock on wood it’s been a good runner with good performance too. I paid $3000 for it 10yrs ago with 171,000 miles on it.

5.4 2V fired plugs through the hood. The 3V plugs from 2004 to 2008 broke in half when you tried to remove them. Oil pump was weak, and the chain tensioners were notorious for blowing the seals causing oil starvation on the top half of the engine.

Push rods may be simple but they don't mean an engine has fewer moving parts, That would be a direct acting overhead cam.

WOW, Too many WRONG Facts! The Ford 240/300 I 6 should number 1. The U.S. Postal, Federal Express, UPS, U-Haul and many other fleets had this engine had millions of these engines and logged over one million miles! They also had steel timing gears. The Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (Built by Navistar starting in 1984 with the 6.9L IDI and the 9.3L IDI from 1988 until 1993) was in production from 1993 (in the 1994 Model year F250, F350 and Super Duty) until the 2003 Model year when it was changed to the double overhead cam 24 valve 6.0L piece of junk! Ford took over production of the Power Stroke in 2010 for the 2011 model year after legal battles. Oh, and they NEVER put the 6.7L Cummins in a Class 8 Truck! Wrong pictures! You can get them in class 5, 6 and 7 chassis! Oh, the GMC Sierra, looks more like a GMC Cyclone. Looks like someone did not do a check before this was released!
