As the Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan get underway, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute is partnering with the PBS NewsHour to provide video highlights of the nine most recent Senate confirmation hearings.
What a repeat of history with the present Supreme Court nominee Bret Kavanaugh.
And both hearings turned out to be false allegations...

@Kevin K I was more impressed with Blasey Ford who described an actual sexual assault- Anita Hill struck me as someone who was too hard nosed to be truly bothered by someone who really just asked her out more times than he should have. No one hates a black conservative more than a toxic feminist.

There was a lot of corroborating evidence of her account. Kavanaugh clearly lied about the devils triangle, the extent of his drinking and other issues that was on oath. That is a serious damn thing for someone going into the Country's highest court. I went back to this because I was so impressed by Thomas's conduct under fire which is the 'stuff' i expect from a high ranking law officer as against Kavanaugh who came across like a drunken, beligerent, whiney, entitled dumb, rich frat boy. Blasey Ford has sub zero to gain by this coming out.

I admire Justice Thomas' ability to remain calm, dignified, and eloquent when under pressure. He may not talk much, but most of the time the wisest person is the one who knows when to not talk. Justice Thomas is obviously one of the wise ones.
Unlike a lot of people, he takes his time to really think about his response which is truly admirable especially while under such intense scrutiny.

I find it interesting that the newscaster at the beginning of this video made certain to refer to Thomas and Hill as "articulate." It has a potentially negative connotation--as to perhaps infer that Blacks are not expected to be otherwise articulate.
As a Black person, I noticed that, too. There was no need to mention and remind that they were both articulate. Everyone listening to them talk knew that. The journalist or news caster made it seem like it's an amazing thing for a Black person to be articulate as if that's odd. Crazy.

Wasn't he her boss at the time? I imagine she probably was trying to further her career as well. Most people act pretty dumb when there are power dynamics at play, or it might not be dumb because of the power dynamic.
I'm not sure what the climate was in the 80s for a woman to come out about sexual harassment either, but that could be a factor as well.

You can tell by the way that Representative Hefler reacted to Thomas stating that he did not listen to her testimony that they (the Democrats) just lost the plot. They thought that hearing her testimony would force him to withdraw from the nomination, but him not even giving that hearing enough respect to listen took away their biggest weapon.

There is no way that Anita Hill was telling the truth. Why would she continually follow him to another job and out to dinner if she was so abused and traumatized by years of sexual harassment? She was very nervous and started to sweat when asked if she was told by a third party that he would likely withdraw from the nomination just from her accusation and that she would likely not have to testify. Specter should have pursued that line of questioning because she was close to folding and avoided answering the specific questions. That is the key to the lack of credibility of the accusations by Hill.
It blows my mind how victims like Mrs. Hill wait 10 years to complain about sexual harassment.
MRS Hill didn’t complain, Bane. The FBI asked her questions regarding Mr Thomas and she advised them of her experience. She did not complain. She answered when they asked her, period!

He seems very truthful, and so does Hill. However, I don't think this is something to discuss in public. Its just not right. If he offered her the job, then she left there on a good note, not a bad one. Which means that all she said about wanting to leave is Irrelevant. That is the punch line. Maybe the FBI try to convince her that what he had done was bad. Maybe because he is a black man the media wanted to make up lies...we all know that the media made up lies about Trump president for example about all immigrants when he was actually discussing only the illegal ones who are not working or doing anything good in society.
I fully agree that this kind of thing should not be discussed in public. If a person has been sexually assaulted, get help from a professional and learn how to deal with it. We all have been violated against and need to learn how to deal with being sinned against. When something like this is put on public display, its only used to degrade or get back at the person. Learning how to deal with it and then approaching the perpetrator, if need be, to stop the misconduct from happening again, if indeed it has continued, should be the end goal. Maybe the perpetrator has made a change. With Thomas and Kavanaugh's case, it feels like someone is simply trying to smear someone else because of the timing of it. Some parties never learn.

@TavaresDelanis This isn't a criminal trial (where it would be the prosecution's burden, beyond a reasonable doubt) or even a civil lawsuit (where it would be the burden of Hill to prove by the preponderance of the evidence); it's a confirmation hearing. The burden of proof is on the nominee as to his suitability.
