  • The best way to improve your cross country skiing is to get accurate feedback on your skiing from a certified nordic ski instructor. Keith Nicol is a CANSI Level 4 instructor and teaches Cross Country Instuctor courses in Canada. For those people who do not have instructors in their area we are offering on line ski instruction. See this blog post for more information-- keithnicol.blog...
Skiers looking to solve their lunging problem can see this video- • How to correct common ... and for those looking for help develop a solid skate push can check out this video- • Developing a solid pus...
In Canada look for instructors certified by the Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI). CANSI has 4 levels of instructor certification- Level 1 - instructors are trained to work with beginning skiers through to Level 4 instructors who run instructor courses and can work with advanced skiers. CANSI info at: www.cansi.ca/i... Other countries have their own cross country instructor certification programmes.

I’ve skied for about 40 years and am a PSIA instructor. You went to the heart of the problem for most skiers. Nice video. Keep it simple.

I have yet to be brave enough to film my own skiing. This is a good reminder that I can’t fix what I don’t see!

Just run about 500 km on skis, and finally you will catch the right feeling how to do this. Plus some videos with technique explanations may be useful to make progress more efficient.

Regarding your "practice makes perfect" reference ... A more correct version is, "Practice makes permanent" (and by extension, practicing the wrong thing just makes wrong easier, quicker and feel more natural). I don't recall who I learned that phrase from, but it's coaching gold. From whoever, to me to you. Pass it on.

That lunge move also puts a great deal of stress on the Psoas muscle; the large muscle that runs down the front of the thigh between the groin, and upper leg. Once it's injured it can be quite painful, and take a while to heal. My wife had this problem, and now stretches regularly. She watched this video, and working on that stride !!!!!

Good point..didn`t know about that psoas muscle.

THE BEST SKIING LESSONS EVER! Keith Nicol is FANTASTIC by video. He gives tips and drills based upon my specific needs. I'm 20% faster and can ski more challenging areas. Keith responds quickly to uploaded videos. Having expert tips from Keith was far more effective than in person lessons.

After watching many of the great videos that Keith has posted here and getting some great suggestions, I was still unsure as to what I needed to improve. Even if someone films you they usually can't tell what's to be improved. A few days back I sent my videos to Keith and he gave me excellent feedback and drills to work on. Now my skiing has really improved and I feel like I finally can do this. I definitely recommend the video option. All my best from Finland, and thank you Keith for the hard work!

We just filmed ourselves skiing at Sovereign Lake and sent the videos to Keith. It was very simple to do. He got back to us very quickly and we are looking forward to putting into practice the suggestions he has given us. It is great value, as three of us were skiing together!! We will send off another video soon. Thanks Keith.

Timely and much needed. I started xc skiing a couple times, and havent felt confident that just trying a few more times on my own would do it, knowing that I could be practicing the wrong move.

    Hello Keith
Thanks for the great videos, September is a good time for refreshers.
I only miss one, (which I struggle with) is staying in the tracks in fast downhills.
    Cheers

Great video and the truth. Your videos have been really helpful and great guidance for me. But as you said, nothing beats real one on one feedback. Keep up the great work. Marc

Do you have a drill about the pole plant? On one side, my pole plant seems to be too far behind while I do my diagonal stride; kind of hard to correct. Otherwise it's ok... Sorry to act as if you are doing «à la carte» tutorials... I just want to know if you already have something about that (I haven't seen any on your YT channel). Great channel BTW. Thanks!
