I always loved those movie theater openings where they talk about theater etiquette and advertise their snacks and drinks. This roller coaster ride was a sweet memory of my past. :)
I saw "The Town" two nights ago and the moment I heard the "Welcome to Regal Cinemas" my nostalgic heart did a back-flip. God Bless whoever made this come back to the cinema!
As a lifelong Harry Potter fan, the first film I "rode in" the 2002-2004 roller coaster (with the then-new REG logo) was The Chamber Of Secrets at Regal Oceanside on 11/15/2002. By coincidence, the final two-part HP7 films, The Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 were the first 2 films I "took a ride in" the more spectacular revived roller coaster (same 2002 audio) in front of them at the now-defunct UA Cerritos (and in awesome Sony 4K), which brought me full circle and as a nod to my first HP film I saw at a theater 9 years ago as well as being the final HP films I would ever see. In fact, I saw movies with Harry, Ron, and Hermione in all three of the REG brands: Regal, Edwards, and UA. What memories
Born in 1988, totally remember this back in the 90's. I remember seeing this before movies like ''The Nightare Before Christmas" and "The Lion King". To us, this wasn't just some intro. It was the roller coaster that transported us into the story of our film, regardless of what story that was. Your imagination could exceed beyond the mere fact you were watching a movie in a theater auditorium.
God I loved this thing.... always leaning over to my friends saying "here it comes" before the last popcorn kernel popped and screaming obnoxiously when it did. Good fuckin times
Such a _pang_ of nostalgia for this. Our Regal Cinema, Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania, became a fitness place over a decade ago but seeing this now it feels like I was at the movies only yesterday. I don't know what compelled me to search 'regal cinema coaster' this morning out of the blue but here I am.
God I miiss this it was always my favorite as a kid I use to pretend I was riding a coaster and lean back and forth, right and left holding on to the arm rests then raise my arms when going down. LOL oh memories
They were too big to carry around with you - that is, assuming they weren't physically attached to the car. And the batteries lasted about twenty minutes.
Man, I came across this video almost by accident and it straight up just made me cry because I miss the movies so god damn much. What a shit year it’s been.
My favorite, for the record, is the early-'90s version but that's just me. When I found this I was stunned at how it perfectly characterized an era for me. Still thinking of it twenty minutes later.
I remember seeing this for the first time before “Finding Nemo.” I was kinda thrilled how thrilling this ride was on-screen. One other thing I have not seen in ages and years is “The 2wenty,” a Regal-exclusive pre-show introduced around February 2003 as the birth of digital cinema advertising that moviegoers hated at first due to the unnecessary loudness of the program, which was why the 35mm still ad slides became extinct for good. Of course this was before FirstLook and then Noovie. I wish anybody has footage of The 2wenty because I feel like I missed out a lot on that old pre-show due to being on time in the past, though the Seinfeld behind-the-scenes featurette (as part of promoting the seasons only on DVD) I believe, is pretty much the only one I can remember from The 2wenty before “The Polar Express,” and also the Skittles Smoothie Mix commercial (sheep boys) before the first Madagascar film
As of Today (May 14, 2013), the Roller Coaster is still going strong! Went there to see Iron Man 3, and sure enough both it and the 'Go Big or Go Home' ad were both playing. Granted, it was in an unusual order, as follows: 1. Sprint "Silence Your Cell Phone" Policy 2. Go Big or Go Home 3. "Epic"-themed "Be quiet during the movie" policy 4. The Roller Coaster (FTW) 5. Movie Trailers Thankfully the "Go Big or Go Home" crap is just a commercial, rather than a feature presentation trailer.
Then after this the 20th Century Fox Logo theme with Lucasfilm logo...and then...Star Wars. Say what you want about the Phantom Menace, the nostalgia and excitement from that movie still brings back good memories as a 9 year old.
Took me forever but I finally won the argument with my entire family that the doors at the very end switch sides and is an error. My family loved arguing, but it took a lot to get anyone to admit when they were wrong. I'm not really sure how many movies it took but they finally succumbed.
They closed down our united artists in my town a few years ago since a big cinemark opened at the mall, ( there was one there but they closed it to make room for united artists) They were two movie theatres that were amazing but one is now a dollar theatre which i need to go check out and see how it is now! But this before the movies always got me excited no matter how much i didnt like the film and its in that special place in my heart! :') Never will CINEMARK replace this!
They have been doing this at our movie theater ever since it opened 14 years ago. It's slightly changed over the years. I thought ours was the only one who used it, I guess not. =P
Does anyone remember another theater's intro like this that showed CG animation like this video, but it showed molten metal being poured into a mold and pressed, and at the end, the metal press retracts to reveal the theater's golden logo. I think it was Cobb Theaters, but I can't find any trace of it. I remember another intro had this robot/mechanical arm holding a concession tray with popcorn and a soda on it across the top of the screen. It might have been from the same intro that I described above. Its driving me crazy. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? Both of these things would have been from the 90's.
I remember this like it was yesterday I don't know why they got rid of it after 2004, but I'm glad they brought it back it just doesn't feel the same without seeing this before a movie
jesus what are we even doing here we cant get enough of this at the movie theatre we really all are taking it out of our personal time and looking up the REGAL CINEMAS PRE SHOW THING i didnt even know thats what it was called apparently this is a pre show...never knew that okay i am just going to go cry myself to sleep tonight because i have to live with the fact i actually spent time out of my life on this page on the internet
anyone know the commercial to turn your phones on silent that plays on regal theaters that impersonates high school musical and star wars? i want to know what the song is called they r dancing to that says something about "after our first kiss". it's new. and i so miss this!
Every single time I see a movie that has this beginning, EVERY SINGLE TIME, *someone* in the audience puts their hands up at the beginning.
I remember that too
Such memories
It was me
Me
it’s me i’m the guy who ruined your movie watching experience in the early 2000s i’m the problem it’s me
It’s me I’m someone
I've worked at Regal for over 3 and half years and I was really happy that they brought this back. I always loved this when I was a child
Hey it’s been 11 years… how’ve you been 😮
@@MrKnowsItAllNot Pretty good random stranger, how about yourself?
I wish my local regal would bring us back
I always loved those movie theater openings where they talk about theater etiquette and advertise their snacks and drinks. This roller coaster ride was a sweet memory of my past. :)
Hey it’s been 12 years. What’s good?😮
There’s just something about these bumpers that are unmatched
I saw "The Town" two nights ago and the moment I heard the "Welcome to Regal Cinemas" my nostalgic heart did a back-flip. God Bless whoever made this come back to the cinema!
I remember seeing this as a kid and being so dissapointed when it was replaced. Now it's back and I love seeing it!!

You definitely lived in San Diego

Chris Holderr totally agree with you
@Kefla I miss this, too.
The nostalgia with this one though!!! This is childhood!!
that one popcorn that pops right in your face made me flinch the first couple of times I saw this.
Used from 1998 until June 18, 2004. There was also an older one used from 1990 until early in 1998.
God I loved this thing.... always leaning over to my friends saying "here it comes" before the last popcorn kernel popped and screaming obnoxiously when it did. Good fuckin times

My childhood right there!
Ditto
Can't believe they brought this back...now I have to watch it everytime I start a movie.
God I miiss this it was always my favorite as a kid I use to pretend I was riding a coaster and lean back and forth, right and left holding on to the arm rests then raise my arms when going down. LOL oh memories
I miss this one.
This is so old it doesn't even say anything about silencing cell phones lol
They were too big to carry around with you - that is, assuming they weren't physically attached to the car. And the batteries lasted about twenty minutes.
@@einexile
So you're saying there were Motorola Dynatacs in those days?
Because this is a remake of the 90’s
In the 2007 area Apple invented iPhones so regal didn’t know
svaughan41
They had silenced phones in att or sprint in 2007 not iPhones
Just phone companies
i like how the last note of the theme is harmonized by three guitars, a keyboard and a synthesizer
Man, I came across this video almost by accident and it straight up just made me cry because I miss the movies so god damn much. What a shit year it’s been.
BEST PART OF THE MOVIE!!!!!! LOVE IT!!!
I always loved Regal's roller coaster pre-movie thingy. I was so glad when they brought it back!
I saw this when my dad and I went to see Battle: LA last weekend
This is one of the best roller coasters I've seen from Regal in a long time! The 2010s version's even better!
My favorite, for the record, is the early-'90s version but that's just me. When I found this I was stunned at how it perfectly characterized an era for me. Still thinking of it twenty minutes later.
They brought it back when I went to go see Remember Me in March.
Always brings Space Mountain (my all-time favorite ride) to mind.
I remember seeing this for the first time before “Finding Nemo.” I was kinda thrilled how thrilling this ride was on-screen.

Now THAT is a lost media find we need to get to work on!
OMFG! I saw this before 'Sanctum' the other day. I hadn't seen it in YEARS but I always loved it! Such an amazing blast from the past.
IDK why they ever took this out this is the BEST thing ever :) I work at a Regal theater and I get to see this everyday i work :D

So much nostalgia.
My Regal theater still uses this thing.
+Riddlewrong In 2016? They had a new policy in 2015! If so, that's cool!
An updated 3D version of this would be AWESOME.
Took me forever but I finally won the argument with my entire family that the doors at the very end switch sides and is an error. My family loved arguing, but it took a lot to get anyone to admit when they were wrong. I'm not really sure how many movies it took but they finally succumbed.
i loved this intro when i was a kid. im so glad they decided to start showing it again
When this comes up, I first start to think of the Video Game F-Zero
I always called it the "Food Thing" growing up.
That tune is pretty rockin'.
From 2002--An updated version of this trailer is now playing at a Regal, United Artists, or Edwards cinema near you.
Thanks, I used to get hyped up before every movie when I saw this :D
I Remember Seeing This Regal Entertainment Group Feature Presentation Roller Coaster Variant Before Shrek The Third In May 2007
They closed down our united artists in my town a few years ago since a big cinemark opened at the mall, ( there was one there but they closed it to make room for united artists) They were two movie theatres that were amazing but one is now a dollar theatre which i need to go check out and see how it is now! I just went to the movies today and it played this! The roller coaster at the end was updated and the candy was skittles instead of twizzlers,
I will ALWAYS laugh at this and have no idea why.
They have been doing this at our movie theater ever since it opened 14 years ago. It's slightly changed over the years. I thought ours was the only one who used it, I guess not. =P
So my childhood intro to the movies was just a reskin of a old roller coaster intro? Huh. You learn something new every day.
Still epic tho
That part at the end is super nostalgic
Childhood memories. 🍿

I fully agree with you
Our Regal, La Mirada, still has that one, only modified slight.y.
I can literally smell the popcorn watching this
Burst into tears
Wait A Minute That’s Not AMC! 😀ITS REGAL CINEMAS
just as a fact the name of the guy who produced the music for this is barry aiken. he lives in idaho i actually used to take piano lessons from him.
i'm glad they brought this back. I wish they based a real roller coaster off of this, and you could ride it night for full effect.
i always feel so hapoy when i see this
It's the same thing for me when I saw Star Trek Into Darkness, and Man of steel on Sunday.
I miss going to the movies so much 😭
I am using this for my Home Theater Setup and now am looking to make my own commercials with background music.
I don't remember the theater, but I remember an advert like this at the theater, big red lips, a top hat and tapping the top hat with a magic wand.
United Artist Theaters used that promo. Its here on TH-cam. They later got bought out by Regal.
I like the newer one, but this one is JUST SO FREAKIN’ NOSTALGIC
I use this Regal Cinemas video for TV movies and for my stories.
It really does set the mood.
that last popcorn always used to scare me lol
jesus what are we even doing here we cant get enough of this at the movie theatre we really all are taking it out of our personal time and looking up the REGAL CINEMAS PRE SHOW THING i didnt even know thats what it was called apparently this is a pre show...never knew that okay i am just going to go cry myself to sleep tonight because i have to live with the fact i actually spent time out of my life on this page on the internet
amazing😀 best vocation ever
All I need is a large size popcorn and drink lol
I really miss this pre-show trailer.
I FEEL SO NOSTALGIC!!!!
I miss this damn opening XD
I’d gladly welcome this back over the annoying theater audience one we have now
man if only this played in imax theaters at my regal cinema that i go to.
who ever said lets get rid of this in theaters and put up that new one needs to go see a doctor b/c he crazy XD
I remember this as well!
I saw this when I saw Take Me Home Tonight a few weeks ago
I love movies and theaters 🎬 🎞 🎦 📽 🎥 📼 📀 💿
2002-2004
I always raise my hands as the coaster goes over the hill.
Really great
I think the company that made the intro licensed it to other cinema chains around the world. Cinépolis in Mexico also had the roller coaster.
Definitely possible, Regal's former "Silence Cell Phones" intro was also used by Cinemark and some independent theaters.
If you don't turn up your bass all the way to replicate the loud theater surround sound when watching this, You're not watching this video right.
Clayton (Tarzan 1999) - Alignment, Neutral, later bad.
I've never needed popcorn and cherry coke so bad!
this makes me smile ;)
This sound awesome in RPX Theaters!!!!
They should bring this back!
Perfection.
Wow that has really changed over the years
I saw this at The Lion King in 3D back in 2011.
Staunton Mall, where are you?
They have an updated version now.
I used to love this Lol
Short but sweet.
my local regal cinemas played this right before the passion of the christ
anyone know the commercial to turn your phones on silent that plays on regal theaters that impersonates high school musical and star wars? i want to know what the song is called they r dancing to that says something about "after our first kiss". it's new. and i so miss this!
I remember “The Dark Knight” and “Taken” this was played!
Who wants to see a movie and or video game based off this intro!
"thumbs up!"
It's in 2000's Version!
As seen from The Powerpuff Girls Movie!
Taken from Peter Pan 2: Return to Neverland (2002)
they show this at the Regal Cinema here in Eugene! XD
Taken From Evangelion 2.0: You Are (Not) Alone (2009) Regal Entertainment Group
