    Thank you so much for this video. I haven't even signed up to Toastmasters yet, my first meeting is tonight and I'm already nervous about this speech lol. That's how bad the fear is for me. This is why I'm forcing myself to go to Toastmasters because it holds me back so much. I HAVE to get over this.

      It's a year later now, have you kept up with toastmasters? If so, any positive results. I'm planning to volunteer to do an ice breaker and I'm terrified

      An update for me, I'm not currently in Toastmasters because I ended up buying a house out of state and moving. Currently I'm a full-time student and work full-time so I can't add something else to my plate unfortunately. With all that said, I did do my Icebreaker and I was nervous as hell but I got through it. The general vibe in Toastmasters meetings is very warm, welcoming, and encouraging. You genuinely get the sense that they're there to help you so even if you're standing on stage stuttering like I did (which makes me even more nervous and stutter even more) I looked around the room and just saw friendly nonjudgmental faces rooting me on. My body typically goes into fight or flight mode, and in that moment I had to tell myself that I am not in any danger, look at these friendly faces, calm the fuck down. I managed to get through my speech. I HIGHLY recommend joining Toastmasters. It's the perfect environment to really put your fear to the test and gain some knowledge on how to give a speech. With that knowledge comes experience that you gain in the meetings and then you get confident in your abilities. Confidence trumps nerves. As soon as I'm done with school I fully intend on getting back to it because the little experience I got made lasting changes. I can't imagine if I was still going regularly how much better I would be! Good luck guys! You totally got this!

    Awesome presentation and it's straight to the point. All areas for an icebreaker were clearly explained in this presentation. Being a Toastmaster who has presented his icebreaker, I do know how great one feels if he/she had prepared and practiced his/her speech beforehand. Thumbs up to you!

    Thank you so much!! I laughed when you said "just get the that first speech" because that's what I've been telling myself when I get so nervous I feel like quitting. "Just get through that first speech. They're really supportive. They'll understand."

    I want to join said club ;-;
    My body hungers for talking in front of an audience, GODS TAKE ME TO MY HAPPY PLACE!!!
    I need it in my life!!
    I write tons of different speeches of many different topics. I love it. Though if I were to pick one of the many I’ve written I’d go with my speech “Failure is not your enemy”
    It’s pretty interactive as I detail why failing at some things isn’t really, “bad”. I narrate the COUNTLESS times I failed at something and how I always felt overwhelmed (even if it was at something insignificant.) It’s shows how I fear getting frustrated. I repulse being frustrated. It blocks my thoughts and renders me incapable of accomplishing a task as I fall prey to my anger.
    But oh well, since I’m not even 1,000 miles close to a place like this, I guess I’ll have to keep my speeches to myself. I guess it’s the fate of someone like me. Stranded in this archipelago, this shell of an island. Though I must say Puerto Rico is a really good place if you’re into nature.
    Crud, out of context! Again...
