This calls for my favourite horror joke of all time: If you feel alone, watch a scary movie in the dark in a closed room. Soon you won’t feel along anymore.
One thing I didn't notice on the first viewing was Samara's response in the hospital interview. She says the same thing in both versions, but they mean different things. "You don't mean to hurt anyone, do you?" "But I do." The first time, it's presented as her apologizing, feeling ashamed of the fact that in spite of her wishes, she does end up hurting people. After Rachel rescues Samara, we see this interview again. This time, "but I do" means "No, I absolutely do mean to hurt people."
I'm not going through 400+ comments to see if anyone else has talked about this, but fun fact, if you watched The Ring on VHS, it opened with the ring video. That was the first thing on the tape. And then showed previews which took away some of the creepiness, but there was a proper oh fuck moment when it started.
3:08 Whenever my family brings up The Ring, my dad talks about the time he went to see the movie in theaters for the first time. At the end of the movie, someone from the seats stood up and shouted 'PG-13 MY ASS!!'. It's funny almost every time he brings it up.
I am 100% down with the aimless Podcast. Pick the MOST coherent David Lynch movie you can, and GO TO TOWN ON IT. I'd be down for 3-4 hours of "....so....we don't know why, but there's a person behind a dumpster? And they talk about it in the diner. Then they go to look at it. And the guy straight-up DIES from a heart attack?!?" ::channeling James for that line::
I’m also thinking about maybe Pamela Voorhees? Could she be a snapped Hufflepuff? As far as we know, she was a good mother to Jason, and then when he died, she only wanted to avenge him and close the camp.
DaleIsALoser I like that idea but then again I just really like the idea of more Hufflepuff villains in my movies. Stop all this Slytherin discrimination and have more diversity in my movies 😁
I see as either Jason or Leatherface as a Hufflepuff. Both loyal to their families and hard workers too ,fulfilling their murder tasks and with Leatherface helping with the family in ways. And Jason is a great finder. Although 2009 Jason could be Ravenclaw, with all those traps and methods he uses. I think horror villians have more a variety than just Slytherin.
Mashtyx I was saying that John helped Amanda with her drug abuse and kept her clean (we know that from the Saw 6 flashback even if she self harmed afterwards) and in Johns mind he is helping people through his ‘rehabilitation’ as he calls it in Saw 5 which for him justifies his crimes in the name of a greater good (again this would be Johns interpretation not anyone like you or me, hopefully). Hope this cleared up any confusion with my comment.
Mashtyx he might be a murderer, but his traps/challenges helped people rehabilitate and they all really learned something so you could call it murder, but it really made them changed their life and think about their mistakes,(the traps from Hoffmann and Amanda were only for murder)
I was checking the comments to See If Anyone Said Jigsaw, John Kramer Or Saw 4th Comment John Kramer Because They Only Said Someone Who Thought They Were Doing Good Or Had Good Intentions Not Someone Who Was Actually Doing Good All I Have To Say Is “YAY!! Jigsaw Was In The Comment”
I was also thinking john kramer, his intentions are to make people appreciate their lifes, which is a good thing. The execution however, might not be, but yea, horror villains still kill people so, i might say john Kramer is a hufflepuff ;-)
For the Hogwarts houses thing at the beginning, wouldn't Chucky be considered a Ravenclaw? (Quick wit, smart and intellect) And would Leatherface be a Hufflepuff? (Loyal, hard work and dedication)
My aunt was babysitting me and she needed to go to the store so she was like “hey wanna watch a movie?” So she put on the ring and left me alone to watch it 😂
Watching this solely because I absolutely love this film & wanna relive it but I can't afford the weeks worth of nightmares that actually rewatching it would gaurantee
This was the first horror movie I ever watched. My cousins told me about it when I was younger, and what sold me on it was when they told me that they had nightmares for weeks. It has a very special place in my heart
Does anyone notice how each time you see the footage from the tape, a little bit more is added to the very end. The last time you see it, you just see Samara’s hair start to come out of the well before it cuts to static.
The Ring is one of my all time favorite horror movies, saw it in the cinema when i was 16 and it scared me to death. I had bought a dvd earlier that day and when i came i looked at the tv, looked at the dvd and i just said fuck it and went to bed. The thing that fucked me up (except that fucking creepy opening ( i had not seen any japanese horror at the time so this was all brand new to me) was the funeral when the mom goes i saw her face... that image burned itself into my mind so bad i literally did not sleep well for 2 weeks straight, every night when i turned of the lights i saw that face . Of course i bought the movie the day it came out on dvd and even the menu creeps me out. To this day (im 34 now) i still struggle to watch it alone because my mind ALWAYS go back to that first time i saw it.. With others its a breeze but you will never find me all alone in a dark room watching the ring... i just freak myself out.
Ok, I know im very late to this, but i geeked when you all went "Ring-day Eve! Yayyy!!!" and just continued with the story HAHAHAHAA. Love the KC's, Podcast and your other content. My favorite channel since October. Keep working hard James & Chels!

Watched this movie for the first time with my brother and cousin. After that final tape clip played and the credits rolled our house phone started ringing. It was my dad calling to check in but I was a scared ass little kid 😂
So fucking proud of you James, watched since day one of this channel I can’t believe you’re almost at a million, keep making me and others, but more importantly yourself happy, you’re fucking awesome
I love this movie!! Definitely watch the japanese ringu and ring zero as well. In the japanese one they do let you like sadako/samara as well, because if I remember correctly in the prequel she joins this theatre group and she gets blamed for murders that happen there or something like that and you actually feel sorry for her
The first time I watched the ring, I was watching it in my bedroom by myself. Right after the tape sence, my mother walked in with the phone and was like " yeah, yeah here she is." Gives me the phone " its for you" I was kinda freaked out
I know this episode is a year old, but as a Washington resident I can confirm that the western half of the state is foggy and bluish green 95% of the time.
I remember watching the original Japanese ring when I was like 7 years old and watching it with my parents, I got scared shitless and I ended up not being able to go to sleep that night. But after recently watching it, it really was not scary because of the horrible quality of the film.
I remember watching this movie in high school with my aunt and she legitimately made a copy of it cause that's how scared she was lol I also enjoyed the Grudge

We used to copy tapes back in the 80s. That thing where the movie would turn deep red was called Macrovision. The first movie to have it was "Back To The Future". My friend figured out how to bypass it using an old Commodore 64 monitor!
The Ring was not only the scariest movie I had seen, but the face turned out to be super important to me, personally. This movie helped me realize some issues I had at the time. Happily, I don't think I have those problems anymore-but the movie remains special to me.
My grandmother had the two-deck VCR and made me copies of tapes we rented for 99 cents, not from Blockbuster or Movie Gallery, but a now-defunct grocery store called Delchamps. She freaked out on me when I made promises to all my fifth grade friends that I could get everyone a copy of The Mummy.

Guys Frankenstein is hufflepuff, considering the logic used there was “slytherin bad, hufflepuff nice” Because the difference is actually ambition for the snakey ones, and loyalty for badger boys
How is Frankenstein loyal though? He's a young self-absorbed man with a God Complex who takes zero responsibility for his own actions no matter who it hurts. Like literally he's a cowardly man who literally would rather shrug off responsibility than save his loved ones...and still thinks he's the real victim. I would agree Frankenstein isn't a Slytherin because he isn't cunning, in fact, he's kinda low on any positive attribute at all. I guess Ravenclaw cause he's book smart....seriously, while Dr. Frankenstein thinks a lot of himself he doesn't really have much going for him.
Dexter could be a Hufflepuff. He has a code. He is hard working. He is extremely patient. Only kills criminals. Loyal to family. 💛🖤. Not a horror movie but he came to mind.
Thank you for getting them to do this movie Anna. Great movie! I feel like it’s gonna be known as a classic. But also it’s a remake so idk if it can be a real classic. Not sure what makes a classic a classic lol
I wonder what happens when Samara has to tell a deaf person that they have 7 days😂, or if the person doesn’t have a phone😂, I wonder if Samara ever has a bad day on the job and has a cold or something, so she can’t do the calls, so she has an assistant that covers her. I wonder if Samara’s ever missed her appointments with ppl every now and again, so they get 8 days to live instead of 7🤔

*@I'mNotCrazy JustALittleWeird:* I like Dale and Tucker; I don't really think they were ever meant to be seen as villains; the people that died in the movie didn't die at the hands of the main characters...
Leatherface is the secret Hufflepuff. C'mon, he kills to protect his family and keep his family alive, or because his family tells him to kill idk. But Leatherface is 100% the secret Hufflepuff.
I watched this movie in theaters with my old bff, Freshman year of HS. I've watched this movie over a dozen times, but I will never forget when my friend got jump scared so bad that she flung her full tray of nachos into the seat in front of her lolol
My mom went to watch the ring in a empty theater, by herself, thinking it was a romantic movie.

Good thing they filmed it in Seattle then
So that’s why twilight was completely blue. Damn.
Stop taking about a wet moist girl in “the ring”

I like Dale and Tucker; I don't really think they were ever meant to be seen as villains; the people that died in the movie didn't die at the hands of the main characters...
Leatherface is the secret Hufflepuff. C'mon, he kills to protect his family and keep his family alive, or because his family tells him to kill idk. But Leatherface is 100% the secret Hufflepuff.
I would totally watch a 2 hour livestream of Remus and or Lucy just sitting doing nothing
Love your channel mannn!!!!! Keep up the good work! Greetings from the Netherlands😉
A good Hufflepuff horror movie killer would be Jigsaw. He sometimes has good intentions...
OMG I toke my tv out of my room after watched this movie. This was sooooo creepy. Loved the podcast
One of my favorite horror films of all time.
Pamela Voorhees I could see as a Hufflepuff because intentions were for the good of Jason because if not for Jason everything would be fine.
I watched this movie in theaters with my old bff, Freshman year of HS. I've watched this movie over a dozen times, but I will never forget when my friend got jump scared so bad that she flung her full tray of nachos into the seat in front of her lolol
