You have given me such wonderful ideas about what to carry in my EDC. Love all of these and would really appreciate more of these. Like that you are demonstrating how and why you have what you have. But,I NEED MORE IDEAS!!! Please!
@urbanprepper I have been watching your videos for about 1 month and I can't stop watching them they are so good your Altoids survival Tin are my favorite videos you are easily the most underrated TH-cam ever keep it up dude 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏿👍🏿
TheUrbanPrepper She wants you to put magnets on your undies ????....thats ever so slightly kinky.....is she not satisfied with the standard leopard skin posing pouch.????It could hazardous too...imagine approaching anything metal....cars,cutlery,paper clips etc,etc,etc....!!!!!
Thanks for the update I appreciate it very much! I also wanted to let every one know that I found several magnets much like the magcredibles at my local Home Depot. Some are just a touch bigger. They also had very flat magnets that looked like very small washer with a hole in the middle. The increased surface area make them work very well. Thanks again!
Great kit! I think you were a spy in a past life. Excellent to see gaffer tape being used instead of crappy old duck tape. Gaffers tape is SO much better
Thanks for the tutorial. Knowing what's in the tins is nice, but how to modify them is at least as important if not more, since regardless of content, modification is the same. (still definitely keep us updated as the contents change. Your EDC vids are my favorite. Especially the EDC tins)
Awesome-I like what I see and see what I like! Even seeing you take everything out and repacking it back in still seems almost "Magic". I really appreciate the thought and effort you put into making this video. Listing the names of all the items and providing everyone with the necessary information to find them-as well as a price list-was truly thoughtful and very appreciated. I eat Altoids by the bushel, so I plan on making several of these "kits" varying the contents to try and be ready for different scenarios. Again, Thank You Sir!!! Respectfully-John Archer
The amount of thought you put into organization is dizzying! How long did it take to figure that all out?! Most useful EDC tin I've ever seen. Also, just to give you a laugh, I followed one of your hot-links for the micro-tins. Well on the Amazon page (as always) its shows "customers who bought this also bought..." and -no joke- it was an item by item list of your Altoids kit! Nice job!
TheUrbanPrepper great video. That kit is awesome! The small ratchet, how cool would it be if the handle also accepted bits then you would have a mini screwdriver as well. Downloaded the PDF and I have most of the gear to assemble that kit less the magnets. Thanks for posting.
Tactical Training Group Thank! I totally forgot, but YES, the ratchet handle DOES magenetically accept bits AND the bit extender. With the Wiha bit extender added to the ratchet handle, you now have a 5.5" long screwdriver.
For extra security, you should have a Ranger band around the tin to keep it closed which will also keep the tin from sliding around in whatever you're carrying it in.
Hello again, thanks for the video! The thing I would suggest is laminating the picture and quotes, phone numbers.....I'm trying to think of how to make this tin waterproof, thanks again! xo
great vid my friend love the use of the magnets, have a basic survival tin and never would of thought using magnets like that before, make everything very easy to get to and neat aswell
...Great A.T.. For sure with magnets, a compass should be very simple to make.... BTW T.U.P... are the magnets strong enough to stick to like a car....or a pole ?? I 've also started to use magnets for EDC with the carabiners i use...
I was gonna ask about the magnets affecting the SD cards, but looks like it's covered. Anyway, great vid as always. I would like to see in the mini-tins; are they (the most recent version) covered in another video?
That has to be one of the sweetest little toolkits I've ever seen, well done that man :D If you don't mind, I have a few queries (more by the moment - I'm trying to help, honest!): Is the Altoids tin "water resistant", i.e. do you use gaffer tape or similar to make a gasket on the underside of the lid & seal the hinges? Personally, I wrap my kit inside a ziplock bag and include water purification tablets inside. Do you think it could be preferable to use a self-tapping screw instead of a nail at the center of the roll of gaffer tape? You have bit drivers, but can the leatherman pull a nail? Anecdotally, I see a lot more square-head screws than any other around town. Have you tested the effect (if any) of storing your digital media near a magnet? I know it's a small magnet, but it seems rather powerful. Have you considered including Paracetamol for its side effect of bringing down fevers?
cnawan Thanks for the comment! I used to be a lot more concerned with making these tins water resistant. However, I’ve found that I’ve never had an issue with it being exposed to water. Plus, I don’t enjoy periodically replacing the gasket underneath the lid as it wears over time. I stopped carrying water purification tablets in these tins because I don’t use them for EDC purposes. If this was more of a survival tin I would definitely carry them. Good point regarding the screw. I just used the nail because it was tin and readily available. I imaging I would have less tape if using a screw, so I would need to figure out what is more valuable for my needs. Modern storage devices (SD cards, USB flash drives) are immune to magnets. No consumer grade magnet is powerful enough to alter the electrons in that kind of memory. I’ve done a lot of testing to confirm. I’ll probably do a video in the future. I have not looked into Paracetamol but I certainly will.
Sweet, thanks for the interesting response :) Perhaps a needle would be more useful to your kit than a screw and would allow for more tape? Re. Paracetamol: It's called Acetaminophen in the US. (I had to look up Motrin on Wikipedia, ha) I guess my "survival tin > edc toolkit" mindset is coloured by my experience in the 2011 earthquake here in NZ. Shelter, sewerage and the water supply were the main concerns, hence my love of water purification tabs. On the plus side, I now know lots about impromptu latrines :) Best wishes to you and your loved ones
If you got a really skinny one, could a telescoping pen fit inside the bit extender? Like one of the true utility pens? Or maybe you could stick your gaffer tape nail inside it and have all that room for another tool. I'm curious: is the leatherman you use thinner than a squirt?
You did my apology but you didn't mention my name lol! I wasn't around in the prepping YT community last year when you uploaded your EDC backpack and EDC! Are you gonna do an updated video for each of these this year?
Joe Betts My bad. This video was filmed at 3:00am and I did miss a few details. Thanks again for reminding me about the Gaffer Tape. It's definitely an important part of my kits.
I love these videos and you have provided me with a new hobby I didn't know existed. I have many Altoids tins, being both a jewelry maker and an Altoids lover..... Question: You keep mentioning a PDF but I don't see a link to one, on either the 2.2 kit video or the magnetic modifications one - did it disappear or did I miss it? Also, I can't find Magcredible Magnets anywhere..... Can you suggest a source? Many thanks!
+Francie Reed Thank you so much for the kind words, Francie! I've heard that the Magcredible Magnets have been sold out for a while. It looks like The Prepper Community cleaned them out! Awesome! I'm currently looking for alternative solutions. The PDF link should be a hyperlink to a mediafire site that will download the PDF.

I made my own altoids tin with the magnets. Haven't shot the video yet but will soon. I ordered the magnets and micro compartments from amazon but found the small tins took up too much space and I'll find another use for them.

Kimberly Redding They won't be affected by consumer grade magnets. If you have a magnet powerful enough to pull the iron out of your blood, then that would affect the electrons in the flash memory. Otherwise, you'll be fine. :)
Ok. Thanks. I have always heard how harmful magnets were for computers, and I wasn't sure how that would effect computer memory sources like USB and SD cards.
What a great detailed video. I love your EDC setup so much I am practically copying your entire design with one adjustment. I am including 4mm precision Phillips, flat, and torx bits into one of the tins as well. This way I will have two small tins with bits. One with standard size bits, the Wiha pokit pak, and the other with 4mm precision bits. phillipzz1 Hmmmm.... Not a bad idea. It's been a while since I've done a giveaway. I'll look into pricing it out. Maybe I can giveaway one on each social media site (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)?
Gaston Quiroga 1) I haven't used them in 15 years and don't drink out of them for EDC purposes (that would make a funny video idea though!). 2) I don't know. You might need an actual thermal gun.
Gaston Quiroga Condoms are often used in compact survival kits, to be used for transporting water, given they are compact, strong, and really quite stretchy. If you have time to use them for their primary purpose, you aren't in an emergency :-)
Actually, they do mix; unless you're using a 1980s floppy disk. Flash drives do not behave the same way. Unless you work in a laboratory with a large magnet powerful enough to pull out your teeth fillings and the iron in your blood, you won't have anything to worry about. Consumer grade magnets are not strong enough to modify the electrons in flash memory.
UP is right about flash drives, for sure. Neodymium magnets can destroy things like credit cards and VHS tapes (remember those?). To erase a magnetic hard drive, though, you'd have to find a magnet stronger than the coercivity of the drive. On a recently-made magnetic spinning drive, that's not going to be easy. You're more likely to bend the arm inside the drive than erase the contents on the platters.
Patrick Seymour a quick pass is unlikely to cause any disruption in data. However, long term exposure (even with magnets this small) would cause data loss. Speaking strictly of magnetic storage mediums (VHS, HDD, credit card strips, cassette tapes, 3.5' floppy disc, etc...).
swindle2345 As long as you aren't dealing with 1980's/90's floppy disks, your flash based storage devices are perfectly safe. You would need a magnet strong enough to pull the iron our of your blood to affect the electrons in a USB flash drive or SD card. Most of us probably don't have a magnet that strong.
You have given me such wonderful ideas about what to carry in my EDC. Love all of these and would really appreciate more of these. Like that you are demonstrating how and why you have what you have. But,I NEED MORE IDEAS!!! Please!

If you have time to use them for their primary purpose, you aren't in an emergency :-)
engineeredlifeform Oooohhh i though it was an expression for sex
Challenge! Fit the pen back in without removing anything else!
We won't care we watch videos like 30 min to an hour lol 😂😂😂😂😂
Mind blown #🎊
Magnets and magnetic harddrives don't mix brother! But as long as you only place tools there you will be fine! Good idea
Patrick Seymour Regardless, this sounds like a fun new video topic to discuss and test! I’ll start planning something out.
Patrick Seymour "Yeah B*tch! Magnets!" ~Jesse Pinkman :)
My $20 always seems to get used too. ;)
Tetris Champion 2015
Magnets and storage devices, that cant be safe...correct me if i'm wrong
swindle2345 As long as you aren't dealing with 1980's/90's floppy disks, your flash based storage devices are perfectly safe. You would need a magnet strong enough to pull the iron our of your blood to affect the electrons in a USB flash drive or SD card. Most of us probably don't have a magnet that strong.
I just found out today that Zebra has discontinued the telescopic pens :(.
+William Todd (williamtodd) Ouch! That sucks. :(
hey william go look at true utility they make one that works just as well, it was in T.U.P old altoids tin
You played a lot of Tetris as a child, didn't you?
Be carefull with some kind of memory-cards/sticks, not all of them are good near by magnets... ;-)
#doyouevenedcbro? #likeaboss
What about sugru magnets ? Those are pretty powerful ! Can i use them to magnetize the box without damaging the flash drive?
sugru.com/magnet-kit
Lol OCD much?
that 20$ is useless in that tin
he just said he used it, thus being not useless
Can u talk slower
Coltin Darnley Yes, but then my videos will be 30 minutes long. :)
