I remember reading this article online, I was surprised especially by the Bullitt, the light weight 2 valve really delivered a punch 🥊 at that time, I honestly think that the intake manifold really helped the 2v to breathe more efficiently. Great video brother I really enjoyed it 🙏🏻
Awesome vid I own an 01 Bullitt and it’s honestly pretty quick for what it is it runs strong mainly just needs to be cosmetically repaired and I’m getting the itch to do so and make it a beautiful car again!
Thanks for making this video, Justin. I've never forgotten this test. I first saw it when my friend got into Mustangs in 2007, after he bought a blue '99 V6. We lusted over these cars, and he drove that V6 as though it were one of these three, everywhere he went. Now that I have an '01 Cobra, I cant help but wonder why they gave it such a slouchy rear gear ratio, for a car that was suppposed to be competitive, as well as the brand's showroom attraction of that year. It begs the question, did Ford know the Bullitt performed better with less power and for less money, or did this fact slip through the cracks unknown from a lack of testing? Its a very obvious slap in the face to all those who spent the money ordering the Cobra of the same year, and would be the equivalent of today's Bullitt outdoing a Shelby GT350. I think the Cobra should have come with a gear ratio that would make better use of its power. Im not sure what that would be, coming from the factory, but the same 355 as the Mach1 got would likely have made sense.
I bought my 04 mach 1 in 2007 stock but not stock wheels. It came with a dyno sheet from previous owner. The results i remember being 288hp at wheels. I was a little surprised. Now it has catback flowmaster super 44,4.10 gears, a different h pipe with high flow cats. Its a peppy car for what it is. Fun cruiser.
I remember some magazine articles got 12.9 ETS out of The Mach 1 the best my car did at the track automatic equipped 2004 Mach 1 with just MagnaFlow exhaust and silencer removed no spare tire no Jack pretty much everything I could take out of the trunk except for the Mach 460 amps it did 13.3 ETS
In the 99 cobras defense it was even stated in that exact article switch from the stock 327 to 373 or even 410 gears it would have took out both cars or at least matched The Mach 1
The article did say that. But what if you do 373's or 410's to the mach 1? The mach 1 would be even quicker. The only way to really know is to have 355's in both cars.
@@justin.c_svtthe Mach is gonna do better with a 3.55 than the cobra they had stronger mid range because of the navigator intake cams. They had slightly more peak power and still had more torque so the taller gears didn't hurt the Mach as much.
LOL, I remember that Car and Driver review of the Mach 1 and thought it was super odd at the time. That was Brock Yates, the guy who created the Cannonball Run. I honestly expected him to love that car. He must have been having a bad day. This comparison article of the three was the reason I got a Mach and a Bullitt. I very regrettably sold my low mile Mach 1 when I saw the writing on the wall for my last job. I did keep my Bullitt though and am planning to snag another Mach 1 before long.
Cool video! I have not seen this test and once again the Bullitt Performs better than people give it credit for. I love the 4v mach’s but the 2v is damn impressive for what it is and I get sick of everybody dogging on it. With virtually 0 budget for the Bullitt they knocked it out of the park wether by accident or on purpose the car is much more special than most think. The Bullitt gets totally overshadowed by the Cobra and Mach or anything with the SVT badge. As you know the Mach will always be my favorite but I love seeing these real tests and the proof is in the pudding the Bullitt is the little engine that could!!👍👍
I think the brakes are comparable between the 3 cars, the GT has bigger diameter pistons at I believe 38mm compared to 35mm but has a smaller rotor..The bigger cobra/mach rotor dissipates heat better and has better leverage due to the caliper being positioned further out so under heavy use the cobra/Mach brakes would probably shine..Also I think the Mach 1s engine weight is close to the bullit because of its aluminum block..I’m sure your aware of all of this, I just thought it was interesting all the different variables that come into play that may or may not make a difference or may or may not been tested thoroughly…
I remember the magazines would always smoke the tires of the fbodys and give the fbodys slower times and the mustangs always got the jump. Then real life comes along 4th gen ls fbodies ran high 12s low 13s they always rated 14s lol. Mustang wasn't even in the race in real life until gm dropped the fbody.
