    I live in the US and my fiance is in Legos. We have been looking for a cheap one-bedroom apartment for her to stay for the next two years. I plan on visiting her for about 3 months soon. We are on a tight budget right now but almost everything she has seen is either not ready yet or not very good. The few decent ones we found the landlord wanted a married couple in there so they would not let her live there by herself even though we're engaged. We are hoping we can find something soon. If you know of anything around 500,000 a year let me know. The small place she is stays now is only 230,000 a year. Thanks

      @@thenigeriannomad thank you. We found a two-bedroom for 500,000 a year just needs to be cleaned up a little bit. It has water and electricity but of course the electricity is not all the time. It's nicer and bigger than where she staying now. Thank you

    If you're going to demo the kitchen you may have 2 options for the washing machine/dryer...run plumbing from the sink into the pantry for it or do it the "UK" way and install a combo unit within the kitchen itself...it definitely needs to be brightened up and the two-tone cabinetry needs to go...tfs...

    • @thenigeriannomad
      @thenigeriannomad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the UK style might be better unless we leverage the pantry for the washer/dryer. The two tone cabinet was actually growing on me. I think it could be fine if that theme is spread throughout the house . Hmmm. If we need to priortise where his money goes. thats gonna be the challenge. WHat color would you go with >?

    • @lizz741
      @lizz741 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thenigeriannomadI had a quick scroll through Good Housekeeping 😂... since it's a small space and an income property I would go conservative with white cabinets with bold dark cabinet hardware that is within the same color realm of the countertops you already have...and I agree the walls should be uniform also...thank you for allowing my input and I can't wait to see what was decided...tfs...

    Personally, I don't like the setup of the flat, the design wasn't carefully planned. The kitchen is too small for three bed flat. Having the washing/Dryer outside is a no no for me.The proposed position for the fridge will obstruct access to pantry. Also we need better artisans - The tiling and painting terrible finishing - waste of money.

    • @colleenlawlor2205

      I really feel for the client .he will spend good money to make that apartment beautiful .infact if I will advise the owner to inspect the pop well so it doesn't drop in the future . If he's on the last floor he needs to check the wood used for the roof and make sure the pop was well attached to it . There is a whole lot to say .

    I understand the majority of dwellings in Africa have AC wall units, but is central AC with ductwork extremely rare, or is it typically only found in commercial buildings?

    • @thenigeriannomad
      @thenigeriannomad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very rare in tropical climate areas like Nigeria. UI have asked this question a milion times. ha i talked to a construction person here in US and they said it is because in US they build more with wood so it is easy to lay out all the duck work and piping through every room and keep everything centralized. Whereas, it is a lot more challenging with cement block type buildings

    • @fromnaija
      @fromnaija ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Apart from difficulty of laying ducts and pipes in concrete block buildings, I think split air conditioners are better for the maintenance culture in Nigeria. With split units you are sure the whole system does not collapse at once.

    • @otm777
      @otm777 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thenigeriannomad I also forgot about Nigeria’s inconsistent power supply. Central AC draws a lot of power and not ideal for such environments. A split system makes much more sense esp for generator backups.

    I can't just keep quiet about this . Pls bayo this are my own snag list for the apartments 1) Do a pressure test for the plumbing pipes to see there are no leakages before you re-tile or paint the house . 2)check that the pop is well installed to prevent collapse later 3) I would prefer the clients change all sockets and switches ,they look inferior. 4) Check all windows that the close and align properly so rain doesn't enter through the window even when closed . Make sure the windows have drain holes whereby water can drain out 5) for better wall finish . I would advise the walls are re-skimmed before final painting 6) Tv points should be included in the other rooms as most air bn b have tvs in the room too unless the owner doesn't want in his own . I hope with this point I have not omitted any other correction and I hope and pray the client has money to rectify all this issues for the smooth running of his business

    I feel like low key you can tell how much WORK this apartment needs but you just don’t want to “over stress it”😄 .
    It really does need a lot of work though, I personally feel they didn’t do justice to the inside at all!
    From the painting, to the fittings and yes.. those bathroom tiles.
    You sure do have some work cut out for you. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the place 🙂

    I like the apartment over all. Agreed about the kitchen....needs more continuity with colour scheme. I would actually place the fridge in the pantry as opposed to that wall. The kitchen already appears small and it seems the fridge would take up too much floor space and awkwardly jutting out from the wall. I like your idea of the hanging light fixture in the dining area to separate the two spaces. I don't quite understand the mindset of leaving the work unfinished....like you said compared to North American standards. Why is that? Do you know? If the contractor is asked to come back to finish the job properly, does it cost again?

    • @thenigeriannomad
      @thenigeriannomad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm. putting the fridge in the pantry is not a bad idea. I do think you are right. that kitchen is small. And in terms of quality and finishing I dont know why . It seems they rush some of these projects I am thinking and no one comes to do a final walkthrough i guess

    Looking at the map , that place looks really far away from the main part of the island, Victoria island, lekki phase 1. Hope it works out as a short let, I guess this will suit someone who leaves around that area. On the positive side, it’s not a bad apartment, not my choice, but if the price is right. Cool
