    I have just discovered your channel. I love what you did with the drop cloths. I saw the rings that you used and was wondering if they were really sturdy enough to hold the drop cloths. I saw then in Walmart and wondered if they would hold up.

    • @MeganBell
      @MeganBell  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FireStarter2013 they’re a little flimsy to be honest. They hold the drop cloths, but if my window were any wider, I think they would start to droop. I think it depends on how wide your window is. If you have regular width windows then you can go cheap and get away with it. But if you have extra wide windows, I’d pay a little extra for a heavier duty curtain rod. Thanks for watching! 🤗

    I love them Megan!!! That looks like 4 yards of material in one panel (maybe more, it would be interesting to measure them), and you would really be shocked if you bought drapery fabric to sew them. OMG. That heavy duty fabric is $30 and up a YARD. That doesn't include the lining or the time to sew. So actually purchasing the drapes in BBB is a really good deal especially if you have the 20% off coupon. I sewed the valances for my kitchen, and they only used about 3.5 yards of each fabric, but I used quilting cotton on sale (which a super cheap way to go) at about $5 a yard for the print and $2 a yard for the lining. So I did both kitchen windows for about $24.50. They wanted $20 for a crappy valance at BBB. I like really full curtains so I would have needed several of their valances squished together to get the same look. Probably 5 of them at least. So it did wind up saving me a money. And I absolutely love them!! They are super retro looking which works for my place. I love these in your place! They are just perfect for your style, and what a clever way to make them!

    • @MeganBell
      @MeganBell  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When you compare the drop cloths to the cost of heavy duty drape material it is a huge difference! Although I bet making them your self would still be cheaper than some of the prices in the stores for drapes. I just can’t afford to clothe my windows in the finest materials just yet!! Lol
      Your curtains you made are adorable and one day I’m going to learn to sew so I can try to keep up with you!! ❤️

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very few things can be made for less money than buying them outright. Especially if it's an import. No way I could compete with the price on the curtains in BBB because I checked them out last week to see. But I came out ahead on the valances because I wanted them to be super gathered, and that did work out a little bit cheaper. Also, it's very time consuming! So when you factor your time, it's definitely not saving you anything. But it's definitely more special when you DIY, for sure.

    • @MeganBell
      @MeganBell  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      time.keeps.ticking into.the.future. Thank you! And I totally understand that. I found that adding the amount of bleach that I did sped the process up but you may be able to add less and just let it soak for longer. I didn’t want to skip this process because the drop cloths I purchased from Home Depot were quite dark. A dark grey. Once they were bleached and dry they were almost as light as my white couch. Good luck and thank you for watching!

      @MeganBell  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ms Harv I hung them right below where we installed our crown mounding, maybe an inch below. I like mine to be high up near the ceiling. That’s why the drop cloths are an inexpensive solution because I still want them to brush the floor.

    Hi Megan, I hope you can answer my question: Why does it look lighter at the bottom of the curtains? - Do you have 2 curtains: one sheer and the dropcloth behind? - They look beautiful against your wall paint color.

    • @MeganBell
      @MeganBell  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi maya, it’s because the drop cloth is folded over. So it looks lighter at the bottom.

    • @kirlygirl7863
      @kirlygirl7863 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Maya, Megan didn't cut and sew the fabric to the correct size for her windows, thus the unusual appearance.
      However, if you get the clip hangers like she suggests, you could cut the fabric to the correct size, leaving just a little extra inch or so at the top that you could fold over to the back of the curtain top to avoid the variation of sun penetration at the bottom as Megan chose.
      If the fold at the top doesn't hold well and you don't have a sewing machine or the patience to hand sew the hem at the top, a little fabric hemming tape would do the trick - or just sew it down by hand at the top here and there, just enough to hold it in place.
      I can vouch for the fabric she used. It's very good quality. I used it for a shower curtain which gave the room a kind of beach sand color that went nicely with the beachy theme in the room.
      Unless you have city services for your home's septic system I would not recommend using that much bleach because the usual home septic system relies on bacteria to breakdown the materials that are flushed down the system. Bleach kills that bacteria which could result in some very unpleasant things coming back up the system in the future.
