34:15 The bumpers on cars actually are there to specifically prevent this stunt. When you have a collision you want the bumper and the nose of the car to absorb as much of the impact as possible. You especially don't want the other vehicle getting on top as it will crush the driving compartment.
Imagine all the random container ship worker on break on that ship in the background looking right and see a bunch of odd fellas suddenly launching a car into the air.

The movie also isn't pretending to be realistic. It's just throwing reality out the window and going with the rule of cool. I actually think that is better. A movie should either commit to realism and be very accurate or just push the suspension of disbelief as far as it can (though not too far) and just go for the most awesome thing possible.
At 47:07: With his colleague downed by a car accident and potentially injured, Jamie Hyneman saunters urgently to the scene, his rescue umbrella at the ready.
I don't think you can move your head enough for having an OK view, if you're wearing a helmet or neck protection. There's a reason insurance companies don't accept stuntmen as clients...
@@derGameplayDJ Yeah I was thinking about field of view but those racing helmets should give you enough. Or at least some sort of protection, idk. First I thought the stuntman is just so pro and chill that it's ok. But seeing Mythbusters trying with Jamie hitting his head and then Adam crashing, really scared me
@@BillFoster-st4hj I wasn't referring to field of view. The driver needs to keep their head upright. You can't move your neck like that with protection in the way. Why they didn't bother protecting the passenger is another story, though.
There once was a huge pileup serial crash on the autobahn in Germany In the middle of this huge pileup was a Saab 900 from the 80s 90s and it was the only car that did not have any damages at all thanks to its huge bumpers and the way it was built I dont know that its a myth or not but Top Gear made a special episode where they dropped a Saab 900 upside down from a huge crane and all the doors could still be opened then they did the same with a BMW from the same year and it was totally flattened maybe something for myth-busters to test if they are still around
I’m no expert but, to my mind, they were doing the car skiing all wrong. I’ve seen Russ Swift do the same stunt and he almost always tipped the car on the driver’s side wheels, thus the weight of the driver is lower and closer to the balance point. Jamie and Adam were doing it on the passenger side wheels, so the driver’s weight is higher up and thus it’s harder to control. It’s not impossible to do it on the passenger side but notice how the stunt driver had Jamie or Adam in the passenger seat when he did. That evened out the weight slightly and would have been easier.
I would love to see that they factor in the rears of the cars and what they are doing when one brakes the rear lifts and the other accelerates the rear goes down , that means both the angels of the cars are more pitched at the moment of contact and I think the mustang would fly.....😅
I am unaure of the timings, but did the Fast and Furious movies watch Mythbusters before some of their set-pieces. Like the wedge truck and the ramp car, did Mythbusters do them first?
Well the Fast and Furious film came out in 2001 and MythBusters didn't get started until 2003... But as to which Fast and Furious film had the ramp car stunt, that's some research I'm unprepared to do. I think the film did it first though? This example is from that Angelina Jolie film Wanted, which is from 2008. I'd hazard a guess and suggest much of the stunt coordination staff may have worked on both films. It's not exactly a huge pool of professionals who have those very specific skills and they'd be constantly informing each other from film set to film set. You're gonna get a lot of cross over.
@@C.Fecteau-AU-MJ13 I was more thinking specifically the Wedge truck for cutting through traffic and the specifically built ramp cars used in a specific film
@@TheTrueBatBrain Yeah not too sure about that... I'm a film and car nerd, but the Fast and Furious franchise is (ironically) not my special subject lol. They're just a little too heavy on the cringe for me.
@@TheTrueBatBrain because I'm a curious cat, I did some quick digging and... The "ramp car" from the film franchise I believe you're referring to is from Fast and Furious 6, which was filmed in 2012-13 and this episode is season 12 episode 12 which aired in 2014. Although I would be curious to see if many of the same stunt coordinators worked on Wanted and the Fast and Furious films. Bet they did, there's a good chance anyhow.
The jump car experiment was FLAWED from the start ....firstly the corvette ISNT BRAKING (however I was the right angle) the MUSTANG on the other hand was completely WRONG all you did was "lift" the car u needed to lower the back & raise the front, u guys really don't think shit through do you?? Plus both cars hit corner to corner
even if all of those parameters were exactly correct the test would probably still result in a "busted" rating. the car's gonna hit the bumper first and bumpers are designed to crumple upon collision so you would get a crash, not the big action movie flip.
The number of times that Alameda fence was hit by vehicles in the span of the series, you'd think it would have become an honourary cast member 😂😂😂😂
We need a YT short in memory of the fence.

At 47:00 you can see the stunt driver just chilling holding onto his hat, it's clear he's done this an awful lot of times

Making the intro all car clips/myths was a nice touch
8:36 Somebody should psychoanalyze the movie directors who absolutely must have this kind of CGI ballet in their films.
All i can say about run(a)way cars is that it was, "no off Fence" :D
I still feel that way Tory.......... They couldnt of got 2 rust buckets, had to be two cars that really didnt need much.........
Did I just hear Mustang and Corvette on Mythbusters? The same show that once covered the logo of a Porsche?
All depends who is a sponsor. Haven’t got to the end yet, but I’ve seen Ford as a sponsor in the past.
They covered the brand names.

How did they let them tip the car without helmets and neck braces? I see Adam and the stuntman did ok but it could have gone terrible wrong

They coulda used window nets at least, that wont hinder anything and prevent your head or arms from going thru the window area

given when this episode aired, i wonder if their desperate attempts to make a car ramp inspired a prop designer or two on Fast & Furious 6

that mustang?corvette myth, i think the tow cable kept the mustang from going up and over!
