The Genesis version of Art of Fighting retains the feel of the arcade game just as well as the other 16-bit versions. It's just too bad that the graphics and sound are so much worse than those other versions.
At least it didn't turn out like World Heroes!

King sounds like a screeching bird when she's defeated in this version, it's shrilly on the ears. SNES version censors Mac's Bar to Mac's Cafe, but that's why I bought the SFC version, because Mac don't own no damned cafe, but a bar instead (no SNK censorship this time on the SFC version, as Mac has his bar). ;)

I do not agree with your opinion. The SNES version has zoom, but its scenarios are worse, and the special moves are easier to make in Sega Genesis.

I own a copy of this, and both a 3 and 6 button 1st party Genesis pad, and no the special moves are not that easy to pull off.

I really dig Art of Fighting's 1980s aesthetics. Kinda shame the current SNK produces only KOF games these days!

New Samurai Shodown just came out, looks like they aren't just making KoF's.

SNK announced a new AoF at this year's EVO, promising a "return to South Town in it's full 70s glory brawling."

Actually if you put this and the SNES version side by side, the genesis version has better use of color. You'll really notice this in John's stage. Other than that though, I agree with everything else you said. It's the weakest of all ports, but it still maintains the arcade's look and feel. And yeah, really glad that it didn't turn out like that god-awful world heroes port, which I'm able to beat the whole game by just mashing ONE BUTTON. Three words to that port: Didn't. Even. Try.

I played the NeoGeo version 25 years ago, the first time I tried the Snes version I could not easily perform the special movements, and the graphics I did not like, because despite having zoom, the scenarios They were empty and lacking in details. The Sega Genesis version, despite the lack of Zoom, I like seemed closer to the original Neo Geo.

I believe World Heroes on Genesis was done by 1 guy, and they rushed him to finish it. Sega really should've given the guy more time to refine the game.

Sorry for the huge rant, but I have to get it out of my system lol.
It's not just better use of color, Genesis version has additional special effects which SNES port lacks and, bizarrely, does contains more details in the backgrounds themselves too! For example, Jack's stage on Genesis is more or less similar looking to the arcade one, but on SNES it missing characters and uses a rather simplistic looking floor with no parallax. Micky's stage has no second floor windows, balconies and graffiti on top of - again - bad looking floor too. They even removed an entire helicopter from John's stage on SNES and the one that was left looks like it uses tiles as if it was drawn for game on tiniest possible cartridge lol. That background also missing floor logo, boxes and reuses same exact human sprite with minor edits for the illusion of variety, instead of just drawing them like in Genesis port where four completely unique variations of soldiers sprites were used for extras.
Don't ask me what version looks better - I still cannot decide it since they both has rather strong points, but I must completely disagree about that strange comment from NintendoComplete regarding colors. In fact, Genesis port have managed to avoid this issue completely somehow, like I have no idea where is he coming from with this complaint in the first place, AoF is actually so amazing at using colors that almost no dithering was used in it in order fake more details, which means that it's one of the very few 16-bit games that can be played on a modern tv with RGB cable while not looking ugly.
I dunno, this port is far from perfect obviously and yeah, lack of bigger sprites with scaling effects hurts, but IMO the real issue with the graphics is mediocre-to-bad animation and nobody complaining about it... With far better animation this game would have looked way better than SNES port, that's for sure and it's not like it was completely impossible to do because Genesis version uses a middle sized cartridge (2mb) as opposed to huge rom of Super Street Fighter 2 or MK3, so maybe they could have create and use more frames of animations for these new small sprites...
Or maybe they couldn't, I'm not sure about that because Genesis does have a strict limitations on the amount of graphic data that can be streamed very fast, Genesis's port of WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game can't even handles a 4 smaller than AoF's sprites with smooth animation without huge slowdown, so maybe there were not much room for animation improvement left in Art of Fighting with it's current graphics, who knows. But, unless someone will prove it experimentally, I refuse to believe that animation in this game cannot have more frames with same exact backgrounds - there must a way to improve it somehow.
Ok, rant is over , sorry again lol.

I disagree about the lower color depth becoming apparent in this port. I actually think some stages look better color and detail wise than the SNES stages, though that’s partially because Mode 7 is being used to emulate the scaling from the NEO GEO game

0:38 Un Dato Curioso. En El Primer Juego De Una Saga De Luchas De No Se Como Se Llama En La Versión De Sega Genesis En La Introducción Del Juego Sale Una Ciudad Tormentosa Y Sale El Nombre De El Juego En El Fondo Pero En El Menu Principal Estará Negro Pero La Pantalla Se Pone Oscura Menos El Nombre Esto Debido A Masahiro Kisarah Fue Un Fallo Por El Creador Pero Originalmente Debido De Que Fue Lanzado En 3 Continentes El 2 De Febrero De 1994 Con La Etapa De Fallo Por La Cosa De Que Fue Por El Juego. Verdad.

Scenarios lacking in detail?? Care to explain what you are talking about? Yes, the SNES is missing the cutscenes when Ryo is on his motorbike and Robert in his car, but it has everything else, and plays quite well.
