    The video I needed. When your in your 50's and realize that you have connected with nature and never understood religion and you now you understand that you're actually a witch. I'm so happy to have some clarity. I've always been a late bloomer, lol. Thank you for the videos. I am learning so much right now. ❤️

    Yes, Bex, please do a deep dive! I would love to hear specifically about historic practices in the States, and current day witch craft, especially how it is perceived within the Christian community today. The Bible Belt in particular.

      I shall definitely look into it! For me as an outsider (as I have never lived in the states) it is a bit harder to comment on contemporary practices and happenings over there as I can only derive so much from media and people stories and experiences and it seems very different than Europe but I will certainly try and gather some more info 🙂

      I agree that Christianity has also been abused by man as political and persecution, which was far from its original purpose. Today as well, it can be so abused and used to cause dissention, and divide. The horrors done in the name of Christianity have been not only inexcusable, but the exact opposite of what Christ was about.

    I love how you point out some wanted control like the church, Hitler, (we would add Dump), but all unicorn-sunshine-and-marshmallows here. Okay, if I have to have a goddess, it'll be a unicorn, which absolutely cannot be confused with the horn god. I won't classify my faith and practice as anything but a marshmallow-believer. Phew, so glad to have figured out my label.

      @@rokelle_2012 for me, one of the best definitions of witches (strange as it may sound) is given by Sir Terry Pratchett in his disk world series. I love these chats you have with us, they are informative, entertaining AND best of all, I always find them to be a great place to be inspired to do my own deep dive into certain topics that I may not have thought about before. I would really enjoy hearing you discuss in more detail different historical events, and folklore from all over the world. I was born in Salem MA, and though I have no ancestral ties (that I know of), and do NOT feel I am a witch simply because I was born in Salem, I do know that my love of the history is what has always drawn me to Witchcraft in general and I guess somewhat helped to guide me on my path of research and discovery. All this to say I would love to hear your perspective. :)

    This video uploaded right on time because I've been wanting to practice witchcraft and It seems that I'm going down the path of green witchcraft so please do more of this!! As a small child, It seemed like witchcraft has always been a practice I've done without even noticing like I connect with the moon, animals and nature, I love herbs, I'd collect rocks and sticks and in return I'd hang something on a tree that can feed the birds, I'd make my own spells and I absolutely love incense and candles, It made me very happy and even though people may say witches can't levitate and do aerokinesis, telekinesis I most definitely believe it is possible...if humans can telepathically communicate with eachother through the mind then imagine what else we can do.

    THANK YOU for pointing out that the Salem witch trials did not persecute herbalists. I really really dislike that myth.
    If you want to dive deep into the Salem witch trials the first season of Unobsecured by Aaron
    Manhke will help. If you have the time I highly recommend listening to the whole season, it’s fascinating and well done. No one persecuted said they were a witch, unless they were threatened with bodily harm. A slave from a plantation traveled to Salem with her master. Her name was Tituba. Tituba lived and worked in the home of Reverend Samuel Parris, the minister of Salem Village. She came from Barbados. A child heard a rumor she used a folk cure to heal a sick dog. It got out of hand, to put it mildly. Land changed hands when a witch with no male heir died, I’m sure you get the drift.
    It is theorized that the grain stores of rye in Salem were contaminated.
    I can’t post the links to my references, sorry. Key phrases are “Resources: Season 1
    Unobscured Aaron Mahnke” and “How Rye Bread May Have Caused the Salem Witch Trials | Britannica”

    Also, I've been researching my heritage lately and the majority of my great grandparents came here from Germany! I learned that my great great grandparents were from Bavaria (and Prussia). Do you have any recommendations for reading in terms of learning about older Germanic customs? :)

      My grandparents are from Bavaria and Prussia too :) The go-to book (collection) for German customs is probably Jacob Grimm's work 'Teutonic Mythology'. But it is suuuuuper scholarly and you should have a good understanding of Latin and at least one Scandinavian language to read it.

    I would love a deeper look at the similarities between Wicca, The Golden Dawn, and Tantra. I was listening to some of Foolish Fish's videos and he kinda goes over it in his video "What is Magick?" but not really. He says he noticed a lot of similarities between Tantra and The Golden Dawn's setup and that it would seem that The Golden Dawn got their structure from Tantric practices and theories. Which would make most of what we do in many of the various forms of magick based in Hinduism's Tantric Practices. I'd love to do more research on it myself as well but I would be very curious to hear your point-of-view as well.

    I want to address some things said about wicca that are very common misconceptions online in general.
    The most common is about the Gods.
    Wicca does have a set pantheon: The Mother-Goddess of the Moon and Stars and the Horned God of Death and Resurrection. They have specific names, lore and mythology that are kept as initiatory secrets.
    Regarding the wheel of the year, people often credit (or criticize) Gardner for its creation, when in reality it was a joint work between Gardner and Ross Nichols, founder of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. Wicca and Neo-Druidry have a shared history since both of them were close friends and members of the AOD (Ancient Order of Druids). So the 2 movements have shared influences and inspirations.
    Which leads me to my next point: Many people don't actually know where Wicca comes from. The AOD existed in a time where historical reconstructionism wasn't a thing yet, so it was basically western occultism with Druidic aesthetic, and that's a huge part of wiccan heritage. Gardner was also a Rosicrucian and it's believed that the "New Forest coven" were made by member of the Rosicrucian Order Crotona Fellowship.
    Cerimonial Magic, Crowley and Freemasonry are also part of Gardner's influence to build Wiccan Praxis.
    All of this to say that there isn't actually much of "Buddhism and Hinduism" going on in wicca. Gardner's Craft is basically a mix of his understanding of British and Witch Folklore and Western Occultism.
    The threefold law is also just a misunderstanding from one of his quotes from his fiction book (if I remember correctly). It's not part of original wiccan teaching.

    • @Thewitchescookery
      @Thewitchescookery  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very interesting - and some of this I couldn't find in my research so thank you very much for sharing your knowledge ❤️👌👌👌 could you share some sources because I would love to look more into this 🙂

    • @paulogibaldi2411
      @paulogibaldi2411 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Thewitchescookery Philip Heselton is Gardner's biographer and an Initiate, so all of his work is a good source on these subjects.
      His most recent book is "In search of the New forest Coven" from 2020.
      The official site of the OBOD has some articles about the relationship between Wicca and Druidry too.
      Besides that, there are some online content about traditional wicca.
      Hex education is a channel by an Alexandrian Coven where they touch many topics regarding Wicca. Very informative but they are a bit extreme though.
      For a more moderate content there is Thorn Mooney too, but she doesn't specifically talk just about wicca.

      @@paulogibaldi2411 that is awesome!! Thank you so much for all those tips 🙂 I do know Thorn but will look into all the others too!

    Interesting video, I find all your videos interesting 🤔 You mentioned the video between you, Scarlet and Ella, I saw it on Scarlet Ravenswood's channel and I had to know more about you. I don't remember how I learned about Scarlet, it might have been through Annie The Green Witch. Since I've retired I've been able to go back to the practice of my youth, my husband frowned upon the Craft. So keep up the videos, so I don't feel so isolated (I still live in a blue state with heavy religious leaning). Enjoy your summer and many Bright Blessings 💚
