Love this actress. Never heard of Crossroads Motel but I'll look it up. She was hysterical in LOSW she and Bill Owen were perfectly suited opposites lol It's wonderful as an American to see the British shows we didn't get to see on YT. I have always loved British comedy and now I can indulge myself. :o)
I remeber she was on the table behind me back in 1989 in the old Dutch pancake house, st Peter's square Manchester. Lots of people were coming up to her asking for autographs but she waS very polite and freindly to them even though they were disturbing her meal it was my 17th birthday treat that's how I remeber and Nora batty was eating pancakes with me haha
Thanks so much for this. It's funny, but only yesterday morning I was sorting through my 1980s Crossroads collection, and looking at lots of the episodes, many of which featured Doris. Kathy was a lovely, natural actress - and a charming, down to earth lady. My sympathy to her family and friends.

Kathy Staff was great as Nora but her favourite role to me,was Miss Doris Luke in the orginal Crossroads,I didn't like the remakes. Miss Luke spoke her mind but had a heart of gold.
These presenters are clueless. First he takes a cheap shot at Crossroads' sets and acting before introducing Kathy Staff. Then the woman thinks that Nora Batty is a Crossroads character, then the man asks if Last of the Summer Wine is a soap. huh?

The producers missed that error, Kathy was on Summer Wine ('73) before Crossroads ('78)
She first appeared in Crossroads in 1971 as a different character but they should have really been clear on that.

She is truly missed. Supposedly she left "Summer Wine" because it just wasn't the same without Bill Owen.
Last of the summer wine is the SECOND longest running comedy series, the first being The Benny Hill Show which ran for 40 years.
Many were repeat series, LOSW were new every season.

We loved Last of the summer's wine here in Ireland. Still watch it. Nora was my own mother's name RIP. She wasn't a battleaxe though.
