    The "exit" of Compo was probably the best story arc for a character passing that I have ever seen. The whole series was quite charming, tho I seem to be one of the very few Americans who will admit to even watching it. It made me think of my father's generation and I could almost imagine them as the gentlemen on various larks.

      Not only was the Compo passing Trilogy wonderfully written, moving and still humorous, Roy Clarke had to write it quickly, and rewrite the subsequent episodes in the series as well.

    Bill Owen is my favourite character in this series. But the series would be nothing without the infamous trio. I was so sorry when Bill died. He added a special flavour to the trio. Naughty, rambunctious and commonly lovable. R.I.P. Bill and Peter

    He was completely and masterfully Compo. Could see no other actor in his role. Seemed to be written for him. A joy to watch. Didn’t know he was into music. Talented guy.

      Hi Donal, yes - if you watch the Trivia video for series 21 to 25, I mention this. At least ten relatives that we already knew of should still be alive. Theoretically, Clegg could have gone to Gordon's mother's house, as they met up there for Gordon's wedding. But we hadn't seen any of them since series 3, and some viewers definitely would not have seen (or remembered) those episodes! Of course, no one expected Compo's son to turn up!

    He would have French ancestry with the name Simmonite, in France Simonet

    • @upstagedbyadog
      @upstagedbyadog  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did look at the origin; in the UK most of the Simmonites were in Yorkshire. The name was also popular in USA, but the first in the UK was a 'Simeon of Warwick' in about 1280 - which would fit with it originally being a 'Simonet'!

    I was watching when they went to france .With a pigeon. Which to me i thought was the funniests episode.But at the end when Compo finally finds the area he was looking for and takes out his 🎺👈 and is playing it and the cameras come up to his face as he was playing i cried i could see in his blue eyes and how old he had aged although i dont think that was the last episode but the one with Nora Batty wearing an outfit like what they wore in the 1920s and knocks at his door he dies with a smile on his face in the episode. Although id say he had died before then in real life.but to me Compo Bill Own they should have ended the show with that close up of him playing 🎺.his🎺with the close up of him..Rest in peace Bill or should i say Compo.Thank you for all the laughter you gave me over the years with your funny ways and words said that were so funny like your other pals Glegg and others who came and went from most of the episodes.Its good to no your not alone and burried beside your pal Gleggs with Booths And Gnomes on your graves. Hi Sandra. Bill Owen was certainly central to the show, the eccentricities of the character made Compo many people's favourite. It's understandable that people felt that his death should have been the end of the series, but that would have meant the BBC abandoning the remaining scripts of the series, and about £1 million already spent on the unfinished 'Last Post and Pigeon' and series 21. Not forgetting that dozens of people would have been instantly out of work - many tv crew are self employed, so when there's no work, they're not paid. Bill Owen died on 12 July 1999 (Kathy Staff's birthday), 'Last Post...' was first broadcast on 2 Jan 2000. Series 21 aired from 2 April 2000. Parts of 'Last Post...' were rewritten and the ending was adapted as a tribute to Bill. People who wanted the show to end there could have stopped watching - there were still people that loved the show without Bill, so it went on for another ten years for them.
