    It sounds like Ashlie made out in the deal. The court orders her to spend 6 months in a drug treatment facility while Curtis spends at least 15 years in jail, and Henry is dead. 6 months in rehab!? Holy crap. She got off practically scott free! That's insane.
    I've been sober for 5 years on Sep 17th. I was addicted to opiates. Similar story. Car accident. Script from a less than responsible doctor who continued to fill them way longer than they should've. When they cut me off, I moved to Heroin. After being involved in that life for years and somehow managing to make it out alive (mostly) in-tact, one thing that I always thought to myself was, "Thank God I wasn't born female." Because I know for a fact that I would have used my body to get drugs or, more likely, gotten turned out by an opportunistic dealer. Young women who become addicts are so incredibly vulnerable to being trafficked, among other things. I don't know that I would have made it out if that were what I had to deal with regularly.

    • @MeganVictoriaKearns
      @MeganVictoriaKearns ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I had the same experience. Mid 2000's, legit injury, over prescribed, cut off abruptly, had become dependent, sought illegal opiates, full addiction set in, typical misery and chaos ensued. I'm a woman and feel extremely fortunate I never had to resort to selling my body. I had a lot of savings that I sadly blew right through and I also made money working for dealers. I'm not naive though, so I realize I can never claim that falling down to a high level of desperation wouldn't eventually result in me going to that extreme. I'd like to think that under no circumstances would I ever do that, but the reality is most women do end up resorting to selling themselves at some point. Like I said, I feel fortunate. But you are absolutely correct that most female addicts do wind up in prostitution. I've personally known 8 female addicts and 7 of them sold their bodies at some point. Very, very sad and scary and hopeless place to be in to justify doing that. Very sad and very telling of the hold addiction can have on a person.

    Becoming dependent on drugs after an injury is too often the beginning of a steep downhill in life. Addiction almost always leads to criminal behavior - stealing, promiscuity, lying. The life of the addict becomes rapidly degraded. And yet no responsibility is ever brought back to the drug itself? Those who prescribe drugs should have more of a part in making sure addiction doesn't happen!

I told him - under no uncertain terms - that I would snort and abuse the drug and to NOT give it to me. When the nurse handed me a script for 90 days of Oxy I got furious and ripped the prescription up in front of the nurses station. I don't even take Ibuprofin to this day.

      Drs handed the medication like candy- and he was never told it was addictive back then. Drs gave more when it stopped working for his chronic bone infections.
      When he stopped taking the meds he was sick…
      He called Dr and Dr told him he couldn’t just stop. He had to be weaned off it.
      He had been on the meds for years. 😢
      He finally was on one pill a day when he met Ashlie.
      She was the catalyst to both men’s demise. Curtis is a sick POS-
      He beat and stomped on Henry for 4 hours, left for a couple of hours. They were hoping Henry would be dead when they came back.
      But Henry was still living, and had crawled to get help.
      Who can possibly listen for hours as a man screamed for his pain?
      A psychopath, that who.
      And both of them are.
      They buried Henry alive.

      I did “get off” it as I’m not wanting to become dependant, but without it as a pain reliever, I’d probably be dead anyway.
