I feel exactly the same, life has become very hectic and I haven’t posted for a few weeks. I love the little allotment and gardening community on You Tube and have had so much fun learning to edit my little diary posts. Chin up with the hideous weather. My allotment looks very bare considering the effort that has gone in and that is demotivating when it comes to uploading videos. It’s quite nice to know we are all feeling the same and not alone. Have a lovely summer with your kids. Informal videos are lovely to watch, just as much as highly polished ones ❤
It is good to see you. Your life is so busy. Would be glad to just see you occasionally on your phone. Please don't burn yourself out and completely disappear. You are a bright spot on Utube.
I tried editing once, it was only four clips that needed to be put together, it was hard and took a very long time. So I don't edit. I carry my phone on a tripod - makes it easier to keep it stable, put a cheap mic on and do a walk and talk and then upload. I don't aspire to have a lot of subscribers though, it's mainly for myself as a journal. But it's an easy way to just film and upload something, and I think your subscribers would be happy for little snippets now and then. We've had really chilly and rainy weather here in Norway as well. Lots of yellow/purple leaves. I've harvested some cucumbers and patty pans though and the first cherry tomatoes will be ripe this week. Glad you're on the mend.
I'm totally with you on the no edit and think thats what I will do from now on, Thank You for sharing what you do ☺️ the weather is very strange all around the world from what I see and hear 🌧❄️🌪⚡️ I hope you're having a great week! ☺️
Thank you so much for your honesty on burnout, its really refreshing to see such honesty on this platform and helps me remember that I'm not the only one struggling with (a) the blesséd weather and (b) the time to garden. Would love to see any type of content from you when you're ready - I really love your chatty, informative videos 😊
I'm already planning autumn sowing and planting. This summer is a washout. Hope you feel better soon. It's fine to just drop in when you can and not run yourself ragged. Take care. ❤
Oh Gemma I'm sorry to hear you've been poorly but glad that you're on the up. The good thing about the weather is - it can only get better right ....? Lovely to see you back and make sure you do what's right for you x
@JanesGrowingGarden Hi Jane 👋 Thank You I am feeling a lot better Thank You, I was really poorly at one point but am much better now. Thank You for your support Jane it means a lot 🥰 xx
Informal is fine by me, actually prefer it ! Im interested in your grape vine and how you are going to support it. Love to see a close up of your vine and support. X
Good to see you back, try any format of video and see how it goes im sure just the phone/live will be fine, while i dont have an allotment i watch 2 or 3 youtubers across the uk , your my southern 1 so its good to see how things are going across england see if were having similar success or problems, i do a small amount of garden maintenance up here in the north east and this year attempted some veg growing at home in greenhouse for a second year, but its frustrating the weather as all have said is making things so stop /start but we keep trying...
I’m sure I speak for everyone we would rather know you are enjoying a lovely break from TH-cam with your family and living life at a bit of a slower pace 🥰 I can see you love doing the videos as well, on top of being a mother is a such a busy job isn’t it! mine are 7 and 10 and present new challenges all the time 🙈 have really enjoyed seeing your videos and sharing the allotment experience too. You take care !
This year has been my first year ever trying to grow my own vegetables on my new allotment - so glad the failures aren't just because I'm a beginner!! Nice to know we're all in the same boat
Hi Hazel, it's definitely not anything you're doing, this year has just been really awful....Hope you're having a great week and Thank You for your support 😊
I love to her what you ar up to on the plot no matter what format you dp. just enjoy and do what you feel is right for you. It all sounds col to me. Happy gardening 🙂
This year has been awful and sometimes you do just need to take a break. I think shorts and lives are a great thing as this time of year we don’t have a lot of time to sit and view a video as much. Good to see you have a catch up
Hi Emma, Thank You for your support and encouraging words ❤️ yes it's such a busy time isn't it and I really struggle, something had to give for a while to keep me from burning out. Thank You Emma 🥰
Hi Gemma! Although our summer weather here in Southeast Michigan has been really nice, which is pretty normal for us, the pressure from diseases, pests, critters, & birds has been higher than I've ever seen. In particular there is a brown moth that has come in a& done more damage to our brassicas & Swiss chard than the white butterfly could ever dream of doing. Dozens of green & brown striped caterpillars on each plant eating them to a bare skeleton almost overnight. I had BT spray on hand for the white butterfly larvae, but the moth came out of nowhere & took over before I knew what was happening. I am having to start over our collard greens & so more Swiss chard to try to compensate. Another thing that has been weird this year is low or no seed germination for things I normally have no problem growing in the summer, like sunflower, marigold & New Zealand Spinach.
The weather here in Nova Scotia has been crazy as well. This past weekend we had such heavy rains that roads were wiped out. Enjoy what ever you do manage to get and don’t stress yourself. Sounds like you just need to take some time for yourself and recalibrate and get your balance. We are just fine with whatever you want to do. Just seeing you from time to time is awesome. ❤
We're all in the same boat Gem. Never known a year like it. Slugs and pigeons have had a blast at my allotment. Like you say, things aren't growing the same. We're all disillusioned and I've not succession sowed like I usually would because I'm like 'what's the point'. Finally getting some lettuce and my first cucumber. I'm going to concentrate on harvesting what I can and getting prepped for hopefully a better 2025! My second earlies aren't even ready yet! 🤣 Hope you feel better soon.
Hi Faith 👋 exactly, there hasn't been a year like this has there?! It's really harsh to stay motivated 😕 Thank You for supporting me and my channel and like you say, here's to 2025! 😎🥰 xx
Totally agree, this year has been a write off. Peas, broad beans are rubbish. Strawberries have been taken by a mouse or something. I am getting lettuce, but even my squash, courgettes and pumpkins are struggling. It's a real disappointment. Lovely to see you again though and yes your family comes first and Summer is a busy time when the children are home x
Gemma, I know exactly how you feel. My chilli plants are tiny. Basil and other herbs…awful. Very frustrating. I am on my second lot of tomato plants…flowers only so far, just keeping fingers crossed we get warmer weather. Onions seem to be doing ok, but taken weeks to get this far. I have put my red cabbage seedlings in over weekend and covered them already…again fingers crossed they survive. Take every day as it comes, that is also what I am doing. Any videos you do make my day…so whatever you have time for 😊 have a great Summer ❤
Good to see you back I was wondering 🤔. It is way too hot here the total opposite to yours. I am constantly watering and moving things to shade them. Your red crimson broad beans are doing well though 👍👍. I didn’t know it was a live but good to catch up. Taking the time to assess and make necessary changes is all part of gardening. Have a super week do what is right for you and things will get better, Ali 🌞🥵🫠36c🇨🇦
Hey Ali ☺️ Oh no its challenging when it's too hot here, can't imagine what it's like with you! Glad to hear the broad beans are doing well 👍 Thank You for the support Ali, as always, you've been with me since day 1 ❤️🥰
Yes its really disheartening, such a shame as we put in so much hard work and not really got a lot back so far 😢 Let's hope it gets better, Thank You for watching a supporting 🙏
Just maybe do a weekly walkabout showing how things are growing (or not 🙄) and take time off you are entitled to a few weeks annual leave even from TH-cam 😆😎🌿🍅🥬🫛🌶️🌻🥒🧄🍓 it's been the year of the roses and shasta daisies for me they're epic this year 🌹🌼
