    Love these videos. My son, 9 now, is just learning the buttery slide and push and we are going to practice it tomorrow. All the potentials are right there, just isn’t clicking just yet. I tell him the same thing you have said, it’s not a natural feeling the first times you do it and it takes time. Really loved the slow mo as others have said of the skate grabs on the ice and what part of the skate is contacting. I’m definitely more of the toe contact tendy but I am going to try the first third more for myself. Great vid Travis, no matter when it was made

    Ive watched videos like this advice is really good. I would say the only thing from personal experience is being confident while going down. Im still somewhat new to goalie but sense I have played hockey most of my life as a defenseman I can do all the skating and sliding with ease. However being new to goalie I’m always trying to micro-manage myself in the net all the time, which naturally leads to a lack of confidence and reaction time in some areas.

    Love the vids Trav. I'm an ambidextrious 40 plus yr old tender. Try to play at least 1 time a week rh catch. Lh catch mostly until 2010 .I greatly enjoy your technique and tips. This vid gave me some pointers on what I'm doing wrong in certain situations . Be it left catch or rh catch , have some habits and processes to change and improve on. My style is mixed 90s butterfly, standup . Trying the new ways this yr. Much more slides than shuffles. If down trying to use the down to travel then get back to my feet if needed. Thanks again Trav! and all the best to your future paths in the crease where ever it takes you . :)

    My 1st few goes in net i was trying to BF push using most of my blade and was getting poor results. I was like man this is ALOT harder then I thought, maybe my legs weren't strong enough to do that push. I thought maybe my pad was sitting to low on my skate and interfering with my blade. Then about my 5th time out i was in a warm up for pick up and was trying to do my BF push and for some reason I only used my toe. and BOOM nice slide. tried again and again and it was like ALL DAY now. I wish I started playing net at a much younger age and had a coach to show me basics lol I bet your video and how your coach was explaining the blade, is going to help ALOT of new goalies!!! Well Done.

    My knee cap was dislocated after a powerful T-push and even after 8 months of recovery I've never been the same. The part at the end about the knee being a hinge joint and not being able to go laterally is on point. I see some of these elite goalies and wonder if they are double jointed.

    Are there any muscle memory activities/reps i can do to help with this, because when I get on the ice, I can't put all of it together well. Where it seems to go bad for me is after my knees hit the ice and my pads are on in place to properly block a shot (i.e. the pad face is facing up), I lift my drive leg and angle the skate about 45 degrees to the ice and I kind of lean on my drive foot/leg to get some power behind it and push, and that's where it goes bad because I get no power and duration in my slide. I don't get it. It happened at my over-30 drop in game Monday night. I'd get no slide duration and I'd end up kind of scuttling/crawling to the opposite post because I couldn't push myself over there. Even when my skates are newly sharpened I just can't get my skate to push me in the direction I want to go.

  • @ThePaulfullTruth
    @ThePaulfullTruth 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm 63 years old and am just starting to try to use the butterfly slide. For me the issue seems to be more control of balance which I know will come with practice for better hip and thigh flexibility and strengthening of core to have a balanced posture when down on my knees AND with my hands up. The thing is, it's just very tiring for an old guy like me who doesn't get to practice and only plays a few days a week, if that. All about conditioning. Oh, well, nobody promised me a rose garden...

    • @Phil91580
      @Phil91580 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The newer pads rotate. I’m a 90’s goalie who just got my first set of the new style, and I’m having to somewhat re-learn. The old style pad made me rotate my hip/knee to get the pad flat. Now this 40yo goalie has to go a little more butterfly than in the past (hybrid, maybe 70/30 butterfly/standup in the past) and still need to learn the butterfly pushes somehow. Old dog learning new tricks in beer league.

    @bradsherwin4568 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are a very athletic goalie, with a couple changes you can be even more effective. One challenge I see is your weight is too fat back on your skates, which affects your butterfly and the reason you need hip surgery. Your shoulders need to be in front of your knees, which will bring your glove and blocker further in front of your body. When you drop in your butterfly, you want to release the blades behind you, when you are dropping as you are your butt sinks down, so when you turn to slide you are putting tremendous strain on your hips. Your weight should be more over your knees with your butt slightly back but your head and hands in front of your knees. Have a look at this video ad an example. Great job on your video, btw, well shot! th-cam.com/video/lmVJNpceAPw/w-d-xo.html
