Great video coach! I’ve been working on this as a fat old beleaguered beer leaguer and these tips are just what I was looking for.

Thanks coach. I just arrived at 1 year playing in net and what a journey its been. Thanks to you and other coaches on youtube i got the chance to better myself every time i go on the ice. After just this 1 year i am in talks to become a backup for our 4th division now.

Good tip with putting weight on the push skate. Sometimes when I rush through drills I'll slip. Hip flexibility helps with getting that skate to 90 degrees.
Also, love the first tendy's blocker, nice style.

Exactly what I have been struggling with... saw a FB post that mentioned over-transferring weight earlier this week, but getting to see in slo-mo helps picture what to do. Just started playing net again a year ago - just the sort of content I need! Thanks Coach!

I feel like this video was made for me! Basically answered all of my questions and the things i have been struggling with of late.
Thanks Coach! - 30 year old beer league goalie

Hey Keeker,…. Can you do a video about getting to (or already in) RVH and how to push off and slide to the other post and what parts of your equipment touches the post and where? The slow motion will help too.

Thanks for the tips! The 90 degree leg drop is something that definitely I’m going to be paying attention to next game.

Well said. I have ALWAYS hated when the D hands me a stick. Now he can’t help get the puck out of the zone and I’m supposed to stop shots with a tiny player twig, silly

Great video. I'm 49, just started playing goalie about a year now. I have trouble getting back up with my right leg. I can only get up on my left leg. I feel like I'm going to fall if I recover on my right leg. I can do it by practicing on the floor without skates. On the ice wearing all my gear is a different story. A video for us old fat guys just starting out would be great.

Yes, I'm an older goalie too and over time I've gravitated to only pushing myself up with my left leg.

1:50 Watch that ice Coach, it is slippery!!!!
Seriously, great tips on the push! I’ve been putting I think too much weight on my down knee and not enough on my push leg. Will definitely try this next time on the ice ( out of shape beer league goalie too)

I tend to do well going from left to right.. It’s when I’m in a scramble situation w/lovely beer leaguer D~fense from right to left that I might do that error w/the transition 😒 but I’m working on it!!

Do some mirror work at home to make sure where you “feel” that leg is positioned is actually how it is

This is the video I've been needing. Since getting my new gear I've been struggling with this. It's getting better but needs practice. At the same time I would intentionally do drills back in the late '90s/early 2000s without my stick because I hated using a player stick. Looks like I was ahead of my time.

Funny story. I started playing goalie again a couple years ago after last playing in Jr. High in 1982. I was given a set of used gear and skates to try before going whole-hog on new gear. I tried and tried and tried to do butterfly slides and just could not do it. Watched videos, tried different hollows on the skates, just couldn’t get it. One day I was gifted brand new skates. The next time I got on the ice, I tried a butterfly slide and damn-near pushed myself through the side boards! Turns out on the used skates I first had, the toe of the blade had been rounded off during the multiple sharpenings by the previous owner. Once I got the new skates with the new steel with the sharp toe point, I was able to push with no problems at all.

You should do a segment for us older goalies on boot straps, yes or no. And if so, what are the pros of behind heal, back cowling hole or mid foot? Thanks again, Foot Long

    • @FutureProGoaltendingUSA
      @FutureProGoaltendingUSA  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I think strapping is going to be a very individual decision after personal trial and error. The older generation reefed down on the heel straps through the back cowlings hole. Our pads had zero rotation on the leg. This seriously restricted our ability to get wide flares and vertical pad faces in the butterfly. If you are going to wear one it should be for a purpose. If it is just flapping loose doing nothing delete it.

Thanks for the quick reply, I will try removing it but I think my sliding toe lace will cause too much rotation. Will try bungee cord that may work better...thanks.

No, No, No, No. If you’re a beer leaguer and drop your stick, it’s literally the end of the world. Start yelling at anyone who will listen, defcon 5 alert here. After all, if you lost your stick, it’s the other team’s fault and there should have been a penalty called, no matter what actually happened. If yelling doesn’t work, turn around and flip the net over. If the ref still hasn’t blown the whistle, take your mask off while skating over to the ref and state your case about the missed penalty (as he’s calling delay of game on you). Your other option is to be cool about it and do what Keeks said. It’s your game, play it how you want to.

If a goalie is confident, the panic and chaos does seem to come from players when a goalie drops their stick. Such a simple scenario to run through with a team so you don’t end up looking like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off!

  • @Nope99856

Looks like homeboy needs to work on stick discipline and maybe needs a shorter paddle height.
Thanks for the tip on getting power into your butterfly pushes, I grew up playing through the 90’s and early 2000’s, quit playing around 24 for 13 years or so and just started playing again in the last few years.
The butterfly push is definitely an area where I can still improve on the most, getting a lot better but I still find my pushing leg slipping out pretty often, and I’m potentially doing exactly what you showed there. I’ll try that adjustment.

@@FutureProGoaltendingUSA will do, game tonight actually.
I’m going to try other things too, i still have a skate with cowling though it is the Vertexx 2.0, and I run a 1/2 “ hollow with no profile, or the stock profile.
Will likely get a skate without cowlIng, put a profile on the blade for goalies that have a tendency to toe push which I do, and potentially drop to a 7/16 or maybe even a 3/8.
That’ll all likely come in the off season though, don’t want to make major gear adjustments or be breaking in new skates mid season.

and here i've always told my guys, if i drop my stick, put it to the side or behind the net to get it out of the way, i dont want the puck hitting it and skipping up doing something weird or getting jammed up somewhere else in my gear
