I hated Tyler perry movies due to repetition of men being abusive or being absent fathers. Or women being abused or searching for love. I understand it's inspired by the women of his life but there are so much more stories he could tell. But it's the same damn thing.

Yeah but that's what people been patronizing him for so the jokes not on him tbh. I never hated Perry's stuff but I had my fill back around 2006 or so. I saw a couple of the plays and one movie and I was like ok that's enough. But his audience keeps coming back. I give him props since it took till about 2020 for everyone to come around to realizing the flaws. I still give dude his propers tho

It irks me when people say he's employing other Black people. Yeah, he's employing Black people in front of the camera, but he's not providing *any* opportunities for Black folks behind the scenes (i.e. writers, directors, producers and just Black creatives in general) And it's not like any of these actors he's "employing" are going on to have big careers outside of his low budget movies and TV shows. If anything it probably damages their careers because every one is pointing and laughing at them for being in such a low budget mess. Black folks really need to raise their standards and stop settling for his mediocre nonsense. There are other Black creatives who we could be supporting who actually put out high quality work like, Ava Duvernay, Issa Rae, Jordan Peel etc. to be settling for such buffoonery

As much as I LOVE bad movies, I don’t watch Tyler Perry movies. They’re very formulaic, to the point where I know how to watch these movies with extended family without commenting much. Watch the set up of the black woman done wrong. Leave and clean the kitchen or nap for a bit. Come back for the last 15 or so minutes to watch the villain get punished and the happy ending. A bad movie isn’t fun for me if it’s too predictable.

    • @DylanRomanov

DarksideBallerina Diary of a Mad Black Woman was the only one I enjoyed and it was the first one I watched. Literally every other movie is just like that one. The First Lady on the Oval her hair and those dresses are horrible and mostly white dresses. One episode last season he had a scene where four black men was shot in the head, for kidnapping the President’s daughter. And Sister episodes the word Bitch is used constantly. He got started doing these 'gospel' stage plays and it shows. His movies are all the same, with abusive Black men and angry Black women. I didn't like the fact he always made dark skinned men the villains and light skin men the heroes.
And the Madea character....Why did he think it was cool to play a grandma? But his audiences loved it. 🤦🏿‍♂️ His films are full of stereotypes and buffoonery . He set back Black film one hundred years. I am so glad we got people like Ry Coogler to give us a different vision of Blackness.
