I have listened to more than twenty performances of this concerto by various guitarists and orchestras. In my opinion, Angel Romero's is the best. He is a real maestro, his playing is flawless and so very evocative. His recording with the LSO on CD is my favorite as it sounds heavenly on a good hi-fi system.
Awesome performance, the best performance of this all time favorite classical guitar Concerto imo........ except when compared to that with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Angel, it was such a pleasure performing Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez with you so many many years ago in Carmel, California. I will never forget how beautifully you played this piece. It was a dream come true for a young violist. Thank you for this honor that enriched my life a thousand fold.
I conducted Rodrigo's epic concerto for guitar with the Four Seasons Orchestra in 2013 on our Spanish Concert with Angel's brilliant protege Chris Carelli. The slow movement with guitar and English horn is to die for! I wish Rodrigo had written a viola concerto. I thought of commissioning him to write one many years ago.
Yes, I was extremely fortunate to perform with some incredibly talented musicians over the years. Before the Rodrigo concert with Angel Romero, I was backstage at the Carmel Sun Theater back in 1975 (if I am recalling correctly). Angel's son Angelito saw me holding the oversized viola that I owned back then. He asked if he could play it. I said yes and to my astonishment, he started playing brilliant scales very rapidly guitar style on my viola!!! I was astonished that someone that young could play like that!
Those vibratos on the strings are just amazing brings so much feeling of nostalgia to this piece, I remember watching this more than 30 years ago as a kid, and it inspired me to learn to play the guitar. Amazing performance Angel is a master.
This video of Angel Romero reminds me of the time years ago when I used to attend the concerts of himself, his father, and brothers in Alice Tully Hall, New York City.
His electrifying and intensely Spanish interpretation of the cadenza has been my hands-down favorite for more than 40 years, when I first heard the 1967 recording with the San Antonio Symphony. (Perhaps unfortunately, because I can no longer enjoy anyone else's!) That 1967 recording, which I've owned on vinyl, cassette and now CD, is the only version of this concerto in my library.
@@colski3333 Paco de Lucía has another perfect performance but I'm not so sure about the third one since that might be the one which I haven't heard about yet.
OUCH at 6:16! What happened to that G# ??! But that's what you'd call nitpicking - finding super minor mistakes that are unimportant in the final run. My apologies to Maestro Romero.
Felicitaciones !!!
Miguel Rodriguez and definitely spruce. The rosette and headstock had me leaning toward Rodriguez but then you can just catch a bit of the label around 8 minutes. Sounds beautiful.
N. Yepes 2:08. J. C. Williams 2:09.y A Romero 1:053.

Angel=Aranjuez. He makes it look so simple. Brash and brilliant and simply wonderful.
Angel Romero is the best, especially with Concierto de Aranjuez!!!

I saw the Romeros at Royce Hall - UCLA and was spellbound. This performance is so wonderful It makes me cry.

The solo guitar from 6:13 to 7:59 have to be some of the greatest guitar playing on the planet ... as if an Angel were playing it ...
To think that the guitar was rejected as a "folk" instrument by so many for so many years!
Lágrimas. Un sentido celestial
7:13 what a champ, tuning his guitar in the middle of a performance!
