As a 10 year old, hearing about the symptoms and what they would do to try and cure it, I was spooked. One example was, the main character described just seeing a cart roll through the city. But the cart was full of corpses. Another example, this family’s son got it, and the doctors said there was nothing they could do. So they said goodbye, and kicked him out of the house.

10:55 Smallpox is not making a comeback. It is the only disease that has been completely eradicated. Well, except for 2 samples. One, kept at the CDC in Maryland, the other one at a government lab in Moscow. They are kept strictly for research purposes only. What I think you were attempting to refer to, is the measles. This disease was also devastating to the American Indians, but nothing like smallpox. Unfortunately, measles, once eradicated in North America, is indeed making a come back. All due to a lapse in vaccinations, that prevent children and adults from acquiring this disease, as well as destroying the "bubble" of herd immunity for the ones that are not able to. Can someone refresh my memory? What is it that we call a person, that directly, whether through malice or indifference, causes the death of another person?
The diseases listed above have much higher mortality rates, and many have higher infection rates. If covid19 had the same lethality as smallpox this pandemic could possibly be the worst catastrophe in human history.
l wonder what Smallpox has got to do with it ( 11:00 ). Vaccine-hating Soccer-moms are many things, but they're actually not exposing anybody to elevated risks of Smallpox. Measles and/or Rubella, maybe, but not Smallpox.
That rumor has been debunked since February. Even the image they used of that women holding the bat was not Chinese but another Asian country and the picture was take years ago. Stop the conpiracy theories. You are not helping.
It was released from the lab. Why do you think Chinese government was quickly to impose lockdown in Wuhan in January, shutting down domestic flights, but allowed international flights to take off
The problem is that PANDEMIC of the past didn't have the technological advancement and scientific experience that we modern days enjoys, thus these pandemic were scarier. Another thing to keep in mind, there wasn't a clear knowledge... thus resulting in extremely damaging numbers. The COVID-19 of today is no less different in that is it extremely contagious in its spread and is it too, dangerous... we cannot compare the past figures evenly as the past did not share our current scientific advancement.

A few years ago, when I was in elementary school, we read a book about yellow fever. (Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson.) As a 10 year old, hearing about the symptoms and what they would do to try and cure it, I was spooked.

And now, it's illegal to go outside in some countries, all thanks to a guy who ate a bat.
If it did come from a bat, that bat came from the bio weapon lab in wuhan. Researchers have been caught before selling lab animals to these markets.
