What Milk to Use With a Nespresso Aeroccino Milk Frother? | Whole Milk, Semi Skimmed or Skimmed?

  • In this video we run 3 different types of milk through our Aeroccino to find out which is the best type of milk to use with a Nespresso Aeroccino milk frother? Or any milk frother really.
    Which will come out on top? Full fat milk, half fat milk or skim milk?
    In the video we use the standard froth setting on the Aeroccino 4 as this corresponds well to the froth setting on the Aeroccino 3.
    Then as a bonus bit of content, we compare the Aeroccino 4 extra froth setting with the standard froth setting, to see if it's really any good!

    Ten years ago i performed similar tests with a professional HX machine. If you put a drop of food coloring in the glass before you pour in the foamed milk, you can see the liquid milk much more easily. A timer and precision cylinder or measuring cup are required for proper experiments to determine which milk actually performs better. The factors that determine the ability of dairy to form and sustain foam are freshness and quality of the proteins and the amount of fat. With a steam wand, lower fat milks foam quicker and the microfoam will hold longer. However, steaming denatures milk protein in a different way than mechanically whipping/heating. the results are not directly comparable and high fat milks generally react better when whipped in a ‘ccino than full fat milks. But that is NOT universal truth in my experience.
    By the way, froth is just big loose bubbles while foam is a fine lattice of smaller tight bubbles. Easily remembered by the fact that latte art is made with microfoam, not microfroth, which is not a real thing, and foam degrades into froth as the bubbles pop and the liquid drains.

    I remember being told a long time ago that skim gave more foam, but you mentioned on one of your first videos to use whole milk and I have never gone back to skim. In fact, sometimes I will indulge in a wee bit half n half to make it even thicker. I always have froth left over in my cup when I'm done drinking my coffee, but maybe it's because I love my nespresso coffee so much better than the keurig, I practically guzzle it.
    Also, I like to stir my coffee and milk quite a bit, to move the flavor around more, and it barely looses any volume. So whole milk is the winner for me.
    Love your videos, I learn a lot from you. Thank you!

      Ah glad it works well for you. I should really try whole milk on the extra froth setting one time as did used to like the creamy taste it gives. Nice suggestion to try half and half too. I've just got used to using semi skimmed with the aerocinno 4.

    I usually use oat milk. Being lactose intolerant, it's the closest I can get to the whole or 2% milk texture. The flavor also isn't too far off.

    Your videos are really informative, thank you. I recently bought an aeroccino 3 which I love, but I wish I had known more about the aeroccino 4 before I bought it! We've just bought a Nespresso machine to give as a gift, and a Lidl Silver Crest milk frother to go with it (keeping the cost down). We bought one ourselves to try it out and can't believe how well it works, although maybe not so stylish as the aeroccino! It also has an extra foam setting.

    Well what a great informative video, I have started using whole milk as the froth and the flavour are so nice, I will give skimmed milk a try out now and semi skimmed on the extra froth setting on my aerocinno 4. I will also keep watching for your receipts on the Barista and in the meantime try to persuade my husband that we need one! Thanks to you and your lovely wife for these great videos.

      Thanks you for watching them! Yeah I'd imagine putting skimmed milk on the extra froth setting would really highlight the difference in the texture of the foam. The flavour is really nice with whole milk though isn't it. Haha, yes my wife is already trying to persuade me to keep it! Will pass your comments on to my wife too.

    Thanks for the video. I love whole milk in my drinks but my waistline doesn't..LOL. Here is one for you, I have a Aeroccino 3 and regularly swap out the steel ring to make Latte's/Cappuccino. I've noticed it is really important where you place the ring back on the magnetic stand. If you place it back incorrectly your froth goes down.

    • @A2BProductions
      @A2BProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha , yeah best as a treat perhaps. That's interesting, where do you place it when you put it back on then. The Aeroccino 3 I'll be using in the vid where I compare the 3 hasn't been used yet, so should be on fine but will make sure before I begin.

    Nice videos! Started watching recently and I’m impressed with how much content you’re pumping out. I’ve been interested in the Aeroccino 4 but recently upgraded to the Creatista Pro after having the Expert + Milk (Aeroccino 3) for a while. Absolutely loving it! The texture of steamed milk is different from the Aeroccino 3, it’s definitely more of a silky texture and it’s much more pleasant to drink compared to the foamy milk the Aeroccino produces. Looking forward to the videos you have planned!

      @A2BProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for that, glad you're liking them! I've never used a Creatista myself but keep hearing good things about them. The Barista Recipe Maker foam created when using skimmed milk with some of the recipes is completely different from foam I've had in the past too, will try and show that on a future video. Will remember to do that video in daylight too 😂

    • @A2BProductions
      @A2BProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for subscribing! Yeah I find it works best to do that. Don't know if they have a heat sensor in or something to stop the frothing when the milk hits a certain temp but it certainly seems to make a difference. We got the Barista Recipe Maker recently and that actually says in the recipe book that came with it to wash with warm water and then rinse with cold water, to bring the temperature of the jug down between stages on some of the 2 step frothing programs.

    Hi there, I have had the same issue with this and so far I have found that if I use the whisk from the Aeroccino 4 on the Aeroccino 3 with semi skimmed it whips it really creamy. My next test will be to use the whisk from the 3 on the 4 with the less (cappuccino) foam button to see if that whips up forth nicely. Maybe you can do a video demo with that see if it works for you.

    My aeroccino isn't frothing my 2% grass fed milk...there doesn't seem to be any issue with the whisk or device itself. I tried to decrease the amount of milk as well and it still came out flat. I tried all of the FAQ from their site (cold milk, clean the whisk, etc) and nothing seems to work. From the reviews I've seen, many have had success with this type of milk.
    Any tips?
    EDIT: Mine came with the Nespresso Verturo Plus and isn't the same model as yours in the video. It just has one button on the front that you press once for hot and twice for cold froth

    More to the point why does it burn milk in the bottom? Mine has done this from new. Is this normal?

    • @A2BProductions
      @A2BProductions  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My aeroccino 3 didn’t tend to do that but the aeroccino 4 does sometimes on the extra froth setting. Sorry to hear you’re having issues with yours.

    • @bogiesan
      @bogiesan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is completely normal. The tiny heater in the base of the ‘ccino gets quite hot and easily burns proteins and lactose. Your vessel must be cleaned carefully after each use or this burned residue will build up and become a problem. This is the main reason one should not put sugary powders or sweetened milks in the ‘ccino.

      In which case you shouldn't use the aeroccino. Use a creatista machine with a steam wand or buy a pro milk steamer. If you use a steam wand or creatista you can use semi skimmed or whole milk. For latte art or proper cappucinos you want a microfoam that is mixed throughout the whole pitcher of milk. You want milk like paint or for cappucino thicker paint.
