    I don’t think I’ve ever heard a TH-camr actually say that they want to be careful of what they say about food/weight/eating disorders because of the kids following them. So much respect for that statement.

    • @defaultstate4536

      basically the opposite of the body positivity movement

    • @aurelius8439
      @aurelius8439 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It's slowly coming out more and more, but there's a really dark underbelly in climbing with eating disorders.

    • @Bastelkorb3
      @Bastelkorb3 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      @@defaultstate4536I don't think so. The idea behind the movement is to feel good in your body and don't judge others for their body. So being sensitive about that topic is one of the main goals the movement wants to accomplish... Getting rid of glorifying super low weight is one of the main goals.

      like basically what magnus said is the same as basically all people i know who support body positivity

    • @bardsamok9221
      @bardsamok9221 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@undeniablySomeGuy Maybe so but I think Magnus promotes healthy eating (not under eating or over eating to detriment of health), and will be very careful not to promote unhealthy eating behaviours, therefore protecting his viewers.
      Many in the "body positivity" group do not share that philosophy and some of their viewers are potentially in danger of following trendy but unhealthy role models promoting eating patterns that could cause serious issues years down the road. It's awesome that Magnus seriously cares for his fans and vulnerable people and would never put them in risk the way some social media trend setters are doing.

    It's amazing to watch Magnus climb. But more than anything, I've been blown away by Magnus's ability to focus and commit his body to whatever he's doing. Hearing you talk about tricking Juji, really makes me miss my tricking days. Spending hours at night in the available open gyms, fighting ants in the soccer fields, and sneaking in sessions between my cheer/tumble coaching. I am thankful for all the years I was in tricking, I didn't meet many trickers, but I made many friends through tumbling and college cheer. I'm grateful for all your sharing of information in the 2000s on trickstutorials and through youtube. Your tutorials not only helped me, but it also helped others around me such as my students, fellow tumblers, and other coaches. Thank you for all that you do.

    • @jujimufu
      @jujimufu  ปีที่แล้ว +49

      Thanks for the thoughtful and kind response Jodenc. I miss tricking too. I took a fork in the road when I peaked in that sport to pursue my own thing, and continued gaining weight, getting older, and losing skills. My arsenal is a fraction of what it used to be but I'm grateful for what it taught me about my relation to training, my body and life. Happy to see a fellow trickster here. And definitely relate to the late night open gym sessions, fire ants, getting kicked off fields (again and again and again), being a grass connoisseur, and all of the above! Thanks for hanging around! And coincidentally I have Yuri Marmerstien and Justin Carney swinging by this weekend to film a kind of "tricking video" for this channel. Video will be done in July sometime. Gonna try to learn some old man moves. ;-)

      Genuinely surprised to read this. I struggled to host this, didn't realize how difficult it was. Now I have new respect for the greats like Tim Ferriss and Rogan as hosts. I did read Magnus's entire book before this interview though with lots of notes, and have been friends with him for years, so that helped a bit LOL! Appreciate the kindness my friend!

    • @sjefsjegeren123
      @sjefsjegeren123 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@jujimufu It's really difficult to put into words what makes a good interviewer, but first and foremost, you weren't a stranger and helped Magnus share everything about him and his book in 55 minutes. His life journey and the little things like Magnus opening up about Playstation problems. haha. But, the interview was personal, and I felt like I got to know Magnus and learn from his expertise. And thats part of the reason to watch an intervjue with somebody, they got a unique perspective and expertise. You achieved that! Very often, interviewers interrupt the person being interviewed to explain something, and in doing so, they lose the thread of the conversation. I often feel it would be better to simply read the person's book, and not watch more of an interview. It just messes it up.
      I am Norwegian and have read Magnus' book, and I have never seen a better interviewer than you. I hope you continue with this. One thing that would be really exciting would be if you wrote a book. And maybe even an interview where you are the one who tells about your journey, but it has to be done by someone who can do interviews. Because it's not easy to conduct an interview; you need good questions and a consistent thread throughout the conversation. Asking questions is not for amateurs. You did it better than Joe Rogen!

With regards getting older and grading down, I'm a few months off turning 65 and still improving my climbing grades after starting a couple of years ago. Of course I'll never be elite but it's nice to know at my age you can still improve. Currently at 23/23 (@6c/7a I think). In regards to the body and specific strength - im a 40 year old HVAC tech. 20 years ago i could do 20 plus pullups being at healthy weight for my height. Now, i can barely do a handful, yet this is the best shape ive ever felt ive been in. My fingers, and forearms are definitely the strongest parts of my body and its not even close.

    It's really nice to hear that TH-cam and making videos is still a passion for Magnus and not just a job. I'm sure it's hard sometimes. As a viewer it's easy to say (in a well-meaning way) "just take a break if you're not feeling motivated" but when TH-cam is how you make a living it's not so simple to take a break. I get a sense that a lot of creators struggle with that.
    Anyway, by how much enthusiasm Magnus seems to have towards filming and the whole process of making a TH-cam video, I can already tell it's going to be difficult for him to outsource some of that work to other people. But I agree that IF he wants to keep growing his channel it's probably the right move to make.

    I can't even describe how awesome it is to see these two men, who both have been so influential for my passion for sports, just sit on a couch together and talk to each other about their sport. Both of these guys have been my idols during different parts of my life! The discussion around nutrition and body composition is especially relevant for both, trickers and climbers. When I started tricking in my early teens, I quickly stumbled upon TricksTutorials and I was soaking up all the information and guides by Jujimufu. Juji really helped me to ignite my spark towards tricking, which was a huge part of my life for nearly 10 years and he created such an influential community, which helped people to share information about this young sport. Now that my tricking days are over, the passion for rock climbing has pretty much guided my life for over a year now, in which Magnus and his educational and motivational content has played a huge part as well!
    I also found it funny to hear them talk about body composition and different muscular goals. When I was doing tricking, I wanted to get swole since I was pretty much a wet noodle back then, and now when I'm packing some good muscle mass and started devoting my life to rock climbing, I've also been trying to get rid of some weight. The philosophy of being comfortable with your body and focusing on good nutrition, sleep and hard training was really inspirational to hear from Magnus.
    Since this video conviniently has both of the important characters, who have done their part to shape me as an athlete who I am today, I want to sincerely thank you both for the work you have done towards your respective sports! Both of you guys have inspired many athletes with your hard work, educational content and wonderful personalities! Thank you!

    Nice to see Magnus talking about having a healthy relationship with food as a climber - it's definitely something he's alluded to in the past but was reluctant to elaborate on, can see why now

    4:45 Also...maybe rock climbing should have been my athletic pursuit when I was younger. I grew from 5'6 78lbs to 6'2 135lbs between end of middle school and Freshman year of high school. Before I started working out to fill out my frame I was always a string bean (and still am) with considerable strength to bodyweight. It's why at 14 I was already able to throw a 65 yard football and a 87mph fastball. With very long limbs, my back being my one genetic strong point (I pulled 310kg at 195lbs) maybe climbing should have been my athletic pursuit. I only wish when I was 15 youtube was a thing and inspirational people like Juji and Magnus were available to me.

    Great non-podcast! Really enjoyed it.
    Question; do you still keep up with tricking? Do you follow the "top dogs" and know about the new tricks being landed? Wondering because I've said good bye to serious tricking a long time ago but havent been able to kick the habbit of wanting to see all the coolest moves and samplers haha. It's so crazy to see how the sport is STILL evolving so rapidly and how the entire game seems to change every 3-5years.

    • @jujimufu
      @jujimufu  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A bit the opposite of you. I don't keep up with the tricking world at all anymore and haven't for a long time. But I still do some of the moves I like to do and keep an eye out for "low hanging fruit" type tricks I can still try to dabble in at my weight, age and with the wear and tear I have. I genuinely enjoy spending time with tricksters at gatherings though and would like to go to them more often just to hang out. Love that culture.

    20:17 Logging climbing with quantitative data instead of qualitative data makes sense compared to tricking, because it's all closed kinetic chain training, as completely opposed to tricking which is all open kinetic chain training. Technique in tricking - especially when compared to other disciplines - is extremely important, nay vital, to performance
