Hey everyone! Join me as I watch Ice Age The Meltdown for the first time today! This one was really emotional throughout the entire movie. Are there more mammoths out there? While the whole world melts around the gang.
With global warming threatening their once-icy domain with widespread flooding, Manny (Ray Romano), Sid (John Alberto Leguizamo) and Diego (Denis Leary) set out to find a safe haven. Along the way, another mammoth (Queen Latifah), who thinks she is an opossum, joins the travelers on their perilous quest.

Fun fact: Scientist found a skeleton of a pre-historic squirrel that looked a lot like Scrat. So they named the skeleton and the species, Scrat.

Fun Fact: the antagonists of this movie are named Maelstrom and Cretaceous, Maelstrom is the larger green one and is a Pliosaur while the other one, Cretaceous, is an Icythiosaur, and their designs do not match their real life appearance. The got different designs for artistic reasons however they were confirmed to be frozen for a million years and one reason that could be implied why they look different is that they may have evolved because in real life both species went extinct 90 million years before the ice age began

I can see how the Ichthyosaur evolved into Cretaceous, but I don't see how a Pliosaur evolved into Maelstrom. I can maybe see a Devonian Placoderm become Maelstrom, but not a Pliosaur
I thought that Cretaceous was a Metriorhynchus. A prehistoric marine Crocodilian.
As for the Piranhas, after doing some digging for memory. Because I seen that species of piranhas before but couldn’t recall the name. I can deduce that they are either the Megapiranha, a large prehistoric piranha that existed in the late Miocene (Approximately 8 to 10 million years ago). Or either Pygocentrus nattereri, the First Piranha, which went extinct over 2 million years ago.
ICE AGE 2 is a rather emotional movie to say the least . The most memorable scene for me was the flashback of Ellie‘s childhood

18:52. Just for a little context, if you remember the first movie, the paintings in the walls tell the story of a family of mammoths. Explaining that Manny lost his family. Many people think that Manny is the little mammoth who lost his parents but actually, the truth us that Manny was the dad in that story. That’s why we see him crying in pain while his wife and baby get crushed by rocks thanks to the humans.
That’s why he says his family is stopping him. He’s still in pain to go on

Scrat fighting off those piranha-like fish and the entire Mini Sloth sequence are the most memorable moments of Ice Age 2 in my opinion. The Mini Sloth song has catchy vibes too, that’s my jam!
No wonder it's popular on TikTok.
I remember here, on TH-cam, back in 2007, I found many videos of people doing the mini sloth dance. 😂Oh, good times.

When Sid sings “If your species will continue clap your hands” he’s the only one to clap. Coincidentally, out of the three of them, the sloth is the only one around today.
I like how they made Scrat a Kung Fu Master in this, that part is hilarious.

Weird for those people to assume that mammoths were extinct just because they haven't seen any. There's a whole other side of the world
Well they only had a limited scope in terms of exploration (surrounded by a glacier wall and all), they were clearly blocked off FROM exploring the rest of the world until the glacier opened up. So as far as they knew until then, to their knowledge, they were essentially extinct.
Obviously Mammoths weren't by then, but they didn't know that until it walked right in front of them en masse.
ICE AGE 3 is definitely my favourite out of all of them, as it introduces a comedic new character, so I can’t wait for you to react to it!

When he said his family, he was talking about what happened in the first movie with the cave painting that showed that mammoth family, that was his original family they were killed by humans, he failed to protect them.
Doesn't beat the first one for me. The first one was just more emotional and had more depth to it, but this one is nostalgic nonetheless.

Ice Age: In one scene, Manny, Sid, and Diego view a cave drawing of a family of mammoths, the female and offspring of which are killed by a group of humans. The drawing is revealed to be the loss of Manny's mate and son, and possibly explains why he is so isolated and withdrawn.
Manny and his first wife conceived a child, who was killed, along with its mother, by a tribe of humans on the hunt, that are resembles of the cavemen are like the neanderthals.
Fun fact: In this universe Scrat is the creator you will find out why if you watch the other movies
This is my favourite out of all the Ice Age films; namely because one of the pictures in the end credits is drawn by my elder sister when I was just a baby.

@@owellafehr5191 No they kept them in all movies, just evolved into the theme of the film in the later sequels(dinosaurs in the 3rd film, and the drawings with a computer background in the 5th film).

Still my favorite of the series. Lots of emotional moments in that one. Also, for the record, Ellie says 'You're the possum of my dreams' in the French version when Mannie confesses.
Yo, when my elementary school kids ask me those personal questions, like “Do you have any kids?”, they get this wild, unbelieving look on their faces when I say I don’t have any yet. 😂 But the funnier thing is when they enter, like, this “future-seeing” mode and say things, as they slowly turn and walk away from you, like “Someday…” 🤣

The ending, with the mammoths showing up, is my favorite scene in the entire franchise.
*Fun Fact:* the aquatic reptiles are Maelstrom the Pliosaur (green) and Cretaceous the Ichthyosaur (purple).

@@dinoboy6388 His scales are actually different shades of blue and green. I can see why you would think teal, though. Although, I would say he's more of a green teal instead of a blue teal due to being mostly green.
I just went by what the Wiki, and another source I don't remember, said. They went with the basic colors they are mostly: green and purple. Cretaceous, for example, is actually purple and blue, but because he's more purple, that's what they went with.

The vulture in the film is like the black hooded figure that stands in one corner that presents the current problem, solution and worst-case scenario. Like the God of Death.

I've watched you for a while now and I'm gonna subscribe for future reactions, I have to admit that soundtrack when the Mammoths appear is so majestic and one of my all time favourite scenes in the whole franchise because mammoths are beautiful animals and favourite speices from the Ice Age.
Actually Manny had seen another Mammoth. In the first movie he wasn't the baby mammoth. He was the father mammoth. He watched his wife and son be killed by humans which is why he is so reluctant to love Eli

In the Ice Age: The Meltdown (video game) you play as Scrat, so it's close enough to having his own movie or something.
You know it's kinda funny, back then when I first saw this movie, for years I had no idea that one of the possums was voiced by Josh Peck, from when I used to binge-watch Drake and Josh, and both I saw not too far apart from each other. I was a kid and just enjoying the movie and not really connecting the dots. XD

I’m overjoyed you’re reacting to Ice age and Rio, these were some of my all-time favorites and they’re very underappreciated imo! Also, the quote “you need to let go of your past so you can have a future” is so heavy I still can’t believe it came from an ice age film.
Everytime I watch an Ice Age sequel I always forget about the existence of the humans, it's hard to explain that, they kinda became obscure characters for me since they were never mentioned again, I just don't think they suit in this universe anymore.
That's one of the few things I don't like about the sequels, that they kinda pretended the humans weren't even there anymore...
And we never see the baby (Roshan) and his people return! Like what even happy to them??
My headcanon: it's an alternate reality where humans went extinct while in the real ice age thousands of years ago

As a musician I love the mini sloths part. The melody is quite easy, but some of the rhythmic parts are very fast and the accents are very powerful and that makes it great. Glorius Food is another one of my favorite parts and quite recently (in relation to when the movie came out) I learned that it's actually not an original song, but it's the opening song from the musical Oliver (a musical based on the Oliver Twist novel by Charles Dickens).

For scrat I don't think he was the cause of the Meltdown in this movie I think it just naturally happened because at the very start of the movie you can hear the ice is melting. I thought the same thing when I was younger

I really like this movie. I still like the first one more, but this one has so many emotional parts. I love it.
It's funny cause in the ice age 2 video game you play as Scrat pretty much the entire time. Sorta following the places the main group is going as well as the stuff we actually see him. I remember how much I loved and played that game as a kid.

The purple baddie is named Cretaceous. He’s a Metriorhynchus, a species of prehistoric marine crocodile from the Jurassic Period. The green one is named Maelstrom. He’s a type of mosasaur called Globidens.
I always love this sequel. It has so many quotable lines and most of all that food song! My mom and I always sing that time to time when we talk about really good food XD
