This tutorial shows how to set up an external graphics card on a laptop without taking it apart and without removing your Wi-Fi card from the mini PCI-E slot, also without using thunderbolt 3 port. This upgrade is usually for gaming purposes, graphics design, or movie making.
This approach addresses three of the common challenges of using desktop graphics cards externally with laptops.
1. First is odd of having to give up your wi-fi card mini PCIe slot in order to attach the eGPU cable.
2. Second is the issue of size, that’s the portability of the components required to implement this scheme, more specifically, the power adapters.
3. The third is, of course, the issue of cost.

My laptop is 11 years old. It's seen me through university, important milestones, and done projects professional and personal. It's gotten dropped, had water spilled on it, died several times, gotten fixed, upgraded, and now it's basically a low-level Frankenstein monster of a computer-- but I absolutely love it. It's outlived several of my friends' desktops and laptops, all of them newer, with them using them with less strenuous work. With your video, I hope to be able to keep it for much longer and play more games and edit more videos with it. Thank you for this!

If I want to use my laptop on the go, can I just unplug the eGPU and plug it in later with minimal setup?
Taking the plug out during use is risky. If you power off the computer and then take it out it should be fine, while unplugged there is no guarantee things will work properly but aside from some errors that might happen it should be safe. Computer should work fine again when plugged back in anyways. Once again I recommend powering off the PC before plugging the GPU back in.

@@beasthegreat640 the cables I've seen with the beast are for 34mm ports if that helps. Expresscard ports are either 34mm or 54mm. If you're not sure, measure the width of your port.

@@liammchugh9439 Nah, they're different. Express cards are "modular". You can plug a GPU, GPRS and USB 3.0 in it while an SD card slot is only for an SD card.
PLEASE HELP! My gpu wont turn on when i plug everything in while the laptop is on. However, it does turn on when the laptop is off and i turn it on while its plugged in, but the screen doesnt react properly and i get a colorful screen followed by a static screen.

Great video man, it's a really clean and straight foward tutorial and review for the EXP GDC. I already have experience using Exp GDC on my Thinkpad X220, it's a great choice for those who want the portability of a notebook but with the gaming power of a desktop. Right now i'm lookin for a way to improve the looks and portability of my Egpu setup, as i don't have yet a case for it not even the dell D220 power supply, but i'm going to solve that soon.

Imagine hooking one of those up to a battery pack and basically building your own gaming laptop, if only there was a way to power the whole thing with the laptops internal 12V rails
Would be cool, but using the internal rails would also drain battery insanly fast, so it probably wouldnt work very well.

Nice guide! I got one of these for an old HP notebook running a Turion CPU with probably a built in GPU. My goal is to install a fanless GT710 (or 720, not sure) nVidia GPU to get at least the heat out of the notebook. I think I'll probably get some performance improvement, also.

I have a GTX 980 ti Super Jetstream here. If that works i dont have to upgrade to a desktop PC.

Update: did work with beast Adapter pci Express to my Lenovo y50 with ngff (m.2) with the gtx gtx 980 ti. Similar FPS with i7-7700 Desktop.
But the gtx 980ti was broken so i sold it. Now i wait for a good used price/,Performance Card. Maybe gtx 1070/ti 1080/ti or higher

Rob Addinell I don’t use this method, nor do I have a 1050ti, but that’s the only problem I could think of. Make sure the dock is getting enough power.
More than likely a driver issue, a 1050ti isn't too power hungry and doesn't require an extra pcie plug I don't believe, try downloading an older driver from Nvidia like 368.xx where xx is the driver where support for the 1050ti is introduced, I don't have that information off hand. After you download that driver upgrade it to the new drivers manually

Clickbait. Why didn't you mention Expresscard in the name? Only Expresscard/54 will work, or you'd find different version of Expresscard/34 adapter. RTX 2080? Are you kidding??? No laptop with Expresscard could benefit from it, GTX 1050ti would be maximum.

After following your video I got stuck after I insert the expresscard to my laptop, Windows did not detect my graphics card in device manager..... So I restarted my laptop while the egpu is connected and what happened was my laptop won’t continue to windows and noticed my wifi indicator is blinking orange and blue... Also my screen is black, so I waited for a few seconds then it tries to restart it self but still won’t continue and my wifi indicator again blinking orange and blue.... So now I turned the power off my egpu then my laptop from black screen continues to windows... 🤔

my setup is not working for me, im using NEC versapro laptop, Geforce GTS 250. I used cardbus adaptor for the expresscard but it doesn't recognize or its not showing up in the device manager but shows 2 usb root hub. do you have any idea, how to solve it?, or should I replace my graphic card with a higher one?

i have a dell latitude e6540 laptop without the express card slot and i have found an express card converter as a better alternative to keep my wifi 6e card and just still use the express card and the 8 pin ac adapter and i say they still travel sized and muche better than the bulky power box🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They should make a thunderbolt, all the gpu box options are way too expensive

welp i dont think you need a external gpu if you have a quadro with 2GB of vram :D. you'll have to disable it and uninstall the drivers for then to the egpu to be seen by the pc as an display adapter but still you'll need to get drivers for it

i tried a older graphics card which i had on hand a GT 8800 because thats much better then intel Hd3000 and apon boot up the screen is gray and doesnt go anywhere.

this is only for laptops with EXPRESS CARD SLOT. Not all laptop has it. Do you have a video dedicated to laptops without express card slot?
